Writing this from an x64 linux system on Opera 12.15. The link you provided works. however if I view source on this forum page, and try the following links I get "404 Not Found nginx" errors.

IIRC this issue has been occurring for at least three-four months. I tried disabling javascript on both Opera and Internet 'sploder on a Windows XP machine to no avail. Any other troubleshooting suggestions?

Interestingly this issue occurs with Opera 12.15 on multiple operating systems, as well as IE 8 on windows XP. It does not occur when using Firefox on both Windows and Linux however.

After I log into bitcoin talk all the image links are broken, like this:

This happens with several different browsers.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Excessive disk usage during block chain download on: May 27, 2013, 11:09:37 PM
I think I may have stumbled across a solution to this problem, disable barrier writes on ext4 for the first blockchain sync

It involves remounting the filesystem like so sudo mount -o remount, nobarrier /

For those using btrfs filesystem, disabling CoW (Copy on Write) for the .bitcoin folder might also help alleviate this problem.

I have the same issue when trying to sync the blockchain after a fresh installation. The disk usage is so intense it makes the system unusable and literally takes days, sometimes a full week to finish. And this is on a system with an SSD!!

This is a serious issue that is going to drive away new non-technical users. I will try the ramdisk work around in the mean time.
8  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: TradeHill - suspension of US wire deposits / withdrawals on: January 08, 2012, 10:23:47 PM
There seems to be an unspoken assumption on this thread that banks won't be failing left and right themselves and therefore struggling to retain customer confidence.

Who is to say the reverse won't happen.  A collapse in the fiat currency banking system that precipitates a flight of wealth into the relative safety and stability of the bitcoin network?

It seems to me that many of these arguments assume that banks won't be failing themselves and struggling to retain customer confidence.

Who is to say the reverse won't happen, a flight from fiat currency banks into the relative safety and stability of the bitcoin network?

I don't understand why he would want btc exchanges to comply with ridiculous "know grope your customer" rules.

There.  The Newspeak grammar police have "regulated" your post.   Wink

Another vote for TapaTalk capability.   Can we get a tipjar or collection going for this?

The bigger and more established a business and/or trade name is, the more painful it usually is to change.

If the above premise is true, and the coinpal name is more or less guaranteed to draw legal fire from Paypal down the road, it would stand to reason that the earlier a name change "course correction" is made, the better.

Just installed added the launchpad repository to my 10.10 Ubuntu Maverick install and had the bitcoin-minerd package installed and generating in under 10 minutes.

Thanks for putting this together tuxsoul, you're making it much easier for people to get involved with bitcoin.

It's nice to see someone step up and run an experiment like this.  Regardless of whether or not it ultimately succeeds, I believe it will provide valuable information.   Others will be able to learn from the inevitable bureaucratic and fraudster attacks.

It will also be very interesting to see what if any legal precedents are set with regards to paypal-to-bitcoin businesses meeting the legal definition of a money handling service.   Will bitcoin be classified as "money" or "currency" or whatever the feds need to call it so they now have an excuse neuter the threat with regulation?
