1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MINT] Mintcoin Developer Releases Social Assets to the Community on: July 21, 2014, 07:29:55 AM
Well this is all quite some news to come back to after a weekend away camping. I feel like a bit of a fool for constantly reassuring people about the premine - I hope that the designated money at least was sent out to the right places. At least I was right about the addresses though - if anyone wants to check, the main premine wallet mentioned in the statement was cleaned out on the 17th July - http://mint.blockexplorer.cc/address/MqVUub5WagCPXrgC1ARFFKfzxbNFBebnjm - so this was a very recent thing.

I look forward to having someone as committed as cryptomommy at the helm now, and it seems that the markets are responding positively to the news too - a lot of decent buy orders coming in, and looks like we'll be back up to 5 sats today.

David's always been involved with more than one coin and right now he seems to be putting quite a bit of time into Monero (really worth checking out - it's going to out compete any of the other 'anon' coins). I was a bit worried about the lack of news too, but I heard from cyrptomommy today that he's still pushing the fund through the final stages

Well, it's been over 6 weeks. We've all been patiently waiting for the reason why. Care to share?

I agree - most of us here practice what I consider to be extreme patience. Patience is all well and good, but it would seem that you think we are all "saints" here (as in, "the patience of a...").

I posted a question directed to David Latapie back on July 8:

Hey David - any updates on the progress of the NGO?

After no response for a while, I noticed that he was participating as part of the dev team of another coin, so it's not like he's not been around:

Seems David may be a little busy on a new coin: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=678849.msg7695761#msg7695761

While there is nothing wrong with David being involved elsewhere, it does seem a little odd, and maybe somewhat disturbing, that he did not take the time to respond. Maybe he just didn't check this thread, I didn't PM him. But with what he is supposedly doing with the NGO, I would think he'd be somewhat interested in what's going on with MintCoin.

Yes - I would really like some sort of an update... please.

David's always been involved with more than one coin and right now he seems to be putting quite a bit of time into Monero (really worth checking out - it's going to out-compete any of the other 'anon' coins). I was a bit worried about the lack of news too, but I heard from cyrptomommy today that he's working on the fund as we speak. Before he left for Brasil, he said that he would check back when he had news, so we're back to the issue of legal stuff taking time. I don't blame him for not coming back to update us on the lack of news until it's all finalised, and I don't imagine that the NGO stuff is all hands-on so it's reasonable to assume that he has spare time to work on other projects while it's going through.

But yeah, it's been a while and we're saints for waiting - just gotta hope that it's coming soon (in real world time, not cryptocurrency time)

No refer to my post point number 2. Developers are the ones to take these coins above the initial hump. Just reality, many ppl just dont see it.

I disagree - it takes a community effort as well as the devs to get things going, and the devs did a hell of a lot to get the coin over the initial hump.

Your post number 2 is invalid. As I stated  - a good proportion of the premine has already been used. Just because you thought that the bounty for the android wallet wasn't enough, Papsi clearly though that it was. The wallet will be out soon and I'd rather that it was slightly delayed and not released with any bugs.

You really need to try harder at this whole FUD thing.

The pos interest is 20%, but the dump is 500%+, even more.

What? I'm not sure what that means - are we in negative figures now?

Not dead. Just drowning.

Like I said the first days it was released there are a few things it needs to grow.

1) Get rid of the premine. Noone will invest with it. U cant justify it for me. As an investor the owner thinks he knows better by holding billions.

2) If you insist on premine.. be liberal on giving to developers. By being cheap the owner and hence the stakeholders of this coin become cornered into the last step.

3) real development. pos is only the door.

The premine isn't "billions." The amount was announced before. And it has been being used to reward developers and those who help the coin. I can personally confirm this.

Sorry 0.7 billion and read point 2 you didnt get it.

Check the information about the premine (http://mintcoin.cc/news-room/). What exactly do you count as cheap? To date, of the 0.7bn coins, 0.116bn (if you insist on using that fraction) have been allocated or already spent on development or promotion, and that doesn't count the most recent bounties for the tipbot or banners.

Also bear in mind that this coin is still only a few months old and that the major development are still to come. This is a long term coin, do not expect the whole of the premine to be blown in the first half year - the fact that around 17% has been spent/allocated already is anything but cheap.

In comparison VeriCoin on mintpal has a $1783021 - 3167BTC 24hr volume  Cool

But if everything is still going as planned even a high volume like that is in reach for mintcoin!

I'm kinda surprise that the price actually went down a little after the pre-mined announcement. It's not much but it's something.

I'm not sure that the two are related - we're always hovering between 5-7 sats now so it's probably a coincidence Plus that info was already out on here and on reddit. Maybe a few people selling off because they're impatient for 'big news'

it has been a long time, nothing has came out, big news just seems stunt.

Time passes quickly in the cryptocurrency world, and with the whiff of news to come a couple of weeks back (from a premature tweet I think), people are impatient for results. The problem is that Mintcoin is also trying to integrate into the real world in a very legitimate way. Things like setting up an NGO take time and it has to be slowed down to lawyer pace. David told us a couple of weeks back that the final draft of the bylaws for the Mintcoinfund were about to be sent off and he would report back when he had news, and that it may take several weeks to be finalised.

Whatever else the mintcointeam has planned, we will just have to be similarly patient. Those members of the extended dev team who do know what it is were thoroughly excited when they found out and described it as an ambitious plan. I'd rather hang around a wait for something genuinely innovative than just chase whatever the latest altcoin fad is.

If this news is true I could tell my friends about it and invest some.
But I dont want to lead them to a bad investment.
However I do believe the mintcoin team is working hard, and putting something good togheter for the coin.
So I'll probably buy some coins again and maybe tell my friends to buy some to.
Because I dont understand why more people dont see the environment saving features, and the price is so low again.
Maybe because of the premine, But I believe they are not spending it and using it for good projects later in the game.

People have commented about the lack of presence of the devs. When they announced the foundation, they said that it would take about a month to get it fully registered. That was about a month ago. We've had hints that its progressing nicely, it feels like there's some big news to come soon as a result.

I had a good look into the premine and as a result, bought a whole load more mint today at 4 sats. They've always said that it was for long term projects, they didn't just dump it an run like some have suggested.

If you really think about all this anonymity issue with all the current altcoins, it's only ever going to be anonymous if you never ever exchange your altcoins into fiat. The way it is now, if I want to buy something from any of the retail locations using an altcoin, or a BTC for that matter, it is pretty much as anonymous as it's going to get, other than the ship to address you're going to have to supply to get your purchase.

If there was total anonymity regarding trading/buying of altcoins or BTC, when it came time to exchange it for Fiat, your anonymity will be lost, as there is no exchanges that will exchange altcoins or BTC for Fiat, without you providing verification of your identity.

These current altcoins and all the hype about anonymity is just that...hype...trying to garner the BTC from people who do not understand the facts behind altcoins and BTC.

If we as Mintcoin holders, or even any altcoin holder truly want any of these coins to succeed as a true and viable currency, then we have to get them accepted by much more than just a few online retailers.

Have a look at http://keepod.org/ this is a very interesting concept, and they have already crowdfunded over 1.5 Million dollars to create these USB drives that are going to be given out all over Africa. It is an Android based device and will most likely be VERY BIG. There is already talk of a Bitcoin wallet being included with each one, as well as a small amount of BTC included as well. Think of the exposure as well as the real life use, Mintcoin would get if it also had an Android wallet included with each of these USB devices, and also some Mintcoins.

If the developer were to contact Keepod.org and say he would contribute 100 to 200 MILLION of the premine to this, then there would be a real good increase in real world usage of Mintcoin, as the people in Africa that were given the USB device with a Mintcoin Android wallet loaded up with a fair amount of coins, would most definitely begin to use them as a true and viable currency amongst themselves, and this would get real world attention.

I think that the keepod is a great idea, but this is definitely one that the devs need to step in on, and the mintcoin fund is something that lends credibility to Mint for doing something like this.

I agree with you that anon is not the way to go with mint - I think that it's better to focus on getting retailers in involved, and on the charitable/eco aspects of the coin. Associating mint with anonymous transactions and darksend etc would not help with that
