1  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Do you think you were scammed by GAW? Tell Ars Technica on: January 14, 2015, 01:22:10 PM
A little late to the party, but I'm going to add my experience (not gut feelings, guesses, etc.).

I became a customer of GAW in March, 2014 because they were a US company, had an active BCT presence, and offered free shipping and good prices.

I bought a couple Gridseed Blades right before the prices starting dropping.

 - GAW gave a rebate to their customers to compensate for the price drop.

I pre-ordered Zeus miners from GAW (rather than directly from Zeus or any other supplier), because I had good experience with them from the GSB purchase and I wanted to deal with a local company rather than taking my chance on a pre-order from China.

- Before the miners even arrived, I received free Raspberry PI controllers, with pre-installed cloud management software
- The miners arrived within two days of expected delivery.
- When it was discovered that Zeus significantly underestimated the power/performance of the miners, I returned the Zeus miners for a full refund.
- I exchanged the Zeus miners for an Innosilicon A2, and I was compensated in BTC for the downtime!

As LTC difficulty increased, and home mining became harder to maintain, I bought into GAW's cloud hashlet mining service as soon as it was announced.

- For the same cost of what I paid in power for my home miners, I was able to get better mining returns with a completely hosted Hashlet without having to worry about noise, heat, or breaking components.

There's more to say, but I want to wrap it up with this. Do I get frustrated at hype, marketing, and delays? Sure. But I didn't base my decision to stay a customer and adopter of Paycoin on hype... I based it on my experience with Josh and GAW. My experience has been that they will fight to do what's right for their customers, even at great expense to themselves.

If consistently going above and beyond the rest of the industry to provide value to customers and the community is a "scam", we can only hope that GAW continues such a "shady" business practice.

Edit (01/30/15): I can no longer, in good conscience, leave this post standing. All of the above *was* true pre-Paycoin. I didn't even have a problem with the virtual mining model of Hashlets. But things changed dramatically with Paycoin. I have seen no evidence that leads me to believe that any of the things proposed for Hashpoints and Paycoin were anything much beyond a concept in the mind of the CEO. At some point a couple weeks ago, my pragmatism overcame my optimism, and I was forced to admit that I was among the deluded. My hat is off to those who saw it earlier. Now, I'm off to find myself a crow sandwich...
2  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GAW Miners (Scrypt ASIC seller) independent feedback thread on: June 10, 2014, 02:02:51 PM
Since I haven't seen anyone else post their experiences with returns, I'm going to add mine.

First, let me say that I still believe that GAW has gone above and beyond in most cases and will probably come out of this as one of the most reputable mining hardware dealers. Pre-sale customer service was terrific and hardware was delivered very close to when it was promised.

But... post-sale care has some issues to work out. From what I can tell, returns and exchanges need to get Josh's direct approval and since he is tied up with so many other things, the back-and-forth communications take days between responses.

I won't fill this up with the details of the email exchanges. All of them have been very cordial, and there have many, but there are some things that I would caution others about:

1. I never was able to get an actual RMA, except for the email note from Amanda saying that it was okay, which I got after I notified GAW that I had already shipped them out.

2. GAW has had the returned Falcons for almost a week, and I have neither replacement equipment, store credit, nor full refund.
I have been trying to figure out some equitable exchange or return, since I am no longer interested in Zeus-produced equipment. Originally, I requested credit towards the purchase of an A2, but they have since disappeared from the site, the Gridseed delivery dates keep getting pushed back, and the S2 is there for show I guess, since there's no link to either order or pre-order.

3. I do believe that they will make good on their warranty/guarantee, but as it stands today, they have my pre-payment in full for Week One miners and I've got nothing.

IMO, this is mainly a result of delays in communication resulting from needing approval from the top, and could probably be solved by giving the customer service folks the authority to accept returns and issue refunds or exchanges. I appreciate that Josh has been offering to let people email him directly in order to solve problems, but as a business owner, I'm sure he understands that empowering his employees to solve the problems directly is a more scalable solution and leads to better, faster customer service.

Last, there needs to be a better process for RMA. Immediate issuing of RMA numbers, mailing details, and instructions. And when the units arrive at GAW, the customer needs to be notified that they have been received, when they've been accepted, and when they can expect a refund.

Update (07/12/14): Sometime overnight, a credit was posted to my account. (Which I hope to apply to some non-Zeus hardware in the near future.)

Largest one I had was a 1000W. But I don't trust it to hold out very long. (And I've blown up a couple doing GPU mining, so I'm hesitant to push it too far.)

The good news:
 - my Falcons arrived
 - upon plugging in the falcon to the zenminer that I had registered a few days ago, it detected and starting hashing (clevermining)
 - the pool-side hashrate is the advertised 27 MH/s

The bad news:
 - one Falcon is louder than three Gridseed Blades

The really bad news:
 - 1137 W (9.87 A) at the wall
 - the PSU is working hard and getting pretty hot
 - the PCI-E wires are very warm and the insulation is starting to get soft after about 10 mins

As much as I hate to do it, I've taken it down already. I can live with the noise, but if the power consumption doesn't decrease *significantly* with the promised firmware update, it's going to be a big issue.

New user, first post here.

Boxes have started arriving in the mail, and I just wanted to give some major kudos to GAW and Josh in particular. We took a gamble on you for this pre-order business but I'm starting to breathe much easier now. GAW has delivered on absolutely everything they've promised, and much, much more.
- store credit to compensate for Gridseed price drop
- next day, free shipping on product launch
- non-stop engagement on this forum by Josh, keeping us informed and answering questions and concerns
- excellent response to customer service inquiries
- free zenminer controllers

Oh. My. GAW.

Seriously. I just keep getting more than I ever expected.

And I'm sure I'm missing some. This level of customer service (especially in this particular business) is unprecedented, and I have to believe that this product launch is a loss-leader when everything is tallied. BUT... GAW has made a loyal customer here, and probably many more.

Whatever the mining future holds, I can't wait to see GAW play a major role in it.  Keep up the great work.
