1  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitbet.us down. Permanently? on: April 14, 2017, 03:22:40 PM
I have used Bitbet.us occasionally for years and had 1.5 BTC in open bets on the site. Considering that the site has been down for days without any announcement, I am concerned that the owner chose to take the money and run.

However, I can confirm that none of my deposit transactions have yet been moved.
2  Bitcoin / Hardware / How to re-image Beaglebone board for an Antminer S5? on: March 07, 2015, 12:49:43 AM
I have an Antminer S5 which is not working. It does not appear on my list of network devices and so it is inaccessible by HTTP or SSH.

When the Beagleboard and controller board are swapped with known good components from another S5, the miner works as expected. I've contacted Bitmain support and they've advised trying to re-image the Beaglebone board. The problem is I don't know how to do that, and I can't get a clear answer from Bitmain support on how to do it either.

Since I didn't have any spare microSD cards lying around, I bought this one. Bitmain pointed me to these instructions, which only helps with copying the image to the microSD card. I did so with the image provided here using HDDRawCopy.

I put the SD card into the Beaglebone board and booted up the S5. I waited for some time, but nothing ever happened. The fan speed remained low and the unit never appeared on the list of active network devices. I informed Bitmain, and they directed me to this set of instructions, which are not particularly helpful since the stripped-down version of the Beaglebone used for the S5 does not have a USB or 5V power port or a boot button.

The last contact I had from Bitmain was them advising to try with a 4GB microSD card instead. I don't have such a card, and from what I was able to find via search the Beaglebone should support microSD cards up to 32GB so I don't think using a 16GB card is problematic.

I find it hard to believe that no one else has had this issue, though I spent a few minutes searching and couldn't find any useful information. Does anyone know the correct method for re-imaging this board?
3  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [WTB] Buying BTC with cash deposit @ Bitstamp rate on: September 02, 2014, 04:43:10 PM
I will transact with you if you can send first and bank deposit is ok by me but you will cover any fee involve either by escrow or e-currencies payment.

No, thank you. I have an established transaction history numbering in the thousands on LocalBitcoins, and I've been around for years. You have a new account with no feedback. If you want to trade, you are welcome to either send first or pay for escrow, as stated above.
4  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: 12.5 bitcoin sell to $ 570 price bitstamp on: July 28, 2014, 04:30:59 PM
I am interested in buying at that price, via bank deposit if possible. Are you located in the US, and if so where do you bank?
5  Economy / Currency exchange / [WTB] Buying BTC with cash deposit @ Bitstamp rate on: July 28, 2014, 01:19:46 AM
I want to buy bitcoins and am offering to pay the Bitstamp rate.

I am Rishodi on LocalBitcoins, a longtime Pro Trader and trusted member with flawless feedback over thousands of transactions with hundreds of trading partners.

$500 minimum, $8000 maximum for trades via cash deposit. I am located in the Eastern Time Zone and if we agree to a trade before 4 pm I will make the deposit the same day. I can deposit to WF, BoA, PNC, SunTrust, BB&T, or Co-op. I also offer other payment methods at varying rates (see my LBC profile).

You will send the BTC first unless you can show that you are more reputable than me. Escrow is welcome but will be at your expense.

PM me if interested.
6  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Camp BX Withraw Funds Problem on: May 17, 2014, 04:31:09 PM
For months, CampBX has been having delays processing both deposits and withdrawals in USD. Many customers have reported waiting weeks or even months for deposits to be credited or withdrawals to be received. If you look at the recent posts by others on their facebook page, you'll find many customers complaining about how long they've been waiting.

Opening a support ticket is the first action you should take, but you may have to wait days for any response and much longer before any problem is actually resolved. This is the primary reason why I withdrew all funds from CampBX in February and have not deposited there since.
7  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Localbitcoins Update on: April 18, 2014, 06:56:39 PM
This is the reply which I have posted on the LocalBitcoins blog:

Quote
From the given information, the theft depended on 1) session hijacking and 2) compromised 2FA. Although this is certainly indicative of a compromised user device, LocalBitcoins needs to take more aggressive action to inhibit session hijacking.

Even with 2FA enabled, requests which originate from a user with a different IP address and browser than that which was recorded at the initiation of a session should be responded to by immediately destroying that session and asking the user to reauthenticate. In this particular case, the withdrawal request was associated with an IP address and user agent header which were distinguishably different from that which was recorded at the start of the session. As a result, the request should have been flagged as suspicious and denied.

Of course, such policies may not have been able to prevent the theft in this particular case. If the attacker was able to gain not merely read-only permissions but also execution permissions on the user's device, then the attacker could have sent the request directly from the user's device using the existing session, and the request would not appear suspicious to the server. If the attacker was able to access both the user's password and 2FA code, then the attacker could simply establish a new session from anywhere and subsequently send the withdrawal request.

Nonetheless, it is alarming to find that the security of session management at LocalBitcoins is certainly lacking. Taking a more proactive approach to session security would help to inhibit attacks and bolster trust in the LocalBitcoins platform. A good technical overview of the topic can be found here: https://wblinks.com/notes/secure-session-management-tips/

For anyone who uses LocalBitcoins, the safest course of action is to 1) enable 2FA and 2) logout after every session. Logging out will close the user session, and with no active sessions you are not susceptible to a session hijack attempt.
8  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: March 21, 2014, 12:46:25 AM
Regarding the PSU, I contacted Enermax to inquire about the ERV1000EWT-G. I asked:

(1) What is the expected MTBF for this PSU if placed under a 85% or 90% load continuously?
(2) What is the maximum recommended continuous load for this PSU?

This is the response I received:

Quote
1.     We do not have figures for MTBF at 85% or 90% load, but similar calculations show that at 100% load, the MTBF will be 42% less than in 70% load.

2.     1000W.  Yet please note that the best efficiency of this power supply is at 350~600W load range.  If system is constantly run at 800~1000W, we recommended to use 1500W PSU for best power consumption consideration.

Of course, the one caveat is that I do not know for sure that this is the exact model of PSU being used in the S2.
9  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: how high fan speed percentage is bad? on: March 16, 2014, 02:19:33 AM
We run all of our fans at a flat 80%. Seems to be a good compromise between good airflow, and not killing the fans.

Tried using 80% fan speed and about 6 out of 20 fan died after 3 months.... is it because of the sapphire brand I am using?

Sapphire fans are complete shit.  All my cards are Sapphire and all of the fans have died in under a year using 100%.  Now I use 80% so we shall see.

The expected lifetime of any fan, regardless of the brand, is likely measured in months if it is continuously running at maximum speed.
10  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: March 16, 2014, 02:07:05 AM
I feel that Bitmain is skimping on the PSU.  Assuming that they're using Enermax ERV1000EWT-G 80 Plus Gold which is approximately 90% efficient at around full load (996W or 83A total on the 12V rail), the S2 would be drawing around 900WDC (1000WAC at the wall*90%) from this PSU.  That's a 90% (900W/996W) continuous load 24/7.  That's too close for comfort.  A 1200W PSU (75% load) would be more appropriate.  Personally, I prefer a 1500W PSU (60% load) for the S2; much closer to peak efficiency which is at 50% load.

Bitmain should offer an option to sell the S2 without a power supply at an appropriately reduced price so we could supply our own PSU just like with the S1s or get rid of the relatively puny 1000-Watter and use at least a 1200W premium PSU.  The cost difference for them shouldn't be that much especially when purchased in bulk.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817194101

I am also concerned about Bitmain's choice of power supply. As a rule of thumb, it's not a good idea to demand more than a 80% continuous load from a PSU. Sustained loads close to the maximum output will decrease power efficiency and significantly reduce the expected operating life.

Your estimates are the same as mine: considering Bitmain's claimed power draw of 1000W at the wall, we can assume that the power supply is operating at around 90% of maximum output. Even if it's operating at just 85% of maximum output, that is still an uncomfortably high level for a continuous load.

I feel that it would have been more prudent to offer a 1200W power supply to keep the load at 70-75% of maximum capacity, or allow customers to select their own. I would appreciate the option to purchase an S2 without a PSU so that I have an opportunity to select a more suitable PSU of my own choice.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: WARNING: Potential 51% attack on Litecoin by GHash on: March 15, 2014, 07:43:20 PM
It looks like GHash.io's litecoind (or equivalent) was desynced from the rest of the Litecoin network for a few hours. GHash.io was continually trying to solve block #531801 because, for whatever reason, it had not received the dozens of blocks which had been found by the network since that one.

The situation appears to have been resolved now, since a few minutes ago Ghash.io found block #531891.
12  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Hardware with reasonable ROI? on: February 15, 2014, 12:08:27 AM
You know, 48 is considered as "almost 50".
45 is considered as "almost 50".
But not 35 and $35 is highest value that ltc ever reached!

On 28 Nov. 2013 the exchange rate of LTC on BTC-e nearly did reach $50, peaking at more than $48.
13  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S1 Setup on: February 01, 2014, 02:03:16 AM
I have added exhaust fans on each of my AntMiners to complement the existing intake fans. They both work and are being controlled by PWM. However, the UI consistently reports the RPM for both new fans as zero. Is there some configuration setting I have to change to enable correct speed reporting in the UI?
14  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S1 Setup on: January 30, 2014, 02:47:07 AM
Which advice? The part where I recommend not stabbing improperly sized and unstabilized terminals into high-current-capacity clips and trusting $1000+ hardware to it?
No, the potentially fatal advice that 12V (80A) isn't dangerous.

Okay, I know this post is 6 weeks old, but nonetheless I had to reply to set the record straight.

12V is not dangerous, period. If you don't believe me, ask any car mechanic (and here's a link). The 12V battery in your car is capable of producing hundreds of amps of current, far more than any DC converter you have in your house, including your computer PSUs. Yet your car battery is completely safe to handle. You can even bridge the terminals with your hands and nothing will happen. Sure, if you wet your skin you might feel a shock (similar to putting a 9V battery on your tongue), but it's just not going to hurt you because 12V is insufficient electrical potential for overcoming the resistance of the human body to deliver a fatal amount of current to your heart. When you're handling live 12V leads, your biggest worry should be making sure not to short them. Don't worry about getting a deadly shock, because it's just not going to happen.

Radeon 6870 graphics card
Amazon product page -- Newegg product page

Comes in original box with manual & (outdated) driver CD. I'll throw in a PCI-e x1 riser, which I had been using with this card, if you want it. Asking 0.15 BTC (or equivalent in LTC) which includes shipping anywhere in the continental US. I have a flawless reputation on localbitcoins. Escrow is fine if you pay the fee.

Default clock: 900 MHz / 1050 MHz
Mines scrypt stably at 322 kh/s when clocked at 950 MHz / 850 MHz at stock voltage.
18  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: campbx customers service is AWFUL on: December 04, 2013, 08:26:25 PM
CampBX customer support is definitely lacking, as is the amount and clarity of the information they provide to customers on their site. I'm not surprised that they have a minimum deposit amount that cannot be found in their FAQ or deposit webpages. Just last week, I inquired to support regarding one of their policies, and I received a terse response which only partially answered my questions. I followed up by pointing out that they could save themselves, and their customers, some trouble by elucidating precisely what their policy is in this particular area on their site, but unsurprisingly the information available on their site was not subsequently updated.

Out of curiosity, what is their minimum deposit amount?

Now I can't decide if it's even worth the hassle of fighting with western union to reclaim funds Sad  (ever dealt with western union? i think they designed it intentionally so that you want to rip your hair out, so people will learn and they wont have to provide as much service)
Allow me to save you some time: don't bother. Western Union charges a $15 fee to process any refund request.

Also I think you can buy a money order on credit card? (I used cash). I might try this, and it might be dangerous.
That's not correct; at least, it isn't at any location I've ever visited. Most places will allow you to purchase a money order using a debit card, but not a credit card, for obvious reasons.
19  Economy / Service Discussion / OKPay no longer offering services to US customers on: December 04, 2013, 07:23:43 PM
As of today, I logged into my OKPay account and was greeted with the following notice. It states that OKPay will no longer offer financial services to accounts based in the United States, and requests that all US citizens and businesses withdraw their funds from OKPay by the end of the year.

For several months, OKPay has not been accepting new account registrations from the US. I had hoped that they would continue to allow existing accounts based in the US to function. Unfortunately, it looks like another innovative and useful financial service is no longer available to those of us in the US thanks to the overly restrictive and burdersome government regulations we have here.

Edit: So far there has been no official announcement of this policy change on OKPay's news page.
20  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [65000 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: September 26, 2013, 04:55:01 AM
I just hope the the new and improved Slush 2.0 solves this long-assed block soon and moves on Smiley

Pool luck (1 day, 7 days, 30 days): 135%, 98%, 106%

Pool luck looks normal so maybe its just the new mining world with these high difficulties and so many different pools and large solo miners. You can only cut the pie so many times until all the pieces look to small.

I'm pretty sure that luck reflects the results of the previous block found, not the current block. when this one resolves, it will drag luck down.

That is correct. A round does not factor into luck calculations until after a block is found, and when the current round is over the daily luck is going to drop well under 100%.
