1  Other / Meta / Re: Two ways of develop the forum! The time has come to decide the fate of the forum on: December 03, 2023, 07:37:19 PM
In connection with recent events, I propose to hold a vote and determine the fate of the bitcointalk forum

First way. Going offshore like PirateBay (offshore hosting). And no government restrictions will be scary. You are all can do whatever you want. Absolute freedom, almost decentralization, development and innovations, a successful platform for promising projects

Second way. Do nothing. Remain in current jurisdiction. Complying with all orders from the authorities. Gradually introducing KYC and bans of everything related to casinos, gamblings, exchangings, faucets etc. Nothing can be done except worship and write praise for the DT-system. Absolute totalitarianism, complete centralization, corruption and degradation

Third way.   Replace the administrator with one who does not support theft and corruption.

You mean theymos supports theft and corruption! Can you logically justify this claim of yours?

🔄 CoinJoin Technology
CoinJoin breaks the heuristics used by chain analysis experts & companies and obscure ownership of specific pieces of Crypto. CoinJoin is distinct from mixing services in that CoinJoin technology  operators never take custody of any funds.
Explain how CoinJoin is implemented by Mix.guru.

🌐 No Web Logs
We do not keep activity logs of any kind.
Having Google Captcha and keeping no logs. Ok.

Unless and otherwise special measures are taken, all clear-net sites are by default accessible by Tor. Nice of you to mention it as feature.

TLDR: Guy has problem in basic concepts. More of a wannabe project, than a honeypot. Cheesy
3  Other / Archival / Re: [banned mixer] | Best Bitcoin Mixer | Low fees | Fully automated on: January 09, 2023, 07:38:42 PM
So, it is not a free mixing service. Right?

Also, what are the minimum & maximum value that you can mix at one go?
4  Other / Meta / Re: We can not discuss if 'ChipMixer is a honeypot or not' outside their own thread? on: December 09, 2022, 01:27:21 PM
WoW! Just WoW! As soon as I created this thread here, the thread got unlocked and moved from Bitcoin Discussion to Service Discussion. Nice Ninja move by someone in the moderation team to tarnish my reputation in public eye. Kudos to the people who think, after spending 8+ years on BitcoinTalk, I can not recognize the difference between a locked and an unlocked thread. I should have taken a screenshot. My mistake, that I did not.

I don't know if locking & unlocking of a topic shows up in modlog or leave any other trace. If it does, it can be independently verified if the topic was locked for a brief period or not.

Regarding theymos, I have utmost respect for that man. I have witnessed, at the time of crisis in scaling debate, how he stood his ground against all odds. So, I thought, it would be worthwhile to tag him in a situation, where a mod is trying to cover some information from having maximum exposure on BitcoinTalk.

OP updated.
5  Other / Meta / We can not discuss if 'ChipMixer is a honeypot or not' outside their own thread? on: December 08, 2022, 10:17:23 PM
Moderators locked my thread!

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5426967.0

From Fake Satoshi to FTX collpase, everything can be discussed in multiple threads. But, no one can doubt & discuss ChipMixer outside of their own thread. Especially, if that involves public poll.

Seriously theymos? Does not it make obvious things look more obvious?

Update: Thread seems to have been unlocked since I made this post here.
6  Economy / Service Discussion / Is ChipMixer a probable HoneyPot? on: December 08, 2022, 02:26:03 PM
Lately, I have come across a twitter thread that claims 'popular Bitcoin mixer ChipMixer is actually a United States government honeypot'. I think, he has made some compelling statements in his thread. I am copy-pasting the content verbatim. Let us know, what you think...

1. Today, I'm sharing my long-standing theory behind a US government covert operation designed to partially crack Bitcoin privacy and deanonymize transactions. I believe that popular Bitcoin mixer ChipMixer is actually a United States government honeypot. Here's why.

2. I saw this tweet the other day, and a few projects that I've been observing came to mind. But ChipMixer is one I'm absolutely sure about, as it was created when the government was newer to crypto, so they didn't obfuscate the telltale signs of a honeypot very well...

3. The US government goes to great lengths to have access to flows of online information. This includes the ability to access history and private conversations on most social media platforms. For example, their warrantless internet surveillance rooms: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Room_641A

4. Cryptocurrency usage surged in 2016 and 2017. Smart governments noticed that anonymous cryptocurrencies would eventually allow criminals to move around large amounts of money in a manner that renders capital controls worthless. I believe this is when the US formulated this move.

5. In May of 2017, ChipMixer was released by a brand new anonymous account on the Bitcoin Talk forum. It quickly rose to prominence, offering mixing via fungible outputs, large reserves, a smooth UX, clearnet access, and true anonymity (when it came to external analysis).

6. Interestingly, ChipMixer released with a "pay what you want" model, which is uncommon for mixers. Users were not charged a mandatory fee for mixing and instead could donate to the website. As any tech entrepreneur will tell you, donations are usually not a viable business model.

7. The story starts getting suspicious when you look at ChipMixer's expenditure. With zero revenue, ChipMixer paid out several large alpha tester bounties, bought ad space on the forum, and ran a large signature campaign, with expenses in the tens or hundreds of bitcoins.

8. After looking at ChipMixer's history, it's clear to me that they are being bankrolled by an extremely wealthy entity who doesn't care about profitability and has a lot of money to burn on making the service popular - millions spent, but revenue coming solely from small donations.

9. Running a centralized Bitcoin mixer is extremely illegal, and the risk/reward doesn't check out if you don't care about making profits. UHNW individuals will all tell you that committing loss-making crimes for the sake of altruism isn't ever worth the risk of jail time.

10. $10m is a lot of money for most, but for the CIA or the NSA, it's a rounding error. As a government, how much would you pay to potentially get access to the underbelly of an anonymous, decentralized payments network sometimes used by criminals to launder massive amounts of money?

11. In crypto, there are better mixing methods out there, such as CoinJoins or zero-knowledge proofs. The most popular zero-knowledge mixing protocol was Tornado Cash. Tornado Cash gave users complete obfuscation & anonymity - even from the operator of the service.

12. Earlier this year, the US government cracked down on Tornado Cash, adding it to the OFAC sanctions list. I suspect this is because they felt highly threatened by the advent of true anonymity, which Tornado Cash provided. There is no data to subpoena from an open source protocol.

13. On the other hand, even though ChipMixer provides external anonymity, there is one big difference. The operator of ChipMixer has complete access to every transaction - deanonymized! Despite privacy tech's availability, ChipMixer still runs a model where the owner has god mode.

14. ChipMixer has been used by several high-profile criminals, such as the Ronin bridge hackers (from North Korea!) & the Binance hackers. Some have even been identified and caught after using it, such as the Twitter hackers. It's no joke and is affiliated with serious crime groups.

15. Many large mixers have shut down due to legal action or unprofitability. Tornado Cash has been sanctioned, and their developers have been unfairly demonized. Yet - ChipMixer is running normally (on the clearnet, at that!) and no regulatory action has been taken whatsoever.

16. So, why attack Tornado Cash and other mixers and leave ChipMixer alone despite both being used by similar groups? I think the answer is clear - ChipMixer is the US government's ace in the hole. A secret weapon that nobody knows about and can be used when necessary.

17. This is a covert operation, so there will be no open admission or provable link, but based on the reasoning above, as well as private conversations I've had with Bitcoin OGs, it is clear to me that ChipMixer is a honeypot owned by a major world government, most likely the US.

18. While I obviously support criminals going to jail, I also think optional anonymity is important and would prefer to have less covert privacy-breaking efforts out in the wild rather than more. For those interested in alternatives, check out CoinJoin tools like Wasabi Wallet.

19. I hope you enjoyed reading my theory. It's been on my mind for a while and I find the topic fascinating. I would love to hear thoughts and opinions on this, especially from Bitcoin OGs, so drop your comments below if you can! Thank you.

Mind debunking that news for us?
Try our customer service then try any gov customer service.

Thought of asking the following questions to you openly, instead of asking your customer service. Wink

I see, you are using a CAPTCHA. I'm not sure if it was there from the beginning.

1. What's the purpose of it?

2. Is it generated through some third party service?

3. If yes, which one? Do not they get to know your customer's data as well?

4. How about using HCAPTCHA instead of it?

Since we are not collecting profit from these fees, our business model is based in locking in the bitcoin deposited in the system and not withdrawn for 12-24 months.

WTF does this mean?

Tor is removing support for legacy V2 addresses. Tor V3 addresses provide better encryption algorithms and anonymity.
Is the attack on V3 completely over? Are the vulnerabilities fixed or this might happen again?

15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 100 ETH Puzzle! on: November 24, 2020, 04:54:12 PM
Just coming here to check if anyone has been lucky enough to break into the wallet, but I see there's not been anyone, this hints can only begin to make some sense towards the end of the puzzle game, till then, I will just stand by and watch as I have tried severally with no luck  I think those with advanced technical and fundamental blockchain skills stand a better chance of breaking into the wallet.
But then, I wish everyone Goodluck.
100 ETH is now worth ~47k USD. I guess, sharpest minds will now join the hunt.
Already over 60k USD.

3 @ 0.01
As it seems that the top 5 bids already cover all the 9 slots. So, how is this significant @ 0.01?

3 @ 0.011  Visa Pre-Paid cards - https://ibandirect.com/
This is invalid. It is stated in OP that 'All bid prices must be evenly divisible by 0.01.'

--snip--

Also, as you are providing letter of guarantee, use of CDN would not allow MITM. Without using CDN, you are just exposing your IP, i.e. 46.17.96.4, open for DDOS.

It's the other way around...
A CDN is just a content delivery network. It won't protect you against DDOS attacks.
Wrong. Cloudflare is a CDN and it does mitigate DDOS attacks. Read more about it here: https://www.cloudflare.com/ddos/. In fact, BitcoinTalk also uses Cloudflare for DDOS protection.
With regret, I am (for now) admitting defeat on the DDoS front, and we will soon be using using Cloudflare to protect against DDoS attacks.

I do know one CDN that's giving away proxy functionality for free... And because they act as a proxy, they also mitigate DDOS attacks to a certain point (eventough their primary function is being a caching proxy). However, this CDN DOES act like a MITM. I stay away from any mixer that uses this CDN, since they'll decrypt any data exchanged between me and the mixer and they'll be able to store the unencrypted data in a US based server farm.
This depends on implementation. If the website owner is using HTTP then MITM is definitely possible. If HTTPS is used, where SSL is provided by CLoudflare, then also MITM is possible. But, if, HTTPS is used, but SSL is provided by hosting provider, then CLoudflare has no way to intercept. This helps to protect from DDOS as well as mitigate the risk of MITM.

I've actually written a complete thread about this in the past:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5247838
please read and educate yourself before you push anybody towards cloudflare in the future... Cloudflare is fine for any service that isn't privacy-focussed... But not if you think your clients don't want their details in an FBI/CIA/DOD/... database. I, for  one, wouldn't care if the FBI knew i was buying new lightbulbs, so a lightbulbstore could use cloudflare.
On the other hand, i WOULD mind if the FBI knew i was mixing coins, or buying a subscription to a porn site, or if i bought a new hunting knife. So if one of these businesses would use cloudflare, i wouldn't touch them with a 20 foot pole.
Was not aware of this thread. It is a fantastic thread to be honest. I have merited whatever I had to this thread.

What the OP is doing is the best possible scenario...
Wrong. Part 2: A https site using it's own certificate (aka, best case scenario) - this is the best case scenario when used in conjunction with Cloudflare, because Cloudflare mitigates the DDOS problem as well as hides the hosting IP from public eye.

BTW: there are other, better, more superior ways of dealing with a DDOS attack. If you're running an online service, and you need privacy for your users, you should stay away from cloudflare...
Please enlighten the community with those superior ways to mitigate DDOS. BitcoinTalk may adopt those to get rid of Cloudflare as well.

How do you ensure that coins sent to you in a previous mixing will not return to the user at a later mixing?

Also, as you are providing letter of guarantee, use of CDN would not allow MITM. Without using CDN, you are just exposing your IP, i.e. 46.17.96.4, open for DDOS.
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Beirut explosion - Lesson to learn from this. on: August 06, 2020, 07:49:26 PM
People can quickly become complacent to think that their single location storage of their Bitcoin hoard would be enough. We all saw how 300 000 people have lost their houses in as little as a few seconds.

The Beirut explosion should be a wake-up call to all of us, to store your Paper wallets and cold wallets in more than one geographical location. A national disaster or a accident like this might wipe out your house and if you used that as your primary hiding place, you would lose more than your house.

After a disaster like this, bulldozers are brought in and only the foundations might be left after they are done. (So hiding it in a safe or a wall or the roof is a bad idea.)

Make sure you have several copies of your Paper wallets/Private keys and store them in separate locations. You might not even be at home when a disaster like this happens and when you return, the authorities might stop you from entering the devastated area. (due to instability of structures or chemical/gas leaks.) So you will not have a opportunity to retrieve your stash.

Wake up and act now... before it is too late.  Wink

I'd like to know how glacier protocol performs in such cases.
