Crap - looks like i missed the deadline. Damned browser refused to update the timer properly... which means voting's probably over already? Cheesy

Oh well, here's my minimalist effort for what it's worth.

Aimed for contrast and scalability.

Top & bottom images are identical (yay for alpha channels). The outer ring was required for a black background as the logo perimeter 'disappeared' without it.

I am a bit confused about the total amount of coins that can be produced. Does staking go on indefinitely?

yes but at 2% per year total so it only grows that much. Also keep in mind that coins are lost out of circulation through lost wallets etc so the true circulation is always less than the total amount of coins.

I was invited to post my logo concept. Here it is:
...
Very "Imperial" I like it!

I didn't see it at first, took your explanation and then its underwhelming

It is cool graphic design but I think a different portrayal than we need

I am so happy to see myself sliding down the distribution list...  That means people are buying in faster than me!  I'm not alone!!! Smiley

Haha, i've been keeping some data on the distribution over a week or so.  I have no idea what to make of it, other than, the coins are becoming more spread even, and mintpal sees about 1 Mil a day from its wallet to others.  The top 1000 addresses make up about 80% of thecoin dist. but that includes the exchanges.

here's a hint:
week ago top 100 started at 300k, yesterday it was already at 350k and rising, 360k today

Seeing that too, however the average for the top 100 1.76 Mil to 1.63 million.  Whats it all mean bazzle? Smiley

That means the distribution skew and kurtosis on the distribution tail is changing. Also, if you look at the 1000th entry, a week ago it was at 33k, now at >40k WC which suggests a concentration of WC to the top 1000 though that could also be explained by withdrawal from the exchanges to private wallets.

why is chunky always down? I mean seriously, it is down all the time, at least the front end is. If we want people to take the coin seriously, we need our pool to at least be up. Not to mention, the whitecoinfoundation.org site needs to be linked with the news site, preferably rolled into one... and updated like the news site is.

Dunno if PoS working here. Wallet is unlocked (no passphrase applied), about 45k in wallet. Last mined coins 2 days ago Sad.

50k in wallet and last mined coins 5 days ago!

Stake Stake Stake

Stake Stake Stake

Stake your bounty, Yeah!  Stake your bounty, YEAH!

How could it be ? You get stake blocks every minute? How many coins you have on wallet ?

I have only 2 btc or so worth of whitecoin.  I started mining near the very beginning though.  POS is ellusive to alot of ppl, self included.  I still haven't seen a large transfer i did stake, so it must take at least 2 days, but has a max stake time too.

*** EDIT***

I'm on Win8.1. Wallet V 1.0.2.0.  I password protected.  Then unlocked via the console "walletphassphrase password 9999999"

The pending wallet update, simplifies this process

Something seems odd... if you are getting 0.2 WC/min (not exact but approx true from image) it would imply you have alot more coins that you say.

0.2 coins/min * 60 mins/hr * 24 hrs/day * 365 days / yr = 105k coins staked per yr

supposing 2% yield, that would imply 105k coins/ 0.02 = ~5.3 million coins staking....

Though that assumes everyone is staking their coins (i.e. hash rate is what you expect) if you don't make this assumption and instead say you have 2 btc of WC at today's prices, you have ~330k WC... suggests only 6% of coins are actually staking at the moment and you just have a larger portion of the "hashrate" and thus are getting more of the blocks...

So... wtf? you have a ton more than 330k WC or is there just so few people staking? (I suppose if the majority of coins are on exchanges but only 6% staking seems way too small)

Now that we are (hopefully) past the 'oh shit' moments, I think we should update the main whitecoin page... I really really think it needs more than 4 links (mediafire, twitter, github, and chunkypool). There needs to be a community built up there and access for others to join, not just a redirect page.

mogonzo, can you please clarify the intentions of creating a 28 day stake time?

thanks

Its been over a day since the new dev said today (to be released on ~April 28th) but no update on that end. I fully believe that they are testing the wallet but given the delay in wallet rollout and talk of a 28 day stake time I think this coin will lose almost all interest. Its getting harder and harder to believe.... especially with such a long stake time, its ridiculous to believe that people will keep money in their wallet for that long, people in real life don't do that with fiat money and the crypto community tends to be even more ADHD...

I hate illiquid markets... currently trading for <1150 on cryptsy and 1250 on mintpal.... What I wouldn't give for a direct line to buy on cryptsy and sell mintpal and make a killing... Cry

if it were a clone as BC?

If it were a clone to BC then yes, I think the price would follow so long as it were an exact clone (interest, community, etc) and likely the market cap would be split between the two giving ~4500-5000 sats (based on current BC) though BC price would change too. Though this is clearly not the case, it makes for an interesting argument because really the biggest difference will be the 2% inflation POS vs 1% and distribution and interest.

Central banks typically have inflation targets of 2-3% though that is measured in costs per currency not in money supply so it is not directly applicable to call it inflation. WC and all coins have the issue of lost coins decreasing the money supply, though for fiats, they just print more when a damaged bill is returned and continually make more coins/bills to balance the money supply.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] (WC) | WhiteCoin | Distribution Stage Ending SOON! ☯ PoS ☯ exchanges ☯ on: April 24, 2014, 02:31:28 AM
That said, if it were a clone and obtained the same interest as BC (that is the big question), you would expect a similar market cap and thus the price of WC to be ~1/4 of BC (4x more coins out there). One could also argue that interest would be split between the two and market cap in total would be the same as BC started at meaning BC halves and WC goes to 1/8 of BC current price (1/2 * 1/4).

Give the first scenario, you would expect WC to go to ~9000 sats or 4500 sats for the second scenario. Granted only the market will decide though I would expect the long run price to get near this until one goes out of favor or a flaw is found in one...

Makes sense, if the WC devs have a plan for long-term adoption of the currency.

BC is 45000 satoshi not 4500, is anything i`m missing?

On Cryptsy BC is ~38200 sats, that implies WC (at similar development in community and POS) would have a price of ~38200/4 = 9550 sats, or 38200/8 = 4775 sats due to the number of coins and assuming the same market cap. (when I originally posted, BC was ~37000 sats and I round to nice numbers). Its just a very simplified argument to the equilibrium price of WC taking BC as a template.

White Coin :

Total Coins: 300,000,000
Premine 0.78% for Dev support, and future development.
.
.
.
Block Time: 1.5 Minutes
Confirmations on Transactions: 7
Fees: Minimum transaction fee of 0.00005 WC
Stake Interest: 2% annually

Black Coin :

Total Coins: 74,000,000
NO PREMINE (but badly distributed)
.
.
.
Block Time: 1 Minute
Confirmations on Transactions: 10
Fees: Minimum transaction fee of 0.00005 BC
Stake Interest: 1% annually

So basically Whitecoin is a Blackcoin clone.

Only meaningful differences are total coin amount and interest rate.

Confirmations are fast on both.

Yes the differences are small and are a slightly faster confirmation for BC (10 min vs 10.5 min) and 2% inflation (though I think 3-4% might be better to account for lost coins etc but that is my opinion only).

As time goes on, the premine would have less effect (e.g. bitcoin) though I am unsure how the distribution of coins will benefit one over the other, only time will tell...
