1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: 🌟🚀 [Pre-ANN] AZULIK: adding privacy to DAG fee-less instant transactions 🌟🚀 on: January 15, 2018, 12:27:31 AM
Seems promising, although I think you should think of a better name of your project, I don't know if it's just me, but AZULIK doesn't sound cool. Your project strong points is that it tries to be a currency that is fast and anonymous, so you should probably think of a name that describe this aspect of your project.

I think airdrops are not good for fair distributions because most people who will get these airdrops are not interested in the project but rather just looking for a way to sell it.

Raiblock's distribution was great because people who believed in Raiblock had to waste a lot of time to accumulate XRB, these people we will the hodlers that actually believe in the project and thus support the price.

My suggest is that you start the distribution as early as you can, even before releasing AZULIK these way you'll give a lot of people the chance to participate.

You should combine multiple systems of Captcha, for example, using pictures, typing words, solving math problems, use a combination of these Captcha to make it impossible for anyone to develop a bot that solve Captcha.

I hope your project succeed, and I will be watching this topic for any new announcement.

well, to be honest "raiblocks" doesn't sound cool either, and everyone seems to be mispronouncing it as "raiL blocks".

I agree that the name sucks but it will do for now.  Raiblocks will probably re-brand to Nano which does sound cool to me.  Typically when coins re-brand they get a nice pump so why not leave Azulik as Azulik for now and plan on a nice re-brand after it actually launches?
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: 🌟🚀 [Pre-ANN] AZULIK: adding privacy to DAG fee-less instant transactions 🌟🚀 on: January 15, 2018, 12:21:54 AM
The purpose is adding anonimity function to raiblocks.
But already exist aidos kuneen is DAG+anonimity.
so i think its not innovative.
Hmmm...I looked at the Aidos Kuneen website http://www.aidoskuneen.com/.  No whitepaper, no link to a github. They don't give any real technical information.  They only said that it is based on a DAG and the sender has to verify two other transactions, so it sounds like something similar to IOTA's tangle  The only 'exchange' is something they run themselves apparently (https://aidosmarket.com) and there appears to be zero liquidity.  Looks highly sketchy to me.
3  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] KRAKEN.COM - Exchange with USD EUR GBP JPY CAD BTC LTC XRP NMC XDG STR ETH on: June 14, 2017, 08:29:18 PM
Sadly I have yet another tale to tell about Kraken support.  Until searching for an outlet for my frustrations I had no idea that this thread existed or that Kraken had caused problems to so many people.  I deposited a large sum of fiat (well into 5 figures) to my Kraken account by SWIFT transfer last week.  It arrived but it was put on hold so I opened a ticket to find out what happened (#359454).  On Monday I had a reply asking me why the sending account and Kraken accounts are in different names.  But they are both the same and I told them so.  Then Rei replied with this: "My apologies. I just noticed that was apart of your address. I will send this now to our payments team to release your transaction. They will be in touch.".  That last message was more than 48 hours ago.

So Kraken have admitted it was their error, but it is now more than two days later and I am still waiting for my funds to be released.  There is no phone number to call, and no online chat.  I have sent two further replies to the ticket, but to no avail.  If anybody from Kraken is monitoring this please help.  I know it is less than a week since the transfer arrived, and that is nothing compared to the experiences of some other unfortunates here, but I find it hard to accept any delay greater than 24 hours when Kraken admit to have made the error in the first place.
4  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Dell Customer Service: "Bitcoin - is that some sort of wire transfer?" on: July 23, 2015, 12:01:41 PM
I've just tried it and it went well (Of course I faked the details, I'm not gonna buy sth right now).
And it redirected me to Coinbase payment page.
Screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/LdmcSKu.png

I didn't get any troubles.

Yeah, thanks for checking.  I placed the order and paid with my Payoneer debit card.  I received an order confirmation, then nothing. I called Dell and it turns out they would not accept the card because although it is denominated in USD it was issued by a UK company and they would not accept it for payment in the USA - which was the sort of crap that I wanted to avoid by paying with bitcoin in the first place.  Dell never contacted me in any way to inform me that there was a problem - it was up to me to check the order status and question why it was not being shipped.

So I went back and placed a new order, but this time using a different browser and this time the bitcoin payment worked beautifully.  For the record I had the problem using Chrome and I later placed the successful order using IE.

In brief:  bitcoin great, Dell customer service crap!
5  Economy / Service Discussion / Dell Customer Service: "Bitcoin - is that some sort of wire transfer?" on: July 22, 2015, 10:06:57 PM
Dell may be accepting bitcoin they have a way to go before before bitcoin acceptance filters down to their customer service agents, never mind going mainstream.  I tried to order a computer at Dell.com and pay by bitcoin.  For some reason the order process got stuck in a loop when I clicked 'Submit Order' and it never presented me with a bitcoin address for my payment.  I spent a long time on the phone in a merry-go-round between Dell Customer Support, Dell Order Modification and Dell Credit Card Payments departments (possibly among other departments which I was too confused to comprehend).  Having been passed around from one to the next and back to the start several times one thing became abundantly clear.  None of the  people I spoke to were even aware that Dell take bitcoin payments and had no idea what I was talking about.  In the end, after 95 minutes, with my patience rapidly diminishing, one seriously said: "Bitcoin - is that some sort of wire transfer?".  Then when she offered to send me back to Dell Credit Card Payments (yet again) I pleaded with  her "Don't you have a Bitcoin Department?".  "Yes Sir" she said "I will put you through to the Bitcoin Department right now".

My elation was short-lived when I found myself straight to the back at the main menu.  Thanks Dell

6  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BitIndex - The time, money, and computing power wasting database project on: October 24, 2014, 02:39:33 AM
Hi BitcoinCitizen86403, I enjoyed your little hoax, but in case anyone is worried about the security of their bitcoins because of BitIndex let me put you at ease with some simple calculations which will help to put the security of bitcoin in perspective.

There are exactly 2^160 possible bitcoin addresses, which translates to 1.46 * 10^48.  The reason BitcoinCitizen86403 had some of us concerned is because we humans can't conceive of such enormous numbers.  Let's make them easier to grasp.

1. Imagine that every possible bitcoin address is a molecule of water.  It is trivial to calculate that 1.46 * 10^48 / 6 * 10^23 (Avagadro's number) is 2.44 * 10^24 moles.  Multiply by the molecular weight of water (18) gives us a mass of 4.38 * 10^25 grams.  And as 1 cubic centimeter of water also weighs 1 gram we can calculate the volume of the droplet of water, which turns out to be 44 billion cubic kilometers.  Using the formula Vol = 4/3 πr^3 we can now calculate that the diameter of the 'droplet' would be 4376km.  This would be 32 times the volume of ALL the water on earth, including oceans, rivers, lakes, polar ice etc.  Or to put it another way, our existing moon is 3475km in diameter - 900km less than Bitmoon.

2. You stated on your blog that after four months you had reached address 1,325,000,000,000,000.  And you ask us to believe that you actually found an address with a non-zero balance among them.  Quite impressive to have archived and checked 1,325 trillion addresses for bitcoin balances, but let's put that on our water scale.  A droplet of 1,325 trillion water molecules would have a diameter of 0.04mm.  That is about the size of a pollen grain.

3. On blockchain.info you can check the number of unique bitcoin addresses currently in use (ie non-zero).  This is about 200,000.  200,000 water molecules would make a droplet 22 nanometers in diameter.  About the size of a virus.

4. So, if we are to believe you, you have effectively succeeded in firing a pollen grain totally at random into the heart of Bitmoon and hitting, by chance, the one and only special particle (the size of a virus) which contains anything of value, which you say you declined to steal anyway.

5. Furthermore, if you continue to hash away at the problem with 10,000 times the computing power that you already have, after 100 years you will have archived 4 * 10^21 addresses.  On our water scale this will make a droplet of 6mm diameter.  So after spending your fortune along the way you can have your fun by firing a 6mm bullet instead of a pollen grain.  Anyway I will not be losing sleep over it.  I wish you the best of luck, but I think we are all safe from BitIndex.
7  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum will not start on: October 14, 2014, 05:38:55 PM
I have been happily using Electrum 1.9.7 for several months but since yesterday I am not able to start it.  The Electrum background process starts for two or three seconds and then closes with no error message.  I am on Windows 8.1 64 bit.  I have restarted the computer and downloaded version 1.9.8 but it is still the same.  Following instructions from another thread I emptied my ...AppData\Roaming\Electrum\wallets folder and attempted to start Electrum, but still the same problem.  I have the seed if I need to use it, but since I can't open Electrum I am getting nowhere.  Can anyone help?

Update:

I now have Electrum working again.  The first time I tried to delete just the default_wallet file, but this time I renamed the whole Electrum folder to Electrum_bak.  This time when I started Electrum it allowed me to restore from the seed.  Ok, I have my wallet and bitcoins back (and my heart rate is almost back to normal) but what happened to the original default_wallet file?  It would not open in notepad and appears to be corrupt.  I can sort of open it in NoteTab but it comes up with the message: "Warning: 'default_wallet' may be a binary file. 2538776 non-text characters have been converted to '.' (Alt+0183)".  I saw a thread from Eskimo (Re: Electrum not opening, lost seed. Help needed ***Reward***) which looks like a similar problem, but with a less happy ending.  Any ideas what is going wrong?
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Genesis-mining.com || World's leading hosted Scrypt hashpower provider! on: July 07, 2014, 08:52:38 PM
I was lucky enough to have my 2MH/s upgraded to 2.23MH/s. Woot woot!

Typo? A 15% upgrade should be 2.3 MH/s. Otherwise please contact the support team and we have a look what is going on.

On a general note: We purchase hardware at discounted prices from manufacturers. As much as we would like to magically upgrade everyone's hardware, this is unfortunately not possible. So basically it is the same situation as if you purchase the hardware in a shop and mine at home. In contrast to a shop we are trying at least to mitigate the effect between price changes.

Regarding question about X11: yes, we plan to offer something soon.

Cheers, Marco (mk)

Marco, you are not in the hardware sales business - you are a service provider.  I have a contract (actually three) which says exactly what the terms are, and you are perfectly within your rights to stick to the letter of the contract.  On the other hand, as a service business, GM will live or die on its reputation.  The way things stand every single contract in the past, and certainly every contract you make in the near future will expire with negative returns.  You may not admit this publicly, but I am sure you are an intelligent fellow and you can see what the numbers are.  I am not saying that exploding scrypt mining difficulty is your fault, but having dozens or hundreds of pissed-off customers telling everybody who will listen to stay away from GM is surely not in your best interests if you truly want to build a long-term business.  Not only is it annoying for us customers to lose money, but ultimately it is dangerous for the survival of GM.  You say GM is operating on a tight margin and cannot afford to upgrade 'old' contracts.  But you are also boasting about opening a huge new data center in Europe.  I think this does not come cheap.  Maybe you should think about re-balancing your priorities.  Better for your long term business survival to expand a little more slowly and gain a reputation for doing the utmost to look after your customers.

I have made this suggestion before, and I am making it again.  Make it your policy to upgrade EVERY customer by a meaningful amount when you drop hash prices.  If that means fewer data centers and a few more years before you buy your megayacht then it is a small price to pay for survival.

BTC difficulty increase so need re-investment continuously.
SCRYPT loosing profitability and difficulty will also be increased because of new asics.

"There is no light in tunnel." Hope i will be wrong. Undecided

You are not wrong, unfortunately.  None of us with GM contracts will make our investments back.  Any investor who buys a GM contract right now needs their head examining - you will lose money for sure.  If you invest now you are betting that difficulty will remain the same or increase slowly.  And pigs may fly.  The reality is that we have seen nothing yet.  Difficulty is about to REALLY explode.  Look what happened when ASICs hit SHA-256 mining.  The same is about to happen with scrypt.  We are right on the edge of the cliff.  I know I lost most of my investment in GM - my fault, I should have known better -  but if you have not yet taken the plunge STAY OUT for your own good!

Great news and thanks for the bonus hash power. You are doing a great job by passing on the benefit to old customers whenever you are slashing your prices down.

Use code UMANO_17 for 3% discount.
They are not passing on the benefit to old customers.  I am two months into a 12 month contract - am I an 'old' customer?  But I am excluded from the upgrade.

All you people who have just 'benefited' from the latest price drop and upgrades need to know what to expect because I know you are all, like vaisajne, feeling like you just got a great bargain.  I felt the same way two months ago when I bought my first GM contract and had it almost immediately upgraded from 4 to 9 MH/s - just like what happened last week.  That inspired me to buy another larger contract a week after the first one - I now have 59MH/s.  It felt great to have all this money coming in day after day.  I always understood that the rate of returns would drop off, but what I was not prepared for was the RATE at which they would drop off.  To put it simply the payout in BTC is roughly halving every month.  After two months I am getting less than a quarter the payout I was getting when I started.  GM announced last week that they will be bringing online a new datacenter and new ASICs.  Undoubtedly there will be much competition in the space for the foreseeable future.  I believe we can expect the monthly halving of returns to continue for some time.  I am not even going to come close to breaking even.  If I get back more than 50% of the BTC I invested  I will consider myself lucky.

Here is another chart.  It shows my accumulated GM payouts in pink.  The black line is an exponential which shows the break-even level.  If the pink line is above the black line I will make a profit at the end of the contract.

I know my opinions may not be popular with people who have just bought contracts (you will be in denial), but I am really talking to people who are on the fence, about to commit.  Think again - you will probably only get half your BTC back.  I am not saying GM is a scam.  I am just saying that the reality is that under present conditions their business model is uneconomic for us customers.  GM have stated very clearly that they will not be upgrading 'old' customers like me, so basically everybody who has a GM contract is going to lose money, at least until the network hashrate stabilises some time way in the future.  The only people who are going to make money are GM.

All you people who are feeling smug about the 'free' upgrade you just got - you will be feeling like me in a month or two when history repeats itself - and even worse when your contract expires and you have lost half your BTC.

If the rate of returns suddenly improves and I turn out to be full of BS I will not only have egg on my face - I will also have a big smile on my face!  I have 18 BTC in the game.

The same thing happened to me. I doubt anyone get the money back. If someone is more than four months to Genesis and can pass their experience of profitability would be great for the community.
thank you.

Hmmm - interesting question.  I have only been with GM since May 10 but I can have a stab at answering your question.  I already have a chart of GM output back to February 21.  This is deduced from payouts to bitcoin addresses on the blockchain.  Most useful is 1FMDZFPohTpLy4RZsWhum9dRKBnANbTXF which started receiving payouts on February 21 2014 when there appear to have only been five users.  It seems to have been a GM test account because on May 5 it stopped receiving and sent all the earnings to 1ATRmyPxNqpFgcn8Dna31F5BkKP4sPAQhW  which is a GM address.  Of course I don't know how many MH/s was associated with this account but by comparing my received payments with other receiving addresses I have been able to calibrate it.  This is the chart going back to February 21:

The pink line is my own data.  The yellow is 1FMDZFPohTpLy4RZsWhum9dRKBnANbTXF and the blue is 1Bg6P6Ve2WVtiqBS8YEKZjPK71QQvcpBMs which overlaps my data and the other set.

Clearly prior to May there was a lot more up and down, but since then it has just been down all the way.

To answer your question we need to guess what a GM contract would have cost on February 21.  I bought a 5MH/s contract on May 10 for 3.43467 BTC (I was upgraded to 9MH/s a few days later).  The price of BTC on that day was about $453.  If GM contract prices (in dollars) were the same Between Feb 21 and May 10 I am guessing the cost of 5MH/s would have been around 2.75 BTC because the price of BTC was about $565.

Taking all the payouts since February 21 until today a 5MH/s contract would have earned 2.17 BTC which is 79% of the original cost.  Extrapolating the current trend in payouts I reckon a 5MH/s contract will take a further 0.137 BTC from now until Feb 21 2015.  This, of course, is conjecture but it is based on the observed figures.

It is clear to me that if GM had continued to perform in a similar way to how it was from February to May it is quite likely that it would have been profitable, but it is what it is.  Since May it has just gone through the floor.  It seems highly likely that all GM contracts, including ones started as far back as February, will all expire losing BTC.  If you calculate in dollars you might not see a loss if the price of BTC explodes, but personally I am only interested in the ROI in BTC.

I voted YES.  Reasons being:

1. I want to see a product sooner rather than later.

2. It is apparent that the SWARM developers would prefer a YES vote and I believe they will serve my interests better if they can follow their preferred plan

3. I understand that another vote will take place before a further funding round takes place or the remaining SwarmPre is distributed.

Not looking very good for me either.. with 48MH/s i'm getting around 0,05-0,06 BTC/day.. amount of mined BTC was 50% bigger few days ago..
I seems not so good for any member. I hope it will increase shortly.

Payment today with ~48MH/s was 0,03976781 BTC.. amount of mined BTC is droping constantly..

Here is today's payout on my chart:

If it flat-lines from today (averages today's payout for the next ten months) I will just about break even.  Reality: it has dropped by about 75% in the last two months and shows little sign of turning back up.  Being realistic, this is almost certainly going to be a loser - the only question is how much.  My latest estimate is at least 35% loss by end of contract.  That estimate is based on this exponential decay curve:

I hope somebody can convince me I am wrong.

I think the situation will change again after the uncertainty around BTC has cleared. A lot of people are staring right now at BTC & expect a sharp rise of price. After this period is over the high valued BTC will flow again in the altcoinmarket.

I have also a contract at Genesis Mining since beginning of May and my ROI in BTC is 44% now. I am confident that my investment will prosper in the next 11 month. Genesis Mining is doing a great job. I also have a contract at cloudhasing - this is a disaster.

I like Genesis Mining. Their product is good.

That's odd.  I have received only 30% of my BTC investment back since May 10th.  What date did your contract start?

Every night, when i am receiving the email of payout  i wish to see an increase but...... Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed

Down...and down.......

Sorry, but you will have to get used to it.  I have been with GM since May 10th and this is how it has been to date:

The half life is about a month.  If it continues like this we will not make our investments back.  It could turn around, but don't bank on it.  To all new users please take my advice - don't risk money you can't afford to lose.  You have been warned.  I will continue to report if anyone is interested.

Totally agree. We invest some money having in mind the risk. I am not expecting to get rich but it was nice thoese 3-4 days (20/6 - 22/6) when the payouts were double. Tongue

From the other hand if BTC keeps increasing the ROI will be sooner Smiley

If you measure your ROI in dollars it doesn't look so bad, but I paid GM in BTC and I am only interested in the returns denominated in BTC.

I have my mining set to 100% bitcoin payouts, but I would like to see a daily beak down of what coins were mined, and at what exchange rate they were converted to bitcoin for the payout.  As things stand there is no transparency in the mining process at GM.

Bought 38 more mh/s Wink Now have total of 48 mh/s Smiley Hope it will be worth it

the last payment was around $ 0.72 per MH/s. You may never recover the investment, the difficulty keeps increasing so rapidly.

Unfortunately you might be right.  Here is the updated chart of my returns in mBTC per mH/s since I started with GM on May 10th:

Here is the same data in context with previous returns since February (derived from payments made to other users and publicly available on the blockchain):

Could the trend reverse in time to get a positive ROI?  I suppose, but there are going to be a lot of new ASICS coming on stream this year.  At the moment my best guess from extrapolating the trend shows the ROI about minus thirty percent by contract expiry.  If somebody can put a positive spin on the data I would love to hear from you!
