2  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER CPU/GPU miner, GPU overclock+monitor+fanspeed in C for linux/windows/osx on: September 15, 2011, 08:28:02 AM
When i'm using this each gpu uses a full cpu core all the time. Is it supposed to or is something wrong on my end?

Driver bug.

Any idea how to fix it?

Avast antivirus this morning suddenly decided cgminer was malware and deleted it.
Just a heads up you might want to turn it off if you use it.

Anybody got any other ideas why it uses two cores all the times?

im still getting 2 cores being used fully with 11.6 drivers.
Though only with crossfire mode turned on, if it turn it off the cpu usage drops a ton but then it only detects one gpu and not both?

Ah i see, okay thankyou i will try that driver and report back.

Also i just tested cgminer some more, Okay you are right about this being much better. Big thankyou for the suggestion.

I absolutely love how it auto clocks my card if it gets too hot or its not working hard enough, and scales with what im doing, with guiminer i would have to stop it and change the -f setting so it didnt steal all my cycles in a game, but this does it all automatically, thats fantastic.
I can also underclock my ram much further than afterburner will allow me so my temps are much lower too.

You would still need to send it to a confirmed address otherwise paypal would not care.

11.8 drivers and cgminer - the best most fully featured mining software out there

I'm getting a little more mh/s with that but now its maxing out two cpu cores instead of one   :-(

Also what fan control are you guys using?  With my XFX 6870, if I leave fan control on auto, it will stay at 35% fan and let the temp get up to 84 deg C, so I manually set it at 50% to drop the temps to about 78 deg C.  What are reasonable maximum temps for 24/7 operation, and will I wear out the fans at a 50% speed 24/7?

I've got it set to auto, which keeps it at around 80% speed. I would doubht they would wear out from being on 24/7, and if they ever did you could just get a replacement cooler for pretty cheap.

Yeah i am using the latest drivers available, and the latest guiminer, my mh/s has gone up with them but one of the cores is still locked at full use all the time with opencl :S

Just woundering what software do you guys use for ati cards?
At the moment i'm using GUIMiner in opencl mode with good results, but it makes one of my cores locked at full usage all the time.
So i was woundering if there is any miner you would consider the best all around over opencl?
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: can you stop the gpu miner stealing cycles when gaming? on: July 10, 2011, 03:11:53 PM
yeah same, cant stand lower than 60fps :p. I was just woundering if i could continue hashing when playing a game since otherwise that power would go wasted. Not many games max my gpus anyway.

Edit:
240 seems to work really well, takes me from 79 fps to 69 which is still perfectly acceptable. In other games that demanded more power i think i need to use higher values still though, guess i'll keep swapping what im using depending on what im doing. thanks for the help.

is the flag not aggressive at keeping the system running at that framerate? at 60 my games run at 30-40fps.
I'll try as you suggested though, thanks
14  Other / Beginners & Help / can you stop the gpu miner stealing cycles when gaming? on: July 10, 2011, 01:33:09 PM
Ive got my opencl miner running with the -f 60 flag. But in games it still steals most of the cycles, is it possible somehow to change it so it will be lower priority so the power that isnt being used by the gpu for the game is then used by the miner app? Or atleast some way to stop it hogging it all?
thanks
