1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Capacitor repair on an Antminer S1 board? on: June 07, 2014, 10:53:38 PM
I recently received an S1 which is missing a cap from every pair. It looks like they were just never there. I still haven't heard back from bitmain yet. Does anyone know where we can purchase replacements? As close to these as possible is preferred.

It is very well possible these were 'NOPOPs',
parts that were not ment to be populated
on the board.

Sometimes after testing a design, it turns
out some parts can be omitted without
decreasing the performance of the circuit.
Parts are then not placed during production
in order to save a few bucks.

When the solder on the pads looks nice and
regular, there were never caps on that location.

I understand that, however this unit does not perform as intended, which is why I contacted bitmain. This unit runs quite well for a few hours then performance decreases to a seemingly arbitrary rate. I've had it perform anywhere from 9 to around 140 Gh/s. The only way for me to fix this is to cycle the power.

Where are you hosting the new hardware?

I was going to keep it in my garage.

yes, you wouldn't want an SP10 running in your house - unless you have good soundproofing.  Wink

Sound isn't horribly important. I'm aware of the SP10's loudness but I don't think it will matter. My garage is detached and insulated.

then I would wholeheartedly recommend the SP10.
I run mine in a garage (UK) and monthly electric cost on it is £106 @ 11.67p/kWh
I have them close to the back wall, which draws cool air through, it's a dank and dark atmosphere in the garage and perfect conditions - stable and hashing at ~1.47TH/s

Thanks for your input. Right now I'm locked in at a rate of US$0.055/kWh for the next year or so which should help a bit with the electrical costs. If it gets overly hot in my garage I can just turn on an AC but so far it hasn't been necessary.

Greetings all.

I'm still fairly new at mining but I have gotten my feet wet with 10 antminer S1s. I find it enjoyable and take pleasure in the planning and calculating.

I have a fresh infusion of cash and want to spend approx. $5000 USD on some new equipment. I'm just curious as to the what the community thinks would be a good buy at this point in time.

I was looking at the Spondoolies SP10 for one. Not sure if this is the best though.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
