Hi dope crew, here how-to compile/update dope-wallet on Ubuntu/Debian and a workaround for a little bug (at own risk, dont forget backup wallet.dat before). In a terminal. sudo apt-get install git build-essential qt4-qmake libqt4-dev libboost-dev libboost-system-dev libboost-filesystem-dev libboost-program-options-dev libboost-thread-dev libssl-dev libdb5.1++-dev libminiupnpc-dev libqrencode-dev git clone https://github.com/dopecoin-dev/DopeCoinV3.git git clone https://github.com/philosopherstonecoin/philosopherstone.git cp philosopherstone/src/leveldb/Makefile DopeCoinV3/src/leveldb/ chmod +x DopeCoinV3/src/leveldb/build_detect_platform Official bootstrap file (on first post) works, extract its content to ".DopecoinV3" in your home folder. Cheers

You may know issues on mining, according to your one paper, these satellites generate 18.5 W of electricity, also cooling is a big issue without water & air outside the atmosphere.
Whatever the benefit beside geekness will be, looks like only proof of stake can run fully independent in space.

100 nodes 10x100 = 1 kWh/h 90*1 = 90 w/hr 1.09 kWh/hr with 100 nodes
Then PHS is around 9.5 Megawatthours per year? Enough to be proud, data of POWs in same scale would be interesting, maybe this energy can be made out of trees ...when you compare it to physical currency creation,... Compare 1.6 Terrawatthours (math) or double >3.2 TWh (experience), i dont know many physical processes near that, seems close to a nuclear powerplant or developing country. Satoshi took electricity like gold, a rare resource, was he aware of upcoming years too? Large amounts of energy produced clean, cheap and everywhere by solar, fusion or whatever. Numbers given by science drawing a scenery where competition on energy is less relevant, and so POW can be. Hard to predict timescales or truth, what always stays relevant is a functional planet of course.

sorrros, thanks for clearing, all our calculations as on reddit came to the same result, 1.6 Terrawatthours per year. >1 J per GH/s may more reality, think on old mining hardware, mining bots, badly configured software, free/cheap energy some use on their workplaces, etc. Other carbon wasting systems like cars can be fixed, mining is competitive by design, sorry BTC and many alts, your energy consumption looks broken. Just for understanding, Antminers data on power consumption should be 590 Ws, not Watt as they wrote? Welcome therealbigcoin PHS runs near 2 years, history thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=263744.0Edit: Some more history, the artwork of DKdance (his talent is missing here): http://imgur.com/a/NKmOd/

Nice to see commits on the dev-branch, looking forward for an updated wallet soon, POS is the cleanest tech to invest, thank you guys.

Here is part of my calc on BTC at time of March 2015, maybe expert people do more research into this, from my perspective need of fully POS coins is given by math. I updated current Bitcoin electric energy consumption, calculated like here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2hlwpy/5_terrawatt_per_hour_bitcoin_network/cktv3xl
BTC global hashrate: 360.000.000 Megahash/Second
Source: https://blockchain.info/charts/hash-rate
Current mining efficiency: Optimistic: 0.51 Wh per Gigahash/s
Source: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=902305.0
Consumption of the network per year: (360 000 000 / 1000) * 0.51 = 183 600 kWh per hour
183 600 x 24 x 365 = 1 608 336 000 kWh p.a. = 1.6 Terrawatthours per year Please correct some numbers you know better, even if 10% is real, too much carbon is burning in this moment, possible >1,6 million tons of coal a year, by a software with only 3 billions market cap, what else can go wrong?

The concept of POS is great, the Dope-wallet works good enough, but it feels a few fixes are needed to improve just the performance. I myself cant code, so maybe we collect a fund for improvements, i also recommend another coder for some help, Palmdetroit who is working on Philosopherstone, he is experienced in POS and has a Message in his Signature: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=840951.0I do not wanna blame devs here in competence, as said i like your work and Dope, just more eyes see more. Thanks for the suggestion MXN. I'll see more about Philosopherstone for sure and see what we can do. Thanks being open for a try :-) Palmdetroit wrote he can have a first look on the wallet the upcoming days, maybe some improvements can be found. I am waiting to recieve a wallet-adress, so anyone will be free to donate for help on the code later on. Saw a note of PPC, is it where the fork came from?

Allright, looking forward for some details improved in the future. I would like to mention Vericoin & Philosopherstone for inspiration, both with nice POS code. And for those who didnt saw already, this is the "result" of POW-Mining, a new-rich snob and his poor workers burning as much carbon they can: http://youtu.be/K8kua5B5K3ITo go green as smokers are, POS is the way, thanks for running this coin.

Hi,
i am buying in some coins, because cannabis culture needs support, the POS seems less waste of electricity (better use it for growing) and your claim "freedom is not enough" is simply great.
I just wonder if staking could enlarge the size of the wallet.dat file (why?) and i also was not able to send the complete fund of my wallet, after divide it in three transaction it works.
Cheers

The presence of silence does not imply the absence of drama.
So what happened to palm, more than a month without a sign of life?
Sure, his code made still one of the best POS-Wallets, but meanwhile others create more features.

Great to see the explorer working, thanks to all donators & creators...
But it raises some questions:
- Why the richlists number #1 address (scary >6%) can not show up in more detail?
That could be an exchange wallet, most likely Cryptsy. Unicks block explorers won't show all the transactions if there are too many, its a drain on the servers resources. He has made this public before.
- Why took it longer than 2 weeks for collecting 2k for the explorer while a few addresses are simply joking on such amounts?
During the time we were collecting the bounty, Cryptsy was losing coins on withdrawals. So it was hard for people to contribute. I know alot of people wanted too, but didn't want to risk cryptsy sending their PHS into the abyss.
- Why big holders think a coin can grow just by watching little ants doing all work without proper funding?
Most people want something for nothing. they are not willing to spend the money to help the coin grow
- Why beside me (= not rich at this time) nearly none of you did donations for development?
I can only speak for myself, I spent 750 PHS to make the richlist/block explorer happen. I also suggest a few ideas to Palmdetriot to help add value to PHS.
- Why are crypto investors so extra silent and lacy, just compare it ie. to the venture-scene?
Most are just children with no clue as to what they are doing. Barrier of entry to the altcoin game is next to none. Expect children and uneducated investors to make up the core of the altcoin scene
Ok, these are issues relating to all altcoins, now they are visible at PHS too...
For PHS i can only suggest: all owners with more than 1% of the supply donate asap to a verified dev address, as much you never did before, otherwise this stays as a cheap game like all altcoins do.
I know, my communication is sometimes far from optimum, but without aiming critical points, progress can not happening - peace.
Thanks for your answers, mostly reasonable. In case of PHS there is just one exchange, i am still not happy with the diversity, but it can be worst. I did expect a lot of kids or clueless people too, but also more economical thinking, it is bizarre some of these projects jump to market caps serious workers can only dream of. At least i judge mining and minting not able for issuing higher value, thats why i work on the idea of "Koin", even Bitcoin is trapped at this point and will do hard rising out of its niche (still beta software). Lets see how it goes on, at a first step increasing donations to dev addresses or projects like the explorer are the easiest and only way upward.

For me issues where solved after update, i try to help sending cryptsy into history anyway: https://www.mintpal.com/voting#PHSThe PHS wallet itself is good, biggest concern is more on the motivation by us all, since support by miners could be lower now. I have my limits too, but like to see a coin rising without waste of computing power and only PHS seems old enough.
