Yet another thread where someone doesn't grasp how vaccination works, how viruses mutate, and how exponential progression works in the context of a pandemic. I'm not sure whether or not the misunderstandings are deliberate.

This sums it up, really. No need to look any further, or to engage with the content. With such a 'witty' nom de guerre, how could we fail to take the article seriously?  Roll Eyes

2  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-09-24] China Says All Crypto-Related Transactions Are Illegal on: September 24, 2021, 05:53:24 PM
China’s central bank said all cryptocurrency-related transactions are illegal and must be banned, sending the strongest signal yet on its determination to crack down on the industry. All cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Tether, are not fiat currency and cannot be circulated on the market, the People’s Bank of China said on its website. All crypto-related transactions, including services provided by offshore exchanges to domestic residents, are illicit financial activities, the PBOC said in the statement.

This latest harsh directive, which sent Bitcoin dropping as much as 5.5% on Friday, comes as global markets grow increasingly concerned over a debt crisis involving property developer China Evergrande Group. The Chinese government may also be responding to signs that miners are disguising their activities to stay in business. Vijay Ayyar, head of Asia Pacific with cryptocurrency exchange Luno in Singapore, said that while the Chinese government has made similar statements in the past, it is "a slightly nervous environment for crypto with the recent SEC comments and overall macro environment with the Evergrande news. So any comments of this nature will cause a sell-of in risky assets."

The nation's economic planning agency also said it is an urgent task for China to root out crypto mining, and the crackdown is important to meet carbon goals. Investors should expect "knee-jerk price reaction as China takes the wind out of Bitcoin's sails," said Antoni Trenchev, co-founder of crypto lender Nexo.  "The recent rebound from just below $40,000 has likely run its course for now."

Yea, right.
That's why crypto coin prices are tumbling down, BTC is currently at 41945 usd.
"must be banned"! We'll see!

Oregon Police and Firefighters Sue Governor Over COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate

BY TOM OZIMEK September 4, 2021 Updated: September 4, 2021

A coalition of Oregon police officers and firefighters have sued Gov. Kate Brown over a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for state employees.

The plaintiffs—including the Oregon Fraternal Order of Police and the Kingsley Firefighters Association—argued in a lawsuit filed Friday in a Jefferson County court (pdf) that Brown’s executive order violates a number of laws and want it blocked.

“Plaintiffs seek an order declaring EO No. 21-29 is unenforceable because it conflicts with Oregon statutes, would result in a common law wrongful discharge of the Plaintiffs, conflicts with the Oregon Constitution’s guarantee of free expression, and conflicts with the United States Constitution guarantee of equal protection, free exercise, and due process,” the complaint states.

Brown issued an executive order (pdf) on Aug. 13 that imposed a mandatory vaccine requirement on all executive branch employees. In the order, Brown said that, to date, around 70 percent of the state’s executive branch employees had taken the vaccine voluntarily, prompted in part by state efforts like organizing onsite vaccine clinics and financial incentives.

Citing the rise in COVID-19 infections and noting that both private and public employers across the United States have imposed mandates, Brown said it was time for tougher measures in Oregon.

“With the Delta variant raging in Oregon, with the state’s ability to fully return to in-person work continuing to be hampered by the risks from COVID-19, having implemented a series of incentives aimed at achieving voluntary compliance, and with full FDA approval of the COVID-19 vaccine expected within weeks, the time has come for any remaining state employees and those who work alongside them in state government to get vaccinated,” she wrote in the order.

Ten days after Brown’s order, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave full regulatory approval to the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

The order gives Oregon state workers until Oct. 18 to provide proof of vaccination or face consequences that could include dismissal.

The plaintiffs argued in the complaint that enforcement of the order would result in wrongful termination, and they have asked the court to declare it unlawful and block its enforcement.

“The individual plaintiffs are Executive Branch employees … who want to exercise control over their own medical treatment and are being forced to choose between their rights privileges and liberties as citizens on the one hand and their employment, careers, and financial futures on the other,” the complaint states.

The Epoch Times has reached out to the governor’s office for comment on the suit.

Brown’s spokesperson Liz Merah defended the executive order in a statement to The Associated Press.

“Given the seriousness of the situation, employer vaccine requirements have become an important tool, and state government plays a part. It’s critical to protect state workers, workplaces, and facilities, as well as members of the public who use state services,” she told the outlet.

The lawsuit comes as Oregon has faced a sharp rise in COVID-19 infections in recent weeks, with a seven-day average of 2,222 daily cases on Sept. 2, compared to fewer than 500 in mid-July, according to state health authorities.

Israel's 'Coronavirus Czar' Tells Citizens To Prepare For Eventual 4th Shot

As we've been detailing of late, the goalposts in ultra-vaxxed Israel keep perpetually moving after health authorities' recent initiative to demand all citizens get a third COVID jab. This even as this past week witnessed the small Mediterranean country reach yet more daily case records.

Despite the WHO coming out against countries giving their populations booster shots at this point, Israel has as of Friday issued a third dose to 2.5 million Israelis. Given the likelihood that this too will fail to blunt the growing numbers of infections, naturally the question is: so what next?

You can't make this up, health authorities are providing this "answer": "Israel’s national coronavirus czar on Saturday called for the country to begin making preparations to eventually administer fourth doses of the coronavirus vaccine," The Times of Israel reports.

The 'coronavirus czar', Professor Salman Zarka made the statements to Kan national broadcaster:

"Given that that the virus is here and will continue to be here, we also need to prepare for a fourth injection."

As if bluntly admitting that the country will continue with the very simplistic strategy of 'throwing more shots' at the problem, Zarka added, "This is our life from now on, in waves."

This also all but ensures that the controversial "Green Pass" system will also likely continue expanding and being "updated" indefinitely. Already authorities have said that this form of a 'vaccine passport' which gives the holder entry to specified public venues like restaurants, gyms, and publish worship spaces, is subject to expiration depending on if the holder received their second or third dose of the vaccine.

Israel daily new cases
Now Israelis can look forward to a "pass" that will be dependent on getting a fourth vaccine.

Presumably if a forth jab is in the works, the Green Pass will at the same time eventually be voided for people only on their third dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Unvaccinated after two doses? Israel was also the first to start talking openly about the "pandemic of the vaxxed"...

Given the pass is good for six months since the last jab, this means Israelis might be ordered to get a fourth shot in a mere half-year... and on and on it will go, apparently.

We give it a mere months if not weeks before officials start floating a 5th future shot, or even a 6th. There will be no end.

In the case of coinbase, they require the user's phone number and I find that bizarre considering the purpose of a crypto wallet. I'll try blockchain it's been around since the beginning.

It has been around since the beginning but that doesn't make it safe to use, online wallets are far from being a good choice.

Totally agreed. I didn't have the time to look at blockchain yet but since it is an online custodial service and not a real wallet, I won't bother with it. It's like a bank, might use your money as they like, including stealing it like mtgox.com.

No online "wallets", that makes sense. Not comfortable with a hardware wallet because it might be stolen, lost, etc.

A desktop/mobile software wallet, that is the deal.

Hi!

This wallet thing is way too confusing for a newbie like me..

One simple question: Best free BTC wallet for a beginner that works both on desktop and mobile?

Thanks in advance!

there is no good answer here. something that is best for me does not mean that it will be good for you, and vice versa.
when I started with cryptocurrencies, nine years ago, I started with blockchain.info (now blockchain.com) and a little later with Coinbase. Both of them works on desktop and have their mobile app I think for both, android and for iOS.
that's if it means anything to you, they've been working for years, it could be a recommendation but nothing is certain and no one will care about your money except you.

Thanks!

That "wallet thing" is actually a storage of private keys that has the capability to spend coins from the blockchain which is stored in each of the full nodes.
The security is up to your capability, OS, etc. (and the wallet software of course).

"Other wallets" like Coinbase aren't in the list because those are not actually wallets but a custodial service where that company is the actual hodler of your coins.
This time, they are the ones that will protect your coins and all you have to keep safe is your account and password.

One simple question: Best free BTC wallet for a beginner that works both on desktop and mobile?
There's already a list in the OP that have entries for both Android, IOS and Desktop.
Based from what I've said above about custodial wallets, as long as both wallets contain the same private keys, they'll work simultaneously without issues even if it's not the same wallet.
You can achieve that by restoring the wallet's backup (usually a 12/24-word phrase) to the other, but some aren't compatible.

Note: Given that you want to use it in both platforms and will contain the same keys, if one was compromised, the other will be as well.

TL;DR
One simple answer: By looking at your other post, wallets do not contain free bitcoins even in the early days of Bitcoin,
most wallets are free to use and I don't think there are any "pay-to-use Bitcoin wallets".
Do an extensive research about "custodial wallets" and after you gained confidence, you can now use that wallet.
Here's the board for wallet software where you can ask questions: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=37.0

Thank you for your thorough reply!
All I wanted to say is there are too many wallets to choose from, and being new to crypto, I want to open a wallet that is relatively easy to use ant that is secure compared to other available counterparts.

I remember back in the days somebody who was given bitcoin as gift so that he would use a wallet or a miner, It was a couple years back, i can't remember exactly what it was.
