1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On Wednesday, Bitcoin was less volatile than US Dollar. on: July 15, 2011, 12:34:33 AM
Maybe I am wrong but if the USD loses .5% of its value and BTC exchange for the same number of USD, hasn't the BTC lost .5% of its value? If BTC maintained its value wouldn't BTC be worth .5% more USD than before? I don't see how anything can be priced independently of anything else as price is relative? Everything that can be bought is dependent on everything else that can be bought with that "currency" to determine its relative value I would think.

It seems to me that BTC either lost value, or the exchange value hasn't been adjusted due to exchange friction.

I would be willing to sell newegg products for a reasonable premium in the near future, much less than the 15(?)% charged by these websites.

4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's dependancy on physical currency on: July 12, 2011, 03:04:02 PM
Bitcoin will only be dependent on physical currencies until it is accepted by a large enough group of people at each level of production. When you can buy raw materials, pay workers, ship goods, buy wholesale and retail, advertise etc. at reasonable prices with bitcoin in a majority of major markets bitcoin will no longer be dependent on physical currencies.

Until then the need to convert back and forth is just another frictional expense that needs to be accounted for.

Would there be interest in buying Amazon and Newegg type items for slightly over their prices (3% for example) similar to precious metals?

I am slightly surprised there is not yet a good way to exchange precious metals for BTC.

What do you consider to be slightly over spot (percentage maybe) ? Would you want to hold the metal yourself, or would you want to buy a share of a fund?

silver, gold, platinum, palladium.

What would you pay for these?

Hookers are tangible services (you don't get to keep them).

skadoosh00 I would think the showing off would be worth 5 minutes.

If infrastructure were in place such that bitcoins could be exchanged similar to a credit card transaction, or payable by phone, how long does it take for an exchange of BTC to clear?

HOOKERS!

Mostly curious about tangible goods rather than services.

EDIT: Also, preferably not illegal goods.

What would you like to be able to buy with bitcoins, and what would you pay for it?
