1  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin 100: Developed Specifically for Non-Profits on: August 25, 2014, 06:38:19 PM
My goal is to make the organization's finances a lot more transparent.  Currently our annual report shows where your money is being invested, but my goal is to hopefully have a page on the site which visually demonstrates where funds received from donors go to, with each child touched by the funds identified as well.  Every board member and the Executive director in Toronto are all on a volunteer basis.  The only paid staff for the organization are people on the ground in Tanzania.

Thanks for the response. Now only if we could get a response from bitcoin100... Huh
2  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin 100: Developed Specifically for Non-Profits on: August 25, 2014, 03:52:16 PM
Hi,

I'm currently a board member for http://www.ac-af.com.  I have been trying to get in touch with Bitcoin100 for a few weeks now.

AC-AF is a non-profit with offices in Toronto and Tanzania, with people on the ground in Africa helping kids impacted by HIV/AIDS.  I recently convinced the rest of the board to allow me to integrate Bitcoin onto our site as a donation method.  I understand that Bitcoin100 provides grants of $1000 for non-profits - would we qualify for such a grant?

It was extremely difficult to get the board to understand how beneficial accepting Bitcoins as a form of donations, since most were only aware of what they saw on the news regarding the risks and its association with illegal activities.  I'm hoping that accepting Bitcoins as donations is only a first step.  It is very hard for us to send funds from Toronto to Tanzania (Africa) given the process and the fees involved.  I plan on having this organization send funds back and fourth using Bitcoins to pay for local programs, rent, salaries and grants in Africa once I can establish a credible conversion method on the ground in Tanzania.

The Bitcoin100 grant will go a long way for us as we are in the midst of new management at the organization with a new incoming Executive Director and fairly new and forward thinking board of directors.

Unfortunately we have received 0 bitcoin donations to date, but I am certain this will change in the future.

Our donation page is located at http://www.ac-af.com/blog/bitcoin
Our donation address is 14zrnfv5n6Ad2WAgvCojk1GK4txkCzre25

I just donated for the first time to bitcoin100.org without giving it much thought... I hope that my money gets to people like you. Is there anyway I can know where my donation goes to? Or rather be reassured that the money I donated its being put to good use?

And please add to the FAQ that you will constantly notify the client before closing the account.

That's a good idea...

+1 here. I'm much more comfortable with the two weeks and the 18 months policy as long as I am notified in advance that my account is about to be deleted if I don't do something.

I could definitely see myself not touching a saving account for over 1.5 years.

Btw, great work flexcoin and thank you for answering everyone's questions here. That is part of the reason I decided to give flexcoin a try. Just please don't pull a 'mybitcoin' on me. Smiley

11  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin.org Redesign (mockups inside) on: March 31, 2011, 07:32:29 AM
... but I would like to open up discussion of content.  I'd like to see the bitcoin.org home page to be less about bitcoin-the-software and more about bitcoin-the-currency.

You don't have to download and run any software to run bitcoin, and I think most non-technies are better off using an online wallet service rather than running bitcoin.exe.  So I'd like to see the DOWNLOAD/HOWTO sections moved to a separate page, and have the home page have links to there and to a Wiki page that lists the online wallet services (and starts with a little discussion of the tradeoffs of using an online wallet provider instead of running bitcoin yourself).

It sounds to me that the home page should look something like this: http://www.weusecoins.com/

How is WeUseCoins different than how the intended bitcoin.org homepage will look/behave? It seems to me that what separates bitcoin.org from WeUseCoins is that bitcoin.org is the place to discuss bitcoin stuff with the community (wiki/forum/IRC) and also to download the program. So if those two things are on secondary pages.... i think you can really just copy what WeUseCoins did for the homepage if that's the goal. It's simple, looks professional and easy to understand. (And the video is awesome!)

First of all, all of the designs (with all respect for their makers) are only better than average.

Thank you!.. i'll take better than average Smiley
I am a full time designer/drupal themer and I made the designs in this thread over night (the chance to help bitcoiners was irresistible). So, If anyone wants me to elaborate on my current designs, or go a completely new direction-- I am definitely willing if paid.

I would still get rid of the blue.
I agree. If you're keen on trying it with the pixelated backdrop, try a light gray that meshes with the scheme, but it might be best if it was removed entirely if it can't be worked with.

Yeah the main idea for the pixelation block stuff was for the idea of bitcoiners trying to find blocks, and also to maintain something from the original design Smiley

I will try graying out the blocks later... I have to head out to run some errands.

Does it work without horizontal scrolling with 1024x768?

Yes, It appears wider because I wanted to show what it would look like on slightly larger screens.
The container width on the site will be 960px which fits nicely in 1024 width.

Here is my design with not so bright blue... I also made the menu slightly larger and gave it a drop shadow. Therefore, the menu and the main content are a little closer and it cut down on the negative space a little. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1791401/bitcoin-layout2.png

I've also attached a new design where the menu is attached to the main content. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1791401/bitcoin-layout3.png

They are called Drupal Themes. I actually design and develop them for a living Smiley

I went ahead and made a "polished" mockup that I was envisioning for bitcoin.org. I also tried to include a lot of the suggestions made in this thread.

If people like, I would be happy to make this a theme and post it on Drupal.org.
