1  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: mining on Antpool from Braiins on an S9j on: February 13, 2022, 05:31:56 PM
Hi there,

you definitely should reflash the image.
As i also do run some S9s pls believe me --> u dont want to go for stock bitmain firmware

Its like raping hardware for no reason except burning energy like u dont care.
I tried different firmwares for S9s and realized very quickly that even if there are Dev Fees to pay for runnin Braiins+ firm its so much more efficient in tweakin the chips that even 5% fee would make it the best choice

But a look at your logs are telling me that there are some strange bugs keeping your miner from starting successfully

It could be that some or all of the hash boards had been replaced and that herefore some special parameters needs to be reconfigured

But there are other reasons why u dont want to ramp up a used device that u bought online as it is:

*surprise* malicious changes in firmware, like:

-poisoned DNS --> it may relay all your shares over a proxy that your seller controls, which may steal a x % percentag of your shares he/she/they are submitting to a pool of their choice. they maybe wait for weeks/months before they slowly take action. Also that way its possible your router gets tricked in rerouting other interent traffic that way. Maybe session tokens of your social network login or mail or even banking sessions could be infiltrated

-reverse shell backdoor --> your miner is opening a backdoor for that guy and normally also informing the bad guy/girl every time your IP address changes or connection is reestablished about the new conn details. That way he/she is not only able to administer your miner but access every other device inside your home network like he/she sits next to you patched to your router via LAN cable

Its same like buying "used" smart-bulbs. There are hackers only buying a bunch of them to reflash them with malicious firmware and then hand it back to the dealer. The clueless dealer resells them to hopefully many individuals. And *baam*  they have direct access to every household that screws in such a bulb after they have it connected to the wifi.

If you dont believe me, see for yourself as there was a talk about it at 35c3 i attended live to:

https://youtu.be/DfsPnvf3INg

U see: U definetely want to reflash the device with a fresh and clean firmware

You can do that! If u need assistence please feel free to ask here or leave me a pn

So pls stay safe and have a nice day
