1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: March 05, 2016, 08:48:13 PM
I think ETH can make to 0.1 in this year.

I'm starting to think it can make here this month.  Cheesy

Ethereum is nearing critical mass. It has broken the $12 barrier several times today and is nearing the psychological $1,000,000,000 capitalisation threshold. Bitcoin is now only 6 times greater in capitalisation, and 3 times greater in the volume of traffic.

#   Name           Market Cap           Price           Available Supply   Volume (24h)   % Change (24h
1    Bitcoin    $ 6,135,615,371    $ 401.47    15,282,950 BTC    $ 139,534,000    -3.81 %
2    Ethereum    $ 930,945,932    $ 12.01    77,534,245 ETH    $ 55,532,500    25.08 %

The other altcoins are trailing far behind.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: March 05, 2016, 07:45:00 AM
I am wondering if Bitcoin gradually ceases to be relevant…

You'll stop wondering when Etherium bubble pops.

Its not a bubble, its a computer

and Bitcoin is a calculator
Computers are hackable. Calculators aren't.
Bitcoin is money. Ethers aren't.
Ethereum never wanted to be money

With respect, Ethereum doesn't want things, just as a blockchain doesn't want things. Ethereum can function in many ways and its users decide upon how they want to use it. Utilisation as a currency is one such use. Ethereum has a unitary value and can be traded for things just like money. When POS comes in, holders of Ethereum will be rewarded with units of value (interest) i.e. currency (money).

Money is stored up energy. So too is fuel. Ether is the crypto-fuel of the Ethereum network. It was designed to be used as money e.g. it is used to pay the members of the network for the resources they consume (mining). This payment aspect confirms that one of Ethereum's 'wanted' uses is to function as money and it was a 'wanted' design feature that it could function in such a way.

Granted, Ethereum is capable of much more, but to function as money is one of Ethereum's intended design capabilities. I know other competing cryptos would like to obscure its use as money, but Ethereum is used as money. Further, it is listed as a currency on the Crypto-Currency Market Capitalizations' website and is second only to Bitcoin in its valuation as a currency.

i cant get enough of this, lol cheers for filling my orders and ive set a few more traps....remember this...ETH could go down in price but whoever dumps large amounts, you will not get your coins back cheaper  Tongue
With so much happening with ETH tech wise and the behind the scenes major development  Wink , ETH will be $10+ within 3-6months, imo ETH will be number 2, worth over a $billion cap and if btc keeps fkn up we could see the unthinkable...ETH becomes #1
In this coin for the long term, accumulate as much as you can, sit back and relax  Smiley

https://forum.bitcoin.com/bitcoin-discussion/segwit-forked-unexpectedly-on-testnet-t6111.html   oops,lol but dont worry, they say,lol

Is this the begining of the end of BTC?
Is this when ETH grows up and becomes the son that replaces his father business because hes now old and tired, Tongue

I don't think ETH will hurt BTC.
Marketcap may/will grow bigger but they can exist next to each other and BTC could grow because of the succes of ETH and FCT.

I think the way Bitcoin is going will mean it will eventually slip into the hands of the banks and large corporations who will eventually be the only ones capable of harnessing the immense computer power to keep it going.

I welcome the recent developments with Ethereum which will have a major impact. I don't think the news of the quantum leap that Ethereum has made has filtered through into the mainstream consciousness yet.

I still think $100 is on the cards sooner than later when I expect there will be a shakedown in the altcoinworld and in the global economy. By the way, Ethereum has broken through the $10 barrier again today.

On today's figures, if Ethereum hits $81 it would displace Bitcoin as #1. Now that really would be an earth-shaking event.

Current Coin Market Caps

Bitcoin: ...... $ 6,235,284,118
Ethereum: ....  $ 802,307,368

No other altcoins come close.

Other POS coins are issuing similar advice. I wonder whether Internet Service Providers are now clamping down more on extended download use, such as wallet syncing, by switching the service off every now and then. I have mentioned this possibility before. I've been recently experiencing intermittent service problems with TalkTalk.

Zeit Syncing Tips for PoS

Keep your Wallet Locked when you are not Synced with the network if you have coins in your wallet.

The Green Check mark will appear a few minutes before synced , but may not be completely synced yet,
Move the mouse over the Green Check mark , and it will show
Last Received Block was Generated (Time) ago.
When it says 1 minute or less , then it is a good time to unlock the wallet and let it stake.
If it says 5 minutes and you check it again a few minutes later and says 15 minutes, then close and restart your wallet, and it will sync quickly.

...

FYI:
If your ISP has issues, it can cause you to fall out of sync with the current block # and a restart of the wallet may be required.

Great advice. Don't just go by the jolly green tick (some call it a check mark). It will still show a glowing green if your Internet service has been interrupted and you could be well-behind. Always check that your wallet is actually up-to-date before opening your wallet for staking by hovering your mouse over the green tick.

It feels better to me to buy them.

I should imagine it does. The price has just jumped up to a new high - into the 530 litoshi zone.  Wink

Be prepared for some selling though. If Zeitcoins remain stranded on Cryptsy for an extended period of time, that will be the only way to get them out. Cryptsy, pull your finger out!

Cryptsy wallet has stopped working at block 1443740 (1448523).

Craptsy wallet still in maintenance, my coins still stuck, despite 14175 confirmations as for now.

I fully synced up my wallet earlier today and as usual there were no hitches. I don't know what the problem is with Cryptsy. For their wallet to be locked in maintenance mode for 4 days is inexcusable.

No, you have to use those 3 free votes on 3 different coins.

The only way to get to the top is to give them money.

I'm still against that and will not be playing.

Thanks for the clarification. I've only just caught up with what's been happening in the thread.

I agree. Paying for votes is definitely out. It's like cash for Questions (House of Commons). How can any agency take a coin seriously that has to to stoop to paying for votes to fake interest? Others obviously have paid. Our pages speak for themselves. Let's hope others read them to see where we are at.

Vote for Zeitcoin to be added at Coinomat.com https://coinomat.com/coinvoting.php
Coinomat.com offers bank transfers, withdrawals to Visa/Master card, and custom debit card for all the cryptocurrencies on its platform.
On top of that instant exchanges to all supported cryptocurrencies and e-currencies are available.
Crypto to Fiat liquidity can provide a significant boost to Zeitcoin.
more program details here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1053407

Thanks, voted!!

Cheers

Voted.
Each person gets 3 free votes, but I think that you have to use them on separate days. At the moment we are in 6th position out of 66 altcoins - ahead of other coinmarketcap top-pagers like ourseves such as: Dogecoin; Ripple; my old friend Quarkcoin; our old friend Mintcoin; Primecoin; Bytecoin; Zetacoin; Maxcoin; Startcoin; Stellar etc.
Even if we just maintain a Top10 position it might attract the attention that we need for people to check us out  Wink
Check coinomat out: https://coinomat.com/coinvoting.php ... and see why it could be a quantum leap for Zeitcoin.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - High Fast Stake - Version 1.5. Come on in the water's fine! on: April 24, 2015, 03:16:41 AM
Put a commit on github today.
https://github.com/Tranz5/HoboNickels/commit/f46fa0c32d33ffd6194cc5f2c994a2d62081a7d4
Code:
 Update split/combine threshold
Up the max to 100/200 as startup, and added rpc commands, which allow
the default max, or wallet balance divided by 250

I am going to look at a few of the bugs with s4c, and see if I can get those fixed up. If I can do that in a reasonable timeframe. I'll officially release 1.5.1.0. If not I'll compile this small change and release 1.5.0.1

Really great. Thanks a million. As for bugs with S4C, I haven't noticed any lately. Only when I had the huge blocks the automatic selection of with block to send the S4C from wasn't perfect but no one has big blocks anymore since the max stake reward was introduced.

But thanks again, the splitthreshold dependency on wallet size really works well with bottlecaps and I am looking forward using it with HBN as well!

I haven't noticed any bugs either and my latest POS minting, earlier today, worked like a dream ... pop ... pop ... pop, one after another. I've experimented with large and small block sizes, and large and small numbers of blocks. If the weight is there, POS interest happens fairly quickly. On large block sizes e.g. <7,000, I wait a day over maturation (10 days + 1). On smaller blocks (200-500), three to five days over maturation. That seems to work well for me. However, when there are a very large number of blocks, full POS minting can be spread over the best part of a full day. Interestingly, smaller blocks (e.g. 250) can sometimes be quicker to mint than larger blocks (e.g. 500), even though the larger blocks were established slightly earlier than the smaller blocks.

It's great to hear about moves to improve what is already, in my opinion, one of the best coins available. I I know most are interested in just minting the POS interest at the moment, but looking to the future, I'm wondering how Hobonickels could be used in the real world as a form of barter. Perhaps there are practical things each one of us could do such as spreading the word to communities and groups who could benefit by using HBN. At some point we should do some brainstorming and maybe form an informal group to look at marketing the use of Hobonickels.

That's a spliffing idea, Mr B Grin

As there are at least 3 UK based knights (me, thee & Varvarin) why don't we go for it?

We can discuss it at Sundays' Knight-session.

Between technical issues at my end (caused, I think by the 'soundboard' plugin, now disabled) an urgent dog walk, the unexpected arrival of a friend from out of town and a sort-of general Sunday night apathy it was the least productive session so far Sad

Hoping for MUCH better next time!

LMFAO!

"We apologise for the brief intercourse, we've had a testicle itch"

The TeamSpeak seemed to be working when I arrived. Lion was the only one there. I fully understand why he didn't wish to speak. He had to attend to his itchy testicles. Oh, and an urgent impulse to take his dog for a walk. Very commendable. Lion, please don't take it as a personal insult if I don't respond to future invitations to participate in your TeamSpeak sessions.

Zeit Research
Raffles

After a little more research, it turns out in the United Slaves of America,
it is illegal to host a raffle unless you are a Non-Profit organization or Church or
on Native American tribal land.

So do we have anyone in any countries or on tribal land that is unaffected by these ridiculous laws that could host the raffle if everything else checked out.

 Cool

Edit: After even more research raffles would be out unless we have someone not restricted to host it.

It would seem that the Zeitknights fulfill the criteria of being a club, or non-profit organisation. They have a Constitution. A notion of what they can, or cannot do, even if it is at a rudimentary level. They have stated the membership requirements and hold regular meetings. All they need to do now is elect a Chairperson, a Secretary and a Treasurer to be formally constituted.

In the UK, and I would think other countries too, it would be easy to get a bank account in the Zeitknight name having satisfied these essentials. If a bank account is applied for, I would suggest any two signatories out of three trusted elected members of the Zeitknight fraternity to be the case. This might be a problem if the signatories live far apart from one-another. However, electronic signatures that could be attached to documents via email, might be lawful. I'm not sure how the law stands on this, but in the UK I know that email service of actions through the Courts are lawful.

The Zeitknights could easily assume the status of an artificial personality, a legal entity in the eyes of the law, just as business companies and other organisations do.

Therefore, if the Zeitknights are a non-profit organisation, then holding a raffle should be no problem.

In the UK, the minimum legal requirement to form a company is two, so the Zeitknights in the UK are already there. I'm not actually a Zeitknight, but I will pop in at the Sunday session anyway, assuming that I can get my head around TeamViewer and anything else that might need to be done.  It will be interesting to meet and speak with other Zeitcoinistas from around the world, in a different scenario from the usual words printed on a screen.

I'd like to see a little less speculation and more consolidation.

As Ray has suggested, let's make use of our coinpayments.net listing to buy and sell in Zeitcoins;
look at casheer.net to see if we can get listed for mobile payments https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=487814.12480

Specifically, how could we encourage use? I'm talking about use within communities like the Bristol £ http://bristolpound.org/

Zeitcoin could be used to 'tip' artists and musicians on the Internet. Maybe we need to reach out to encourage them to accept Zeitcoins. From those little acorns, payment systems for services could grow.

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] MANDATORY UPDATE ██ ZEITCOIN MOVEMENT [FULLY POS] ██ on: February 18, 2015, 07:44:52 PM
I read this in the Cointelegraph the other day about the Bitcoin core update:-

“Bitcoin Core now uses ‘headers-first synchronization’. This means that we first ask peers for block headers (a total of 27 megabytes, as of December 2014) and validate those. In a second stage, when the headers have been discovered, we download the blocks. However, as we already know about the whole chain in advance, the blocks can be downloaded in parallel from all available peers.”
http://cointelegraph.com/news/113498/daily-digest-bter-hacked-bitcoin-core-updated - (3rd article down).

Parallel block downloading - is that something we could use? How could it be done since syncing is a serial process ... isn't it?

This is pretty interesting, blockchain download will be much faster using BitTorrent technology.
Parallel block downloading: could this be Zeitcoin's Manhattan Project? The other side have got it. The first altcoin to get it will be the new Litecoin.

Besides possibly the Bitcoin developers, in my humble opinion, Tranz at Hobonickels and Ray at Zeitcoin are two of the most dedicated and talented developers around. Ray, like Tranz, admits to his limitations, but still comes up with cutting edge solutions, not only for Zeitcoin, but for other coins too. We are very lucky to have him. Sometimes I think that we put too much weight on his shoulders, even though he grows from strength to strength as time goes by. In our ranks we may have/still have other capable developers (Fa San?), who could combine with Ray on this. Should we slap a Top Secret notice on this for the Knights to take up and develop internally?

May I also suggest non-staking Android wallets?  Wink Regardless, I like the way Zeitcoin is progressing.

Your words are universally recognised in the legal profession as pre-action protocol. Cryptsy should start getting some qualified legal advice as to exactly what that means if a court finds against them.  Wink

PM Mullick (cryptsy tech that popped in the forum a few days ago)
No reply ,so he is acting like cryptsy support.  Tongue

No reply , so that only leaves me Speculation.
Mullick, don't say I didn't warn you.

So until the zeit wallet is working, I shall only refer to them as craptsy, because their zeit wallet has been offline since Dec 18, 2014. On Feb 18th, that will be 2 months as least allcrypt closed their trading while they try and recover their zeit.
Craptsy now has 39 wallets offline for whatever excuse they want to use, one for over 6 months and it's trading is even still running.

By Craptsy allowing trading to occur when they have been unable to allow the buyer to receive his zeitcoins, is basically Fraud (a deception deliberately practiced in order to secure unfair or unlawful gain) , they are receiving commissions for an item that they are not allowing the buyer to receive.
Once regulations are in place for exchanges , the 1st one should be , IF the exchange is unable to deliver a cryptocoin within 1 week of request to receive it, they must stop all trading of that cryptocoin until they fullfill said requests.
For Craptsy that is currently 39 different coins, that they are perpetrating fraud by not allowing their coins to be received by the buyer.

@craptsy, if you keep wasting time by not getting the wallets working, how long do you think before some lawyer files a class action suit against you for failure to deliver their coins.
No matter how you argue about price , you are denying people of their property that they paid you for (price of coin will not matter), simple theft in other words , you have no position to stand on.
Serious quit the BS, and get the wallets working before 39 or more coin community join together and point out what you are really doing to the world. People won't use an exchange they know steals from their clients.

 Cool

Well said Kiklo. This has gone on far too long. We should stop pussy-footing about. Zeitcoin holders are losing POS interest on coins stranded on Cryptsy. If Cryptsy are minting POS interest from Zeitcoins held on their site, then that could be viewed as theft since that interest technically belongs to the deprived owners of the coins. I like your idea of contacting all affected altcoin holders to act together in unison on this.

There is a financial regulatory body in place in the United States whose remit includes agencies dealing with virtual currencies. It is the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). They are empowered by the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.

Complaints against Cryptsy can be filed online: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] MANDATORY UPDATE ██ ZEITCOIN MOVEMENT [FULLY POS] ██ on: January 17, 2015, 02:32:50 AM

.. dropping to 5% would have some positive effects, the value of your zeitcoins would rise faster as the exchanges will not be loaded with people selling their stake keeping the price per zeit lower. Plus it requires you to own more zeit to be able to stake the same amount and weakens any whales out there. Don't forget we got 1 whale with 4 billion coins at the moment.

 Cool

Would like to recommend that everyone begin spreading their coins so they stake more times per day, as this will have a effect of strengthening our network without making any code changes.

 Cool

I agree in principle with both of your ideas here for the reasons that you give.
  • Dropping the percentage ahead of schedule, at the right time.
  • Network security - one way to achieve your goal of strengthening the network in the way that you suggest is to set a maximum amount of POS interest that could be minted by a single coin block - just like HoboNickels do. For example, any block above 5 million Zeit would not be able to mint any more interest than could be generated by 5 million Zeit, or whatever maximum figure might be decided in the future.

Mmmmm ... I would respectfully beg to differ, but will leave it to the Knights to decide. In my opinion, simply dropping to 5% in the immediate future would be premature ... and will still leave potential security holes, but these are issues most POS coins need to address.
