So, I haven't been here in a while, what's this talk about bounties?

I spend a lot of time on /r/jailbreak and such, I've heard of bounties on bugs or critical security risks but what is a bounty here? Is it the same thing?

I'm not trying to make a quality post here, but I'd truly like to know what this is all about.

i don't know, i'm kind of tired of facebook and social networking as a whole, i don't know how people grow such large bases unless they are already well established, i have 30 friends on twitter. and most of them are just silly quote bots and what not so really what's the point?

it's just tiring knowing that you have x amount of friends on facebook and none of them really want to communicate with you

Silicon valley for sure, I've already done the San Diego thing and it wasn't really my thing, there's a lot of bad crap that goes down there that I'm not into cost me a year of my life (I didn't do anything but still)

Yeah I'm having more and more trouble with computers from places like best buy and walmarts they seem to think paying 400+ dollars for a computer is worth it. This computer would probably be way less than that.

And yes, my mom pays but I don't know how much she pays per whatever. She doesn't let me know her business we don't have a great relationship

Yeah a lot of spam from there, and the other problem is taking an ad down but it actually not being "down" until weeks later so if you've sold an item it's still listed. It's ridiculous, I got a phone call not a couple weeks ago about a phone I listed probably half a year ago. Of course I don't have that phone.

I don't think that I quoted you on that, that was more or less in response to the responses I'm getting for what I'm saying, and thanks I don't need a lesson on how forums work I was a mod at one for many years so I'm well aware thanks.

you all got your panties in a bunch something today, it's like is if somebody doesn't agree with you there's some reason the jump down my throat. i'm well aware that into 2011 I could've bought bitcoin $14, but for me in 2011 there wasn't much media about bitcoin. i'm aware that it was a gamble and risk and then nobody knew it was going to blow up. stop assuming things about me that you definitely don't know are true one, and secondly stop trolling my threads and stop calling my response. that's why if I were on the outside looking in on bitcoin, I wouldn't have the damn bit of interest in it because of responses like the ones in the thread.

Craigslist really is a roll the dice, i've sold computers cars etc on there and you really have to be careful. I guess you have to be attuned to how the person is acting about the trade. I personally would never sell bitcoin on craigslist

Who said I was whining? It absolutely should be easier for people to adopt to bitcoin right now. Just because a bunch of stores or shops are accepting it now doesn't mean it's "gaining ground".

I ended up having to reinstall windows and lost my wallet and of course the wallet.dat or whatever that came with the one connected to my latium account. I suppose that means I'm out of my 5 free lat now right?

I wouldn't say it's unfair to the non tech savy, but 3 or so years ago when I first had even heard about it the word "Bitcoin" in itself was just a joke that I saw on twitter constantly. It's unfair to people NOW because the only possible way to get any is from signature campaigns and such.


But not everyone always pays attention to techy things, if people are going to introduce others into the bitcoin world they need a basis to start from. Not a lot of people in 2011 probably even knew what it was or how to get it. Of course jumping on the bandwagon now is kind of dumb because of how high priced they are and how difficult mining or getting any is.

It isn't so much that it's complicated, I mean it's pretty straight forward on how to set up a wallet, and how to get your first bitcoin if you are talking back in 2011 and earlier. Faucets etc, it's just that a lot of people are thinking to themselves now "Well now how the hell am I going to get some?" As I said earlier, when I first found out about bitcoin people didn't take it seriously, hell I don't take it seriously otherwise I probably would have had quite a few by now.

I don't think it's the persons fault if they walk away, I think the community could do a bit more in reaching out to new adopters to bitcoin and help them, but that's imho.

Well I don't pay for electricity, I'm staying with my mom while she battles cancer. I help with the bill but she doesn't let me "dabble in her business" (ie bills), but uh

I have a Dell
It's got 6 gb of ram, intel 4000 hd graphics (that's what sucks the most) running windows 7 and it's an i3.

It's seriously the worst computer, I can't even run games on it. I don't know why people are selling computers like this now claiming they are the "next best thing" it's like a mid level almost there computer that sucks.

It's not so much a get rich scheme for me, it's more so securing a future. For all I know the price of bitcoin could drop significantly tomorrow or the next day or a month from now and I would have nothing to show for it, or it could bounce back up and I'd have some security.

That's what it's all about for me, I know that sounds ridiculous but with my current financial situation I would like to have some kind of back up and security since it's really the only income I have coming to me.

I just don't see the point of even talking about mining, I guess if I investigated more into the different algos and what not and see what my computer could handle I would mine altcoin and the likes but really is it even worth it?

Yeah I noticed that a lot on localbitcoins (just now I looked and people in my area DO deal with them, surprise!) that people are really looking out for themselves, wanting to meet in lighted areas in the day etc just so they don't get robbed or whatever out of their bitcoin. It's some serious business it seems.

It's almost insulting that it's impossible to break even on bitcoin now actually, if we want world wide adoption to bitcoin why make it so impossible to obtain one? Why doesn't somebody start something that gives little bits (faucets immediate answer I know) of bitcoin but just enough to get people interested enough they don't lose sight of it?

I'm just relaying my own story but when I thought mining was actually profitable in 2011 and bitcoin was $14 a pop and I really didn't have the money to just go buy one, I could have used a faucet or something would have helped me out with that, I would have gone out and told all of my friends about bitcoin, maybe sound like a stark raving lunatic but still, I would have gone out of my way to show people this currency and the many others out there.

Now I'm even skeptical to mention it to anyone, even my ex thinks I'm crazy for wanting to invest in it.

Unless it's for altcoin that just started out or low difficulty?
It's almost useless to mine for bitcoin unless you can fork out thousands of dollars for a special unit to do it, get a botnet, etc. I mean what are the most profitable altcoins to even start with?
I like the idea of the one pool that's trading coins to blackcoin since that seems to be pretty popular from what I've seen but really what is the use? The only way to get bitcoins it seems now is to buy them outright sell your services or do a sig campaign.

Is mining completely dead?

I haven't seen anyone in my area (well both areas that I reside in) post anything involving bitcoin, however lately I've been getting phone calls from someone who either knows me from here, or elsewhere about a coin he's starting. I don't know if it was something someone posted on craigslist or some kind of activity trail leading to me. It's kind of scary they even got my phone number in the first place.

Anyways, I doubt this backwards town that I live in would even know what BTCitcoin even was let alone know how to trade for goods and services or whatever. Maybe back home but not here.
