1  Bitcoin / Armory / Armory Tx failures; BTC Core stuck on (corrupt?) block 378056. on: December 17, 2015, 07:20:27 AM
Hi there,
After a long period w/out using BTC what so ever, i found my blockchain had become corrupt and in a way I didn't understand.
So, i re-scanned/synced the lot again - seemingly without any errors according to Armory everything seems OK, however, whenever no transaction would finalise, in fact after Select rcpt address/amnt > confirm TX >enter passphrase > The window would immediately close, giving zero feedback and take me back to the original Send Tx window, only exception being when i entered my pass-phrase incorrectly, in which case i re-enter it to be sure, and get the same non-result, back to original Send Tx screen. At least  security and basic functionality was intact, which lessened the stress, but i was puzzled.
Frustrated, I took a Ticket with Armory Tech and through in my debug. It seems the actual Core client never fully updated and was stuck on Block 378056! Though Armory didn't detect and report and problems, except in debug.log of course.
So, now i'm using my QT and restarting the BC dload again, now knowing the problem was block 378056 (emitted on October 8th).
Is it possible to speed this up?? e.g Let the QT sync up to block ~378056 and then just c/paste the rest of the blocks from backup, post 378056 (assuming they aren't also corrupt) into my .bitcoin/blocks directory? Is this possible? I can't see why not, yet i'm a solid novice. Correlating blocks/datab maybe problematic?

Alternatively, is there another way or client (I've only ever used Core & Armory) where i can just drop the relevant wallet.dat into that doesn't require a local copy of BC? as another 'quicker' work around? I wonder if possible? As i understand (may be wrong) 'some' wallet.dat files are interoperable with a number of other (not all) clients?

Thanks for any help/hints everyone
Cheers,

PS: This shit always seems to happen when i need immediate access to coins or at end of a long period of sideways movement. Bloody limbo coins Smiley
2  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.93.1-beta upgr > failing rebuild/rescan. EDIT: Known BDM bug? on: April 08, 2015, 02:12:29 AM
OK, just to clarify i understand you.

Firstly download bootstrap.dat torrent > Then I’m not completely sure i understand this, 'use another instance of core to sync?' Do you mean using ./bitcoin-qt for example? And then allow Armory to rebuild/scan after after removing the broken blockchain dir data from Armory.

Thanks

Hey,
Carlton Banks: There does seems to be numerous cases of block headers referring to missing hashs. (see log below)

Just let me know if you need additional log files, and thanks again for taking the time to go through this with this me.

4  Bitcoin / Armory / Armory 0.93.1-beta upgrade > failing rebuild/rescan. EDIT: debug log included on: April 05, 2015, 09:13:01 AM
Hi everyone,
I'm having problems with Armory giving repeated scan/build errors, and showing incorrect balances and after recent upgrade.

--------------------------
-ERROR - 1428217001: (BDM_mainthread.cpp:429) BDM thread failed: The scanning process interrupted unexpectedly, Armory will now shutdown. If the error persists, you will have to rebuild and rescan your database. If rebuilding and rescaning did not fix the issue, contact support. Refer to your log file for more details on the error.
--------------------------

I've had this error twice now; i tried a rebuild and rescan as suggested, but unfortunately the error persists, hence asking for some support here. Debug log seems normal from my (limited) experience and will provide on request.
Ubuntu 14.04 / Bitcoin 0.9.3-linux / Armory 0.93.1-b (latest)

Any suggestions/ideas at all would be great.
Thanks

I stumbled upon these two Crypto accepting VPN providers today. And in case any of you weren't already aware, thought i'd share the info.

Private Internet Access (PIA):
- Known to many of you i'm sure (as per BCT paid adds). PIA accept Bitcoin only it seems. Can't be sure how long this has been an option, however I trialled their service approx 1-2 years ago and don't think it was available then.

https://www.privateinternetaccess.com

AirVPN:
- Cryptos accepted from ~Jan 2015? via CoinBase / BitPay
- Website claims list updates regularly.

Litecoin (LTC), Ripple (XRP), BlackCoin (BLK), CryptoBullion (CBX), Dash (DASH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Namecoin (NMC), Novacoin (NVC), Peercoin (PPC), Unobtanium (UNO).

Payment options visible near page end > https://airvpn.org/plans/
6  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Loss of BTC purchase pre wallet restoration? on: January 27, 2015, 12:15:09 AM
Ahh, I see. Looks like i jumped the gun on this. The blockchain is downloaded, but now Armory is building the db w/ several hours to go. As you pointed out, the client is in fact listed as being on block zero. I guess I freaked out after seeing the warning dialog box.
Thanks to your help, i'm confidant there won't be any probs once the db is built. I'll just wait and see how we go though.

Thanks for the help, mate  Grin
7  Bitcoin / Armory / Loss of BTC purchase pre wallet restoration? on: January 26, 2015, 01:54:51 PM
Hi,
I recently imported an old wallet from a seed key onto a new netbook with fresh install of Armory. The wallet initially had a zero balance, however while waiting for to the blockchain to download i decided to generate a new public key for a small buy due to price drop, assuming that once the blockchain was finaly competed and synced there would be no prob. Today i noticed a warning msg while using Armory, specifically warning against doing this. Now that im fully synced up the recently purchased bitcoin don't appear in the balance.
I've check the blockchain and my X.BTC are ofc there, just not showing w/ Armory balance.
What if anything can be done about this? I fear restoring the wallet again would 'destroy' the public key I have created?

Any help would be great.
Cheers, all.

EDIT: Armory ver 0.92.3-b

DRK and XC Communities,

The toxic back and forth between our two communities has reached a level with which neither of us are comfortable or impressed.  The competitive space for our coins lies in the results, and the results will speak for themselves as they are brought online.  Whatever mistakes or provocations were undertaken by either side are in the past, and we would like them to remain there.  We are all interested in one thing: the advancement of anonymous cryptocurrency.   Let go of the tribalism and start thinking of how you can positively contribute to that end.

Evan and Dan

I'll be checking out the link in a moment. Although PGP integration with the email provider isn't essential as I mentioned above, encrypting some of my communications is. I hadn't heard about this feature from gmail until now, seems hot off the press. Will be interested to see what they're doing.

Thanks for your your suggestion
12  Other / Off-topic / email service provider suggestions/reviews (w/optional pgp support) on: June 27, 2014, 03:44:00 AM
I've used hushmail in the past, both their free and premium, and i'm not at all dissatisfied with their service, but i would love some suggestions for alternate providers. PGP Integration would be nice, but it's not essential. Basically i'm just not sure if i should be happy trusting certain providers such as gmail (who i use) with their ability to 'read' my plain text messages (its not like i encrypt all my communications), even if it is for targeted advertising purposes.

Anyone with reviews and first hand experience, both positive/negative or any suggestions at all would be a great help.
thanks Smiley

Who cares let's get back to talking about DRK..

So we all update our clients, masternode payments start, once everything is rock solid we update again with full voting rules? Am I understanding correctly?

ie. Masternode payments will start soon without the danger of a failed fork?

That's pretty much the idea, see Evan's quote below taken from darkcointalk

Quote from: eduffield
...
We'll introduce an "enforcing" setting for masternode payments. This will be turned off at launch making it the equivalent of a soft fork, but will allow us to use the full infrastructure of the darkcoin network for testing. In the debug log, the system will complain when any issues arise and users can report such issues. After a period of time passes with no issues, we'll set a date to begin enforcing. At this time all issues should be dealt with so we'll have a much smoother launch.
