OK, got better photos. Looks like one of them at least is still intact! I guess we should sweep the other one, it probably was just mishandled and the coins are still on it.

Not only was it peeled just a little, you can tell is was peeled off almost completely.

Also, part of the pub address is missing with only the first four characters showing...   12CY
From what I can tell, the pkey was torn away from it as well.  So, even if it was one of the 12CY coins that haven't been redeemed, there is no chance to get to the bitcoin from the missing part of the label.

My guess is that it is:  12CYkmtUESk1cnPfHJNpa4MZzYXfqVsjB6
- Which was redeemed in 2014

So, if you bought it a couple of years ago, it was already next to worthless when you bought it.

What's the back of the other one look like?

Yeah. That's upsetting. I'll know for sure tomorrow, it might just be one of them. I got them around when they came out, and gave these two to my uncle in 2014 as a thank you for letting me stay in his apartment. They might have been compromised soon after I gave them to him, too. But I appreciate the help in this thread, thank you all.

Yeah I do see the honeycomb now. Thanks. Any reason not to sweep the funds off that one at this point? It does seem unwise to trust a compromised coin.

If the funds were still there and you weren't aware this coin was peeled prior, I would sweep them immediately since there is no reason to keep the funds on the coin.

In cases like this I would expect someone peeled, took a photo of the private key to import at a later time (replacing hologram quickly), and the funds are already gone.  Whether it was malicious or not I can't determine.
Well, if someone did it I would think it's malicious. Hopefully the other one is intact. Thank you. It does make things simpler this way! I'll update when I have more info / have swept if the coins haven't moved.

I don't think they've been peeled, are you sure? I don't actually know what they look like after peeling. I'll get a photo of the front of the other one.

Brass

Willing to ship. I was thinking that I would someone with a significant real-world reputation that I know and trust already for escrow, but I'm reading that the forum has an internal system? I'm trying to figure that out now.

Hi,

I gave my uncle a pair of Casascius coins a few years ago when he let me stay in his apartment, and now he's looking to sell them. NYC area. Anyone looking to buy or have experience transacting these and know where to look?

At least one appears to have been partially peeled. I'm waiting for photos of the other one, my apologies, I didn't know how it looks when I first posted.

Thanks!
-Michael
