1  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Power supply problem with my antminers U2+ and the usb hub?? on: April 16, 2014, 05:20:15 PM
Sorry I had forgot about that. I too am running off an RPi, and just a heads up: you're going to have a hard time finding a hub strong enough that isn't 3.0 to power all six. As a suggestion, get two hubs. I used this thread to help me out https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=253749.0 great info on all the community top rated hubs

The Anker 10 port 3.0 hubs are supposed to be pretty good. 12V 5A

Cooler than the old Asicminers .333 in my hubs, U1 and U2 temps about the same.
5v at 5a PAdapter obn each hub - 5 per hub  35 to 42C with large destop USB fan resting on the cluster of devices.
110 is nothin. Temps taken with a laser gun on wide scan.

Without a fan of some sort they get hotter, 50 to 60c or so. Not hot enuf to melt hub or anything, it just cuts down their lifetime runnin hot.

ALL U1 and U2 set at .0981 volts for 2ghz average on bitminter. I like to allow 1amp per stick, ( I like the margin ) everything overbuilt, not stressed.

Thanks for the quick response man. So would you say that even with a fan they are still to hot to handle without gloves/protection? I'm waiting on my fan to be delivered, and as it stands I cannot touch them for more than a second without burning myself. FYI I'm running 5 on a rosewill 10 port. 5v 4a should be plenty

Question: how hot are these supposed to run?
I test ran mine while I was in class, and they were hot enough to burn.
Running at 2Gh/s. I guess I just didn't know what to expect.

An AntMiner U2 requires 2.95W at 2Gh/s, per the Bitmain website. That means that you must account for .6A or so for each miner, and leave a little extra to keep the hub from burning out prematurely. Six miners are drawing 3.6A, not to mention whatever the fan is using, clearly putting you above max. I saw your ebay post and assume you're not in the U.S., but for what it's worth I am running five of these AntMiners on a Rosewill 10 port hub as well, but the 5V 4A version. http://bitcoinrigs.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/rosewell-10-port-usb-port-2.jpg Got it on Amazon. I also don't suggest you buy another psu and try running your hub with it: if the two are not rated for each other, you're probably going to short out/probably destroy your equipment/probably get shocked/probably start a fire. Good luck man
6  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Raspberry pi keyboard question.. on: April 12, 2014, 06:22:48 AM
Anyone ever have a problem typing in the raspberry pi? Mine is almost impossible to type on because keys seem to get "stuck"  for lack of a better term. I'll push a key and it'll just copy it a thousand times in the blink of an eye. And yes, i tried multiple keyboards.

Your power supply is inadequate. Either your keyboards are wireless and require >500ma from a 5V 1A power supply, or you are using wired keyboards (negligible power consumption for the most part, ~100ma) but the power supply barely meets requirements, i.e. 5V .7A, OR you are running a power hungry peripheral on the other USB port: wifi dongle, hard drive, etc. *I am assuming you have a model B board. Try running your USB devices on a powered hub, and/or buying a better micro usb power supply. Best of luck

Fast delivery, no issues here.
I was pleasantly surprised to see each miner packaged in it's own case.
Thanks man, I'm looking forward to doing business again

Please do not use icarus options at all with these as the only thing you're likely to do is make it worse. Those options are of zero utility with the antminer U*s.

New to mining. I am setting up a couple of these for the first time on a linux distro. Based on what you have said, does that mean I can skip enabling icarus? i.e. "./configure --enable-icarus"
No, you have to enable icarus for support to be compiled in. At runtime don't use any icarus options though.

Got it. Thanks boss

From my understanding after having read through other groupbuys & posts on this forum:
the U2+ is pre overclocked at 2Ghs by default, hardware is identical to the U2. I assume older batches (such as the ones for this preorder) are the original U2 and newer orders come "updated" as U2+.
It's a bit confusing when Bitmain themselves label them as U2+ on their website

Are these the new U2+ model (overclocked w/heatsink)?

They have a heatsink, but I think you have to overclock them yourself.

Are these the new U2+ model (overclocked w/heatsink)?

they have a bigger heatsink( and if im not wrong they change one some of the resisters as well)  then the U1's and over clocking them is the same as what you would do for the U1's as well
