So there's no button that calculates the gas fee and then indicates and lets you swap the rest of what's in your account?
Not as far as I know, no
I dont get charged for these "insufficient funds" attempts I assume.
You lose all ETH you spent on gas if your transaction fails because you run out of gas (your limit was too low).
So I tried a small exchange first of $300 first and the gas fee was $45 or so
You're suggesting I leave room for another 45 and perhaps 75%
That was just a suggestion, yes. So you want to spend $300-($45x2)=$210 on ETH. So you could google "210USD in ETH" which is approximately 0.12 ETH.
Do most folks keep enough stored in uniswap where they don't have to figure out exact amounts for these transactions?
I'm not sure what most people are doing in this time of high gas prices. I understand you're doing a small transaction to test, but I imagine if you're using UniSwap you want to be exchanging a lot of $$ or the fees will absolutely kill you and doing it simply to hold
What a horrible time to suck at math.
Never a good time to suck at math

With all this said, it maybe easier for you to use the "SWAP" feature of Metamask. Click it and enter an ETH value then type ALBT into the token field and click Get Quote and watch what Metamask does. Though you'll pay a Metamask premium as well.
Many thanks to all who responded. I'm trying to not abuse your good will and expertise.
Last 2 questions.
To confirm, I not only lose the gas fee when I confirm a transaction and it fails, but also when I try one and it comes back "insufficient funds"?
If I smell my neurons burning because of frustration and want to temporarily abort the altcoin transaction what happens to the balance I see in Uniswap? Can it be sent back to coinbase with a fee, to metamask, etc? For safety purposes..?
More thanks thank you know.
