2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the study of Bitcoin, cryptocurrency and Blockchain technology called? on: May 26, 2024, 02:00:49 PM
Peter Todd refers to it as "Applied Cryptography".

Makes more sense and sound like a course that can be studied in any higher institution of learning.

*If the study of fish is called fishery, what is the study of Bitcoin or cryptocurrency in general and the study of Blockchain technology called?

The study of fish is called ichthyology, a fishery is a place where fish are caught or a place where commercial raising happens.
So first find the Latin or greek word for Bitcoin/Blockchain and slap an ology at the end!

I found out the Greek word for crypto means kryptos which means hidden, secret, or covered.

While in Latin, Solidus electronicus quidam, (qui Anglice dicitur “Bitcoin”) is the terminology used to describe or refer to a certain electronic coin which we know as Bitcoin in English language.

If I should add, "ology" behind, it would sound like "kyptology and also solidus electronics quidamology".
Making sense?
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What is the study of Bitcoin, cryptocurrency and Blockchain technology called? on: May 26, 2024, 01:04:52 PM
We know that if we want to learn the basics of cryptocurrency or seeking higher level knowledge for investing in and trading digital money, Udemy, Edx, Coursera are online sites that offer a wide variety of cryptocurrency training courses that can teach one on what needs to be known. Some others do exist that teach the subject of cryptocurrency and give users the opportunity to try out or test what they have learnt while gaining certification as a Certified Blockchain Professional (CBP) or certification as a Certified Blockchain Developer (CBD).
Another finding led me to discover that the University of Nicosia offers an MSc in Blockchain and Digital Currency and is notably among the first institution with such academic degree in this field and in the world.

*If the study of fish is called fishery, what is the study of Bitcoin, cryptocurrency in general and the study of Blockchain technology called?

5  Economy / Trading Discussion / Is it possible stable coins could have their own bank? on: May 26, 2024, 10:14:54 AM
Is it possible stable coins could have their own bank since they are backed by a country's currency like the U.S Dollar which they use to maintain a stable value?

Or also, knowing that stablecoins are different from cryptoassets which do not have assets as backings and are more volatile, will in the future, the success of stablecoins not call for something like a bank or a recognized office building built to show legalization and acceptance as a means of payments for transactions and services?
6  Economy / Economics / Re: Work From Home or The "Laptop Class" is Immoral or Not? on: May 26, 2024, 09:47:18 AM
Working from home became popular during the Covid-19 period when offices and companies had to shutdown operations while allowing their employees work from home using office tools that enable video calls for meetings and submitting of reports.

I don't think there's anything wrong in doing remote work or working from home, as long as the job description isn't of field operations or requiring one to do some lifting. For senior workers who can monitor work from anywhere in the world, working from home is a good solution to efficiency and productivity.
7  Economy / Economics / Re: Country and nation culture is the economic strenght of nation on: May 26, 2024, 07:55:57 AM
In times we are now people around the world looking for nation and country who they can trust and who has the role model reputation usa is first and UK are second.
Actually the opposite is happening. The world is de-Americanizing little by little as US regime keeps abusing everything, from the financial system to the international organizations like UN.
UK is not even counted as a significant country by the way.

Quote
Remember when Queen of UK was Alive it gives enourmous trust and confidence to people around the world and also to UK own people.
You seem to be stuck in about 100 years ago when it was the British Empire.
Today what you call UK is a tiny country that has no say on the global scale anymore. The days of colonizing are long gone. Even African nations are kicking them out. Today, England is at best a US colony itself that lives to serve United States regime.

That's not to mention that the world has gotten way past dictators that rule over them, people whose only inherited the position and are not suitable or legitimate for it. In today's world people want to elect their leaders not have them inherit the position just because they were born into it.

Quote
China is predicted to be powerful country but it can never be trusted as UK USA or russia or france
There is a lot of reasons not trust China but China has proven to be at least more trustworthy than others.
China has helped a lot of countries economy by lending them loans that could be hard to get from the world bank, but if these countries fail to repay they get overtaken by the Chinese who get to come in and take hold of whatever collateral that was on ground for the loan.

As for England and their current stand, I think they have a lot on their plate as concerns Brexit and the way it is affecting their economy.
A lot is happening fast and if I get to speak about China and their economy, it is their dedollarization plan which is the BRICS initiative that stands out as an economic solution in this regard.
8  Other / Meta / Re: Some people that left this forum recently on: May 24, 2024, 10:16:07 PM
Am sure many of those posters who we no longer see as much, are engaged perhaps in the altcoin talk forum that many of us ported our Bitcointalk accounts to or it could be that they have lost their access to their accounts or having health concerns or they are having any kind of the challenges that we may most times experience as beings.

If they are more active there and have joined campaigns that don't mind about the mixers subject, it could be a very good reason and in addition to the fact that evolution is happening here, therefore some will have to leave or pass through this forum, inorder for others to come onboard and benefit as much as they learn.
9  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Bitcoin pizza day gaining more relvance. on: May 24, 2024, 10:06:31 PM
...
With the stance of our government on cryptocurrency and trading, do you think it is safe to attend these kind of public events?
I was going to talk about the scare of government personnels crashing the event and maybe prosecuting the attendees, until I saw this question and must quip that it shows that with more participation and attention to such kind of Bitcoin events and seminars, the government will have no choice than to allow exchanges exist and even if cryptocurrency is regulated, it will be accepted as a recognized means for payments before or after transactions and services rendered.
10  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Undergoing of wider Crypto adoptors in our society. on: May 24, 2024, 09:56:35 PM
While I read through your story, it struck me that this young lady knew nothing or is ignorant of the governments current stand and case against cryptocurrencies and their users in this country.

This is a major reason why the government has to find a common ground in which crypto currency and our local Fiat coexist to the betterment of our society, because the fact remains that cryptocurrency is a sure currency of the future and as an adult currently, with some form of responsibility or the other, having the knowledge and tech-know-how of the functionality of exchanges, cryptocurrency and wallets, sets us apart or should I say makes us measure up with the younger generation who are already being exposed to the internet from small and understand crypto currency very well.
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What to do to get merit reward? on: May 24, 2024, 05:55:28 PM
To get good merits, it would require one to speak clearly and make good short points that is uncontestably true and informative and contains the right tenses that those who don't speak or hear or write the common English language would be able to make meaning of it.

A good merit point is also a result of early response that is precise when no one else is doing so, because I believe the first responders on a particular topic get the most read from others who came later to read and reply.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The difference between gamblers and real Bitcoin investors? on: May 24, 2024, 05:43:45 PM
Between two gamblers or investors, they are also investing in the same way, just different in the category in which their capital will be used. The other is gambling, where the chances of losing the capital you have are high, that you don't need any research to be done just so you can play and win gambling, that you can get lucky in the jackpot, and that you can also be unlucky in gambling.

Whereas in investment, the chances are high that your ROI will be good if you invest in the right investment, and since your comparison is with bitcoin investors, there is no doubt that our ROI will be good for the future with the capital we will use today.
As long as the financial stake, return and risk is different, there's no much similarities between gamblers and real Bitcoin investors.
I like to look at the fact that a Bitcoin investor could know how to understand the trend of the current market and either decide to hold or sell or buy and it is going to be profitable even if the gain isn't much.
Whereas for gamblers, the knowledge of how the game is played does little in predicting the outcome, hence the reason why it is called a game of chance or probability and a Bitcoin investor knows that the best probability of making profit is to invest at the right time.
13  Economy / Economics / Re: knowledge about risks and their types. on: May 24, 2024, 07:12:02 AM
Thanks for this very informative post!

I agree that many people do not actually know what entails a risk. This results to them encountering huge losses than they would have if they had just learned about risks. In every investment, there’s always a risk associated and to say that all investments would guarantee you a 100% return is crazy. Yes it might be possible but only if you properly manage the risks that will come your way.

I have come to the realization for a long time about the importance of studying risks in any business so as to prevent loses from the business. No matter how much you claim to understand the intricacies of business, if you don't focus on learning the associated risks and skills towards curtailing such risks, you will have difficult time trying to achieve a successful business career.

Most people are always interested in the results without dedicating enough time to the process. Rather they are more interested in the ambitious business targets they house in their brains.
Not only in business is  the knowledge of risk helpful, but it is also helpful in making life decisions and an investor who has understood the risk of the venture they intend to undertake, has already become 70% sure to get success.
Risk management courses and seminars also is a good idea for those who don't understand or need better insight in their field. It's just like having to attend and gain certification in HSE safety courses for those who work in the oil and gas or in sectors where the hazard and risk level is high.

Knowing the risk level involved is one step to achieving success.
14  Economy / Economics / Re: Money addiction on: May 24, 2024, 06:56:16 AM
Well we must always make it so we can have money. It is 1 thing we must have in this life if we want to survive. We need it for our food for the families and for a shelter over our head.
And for that reason I think we do have this addiction to money. People does such horrible things in this world to have money. There is so much evil for money because of the addiction and need to have it.
That’s true and maybe that is where it becomes problematic. If you are willing to commit crimes, or to inconvenience other people harm them for your own good just for money then that is already something you need to reflect on.

Other addictions just like gambling or drugs may be overlapped and coexist with addiction with money. It’s all kind of related if you think about it and one needs to be stopped in order to stop the other.
Money addiction to me is just plain greed. While it may be dependent on the gravity of greed, it is the result of doing that thing or hustle or work more aggressively inorder to earn higher pay, while also doing other stuff as side hustle still, all just to increase ones earning.
While this as I just stated is a sure way for everyone who wants to get rich and wealthy, it is the unhealthy way or practice that is followed to earn money, such that one can even kill or maim or deceive, just to get money or claim it from someone who has it, that makes this kind of greed or what we call money addiction in this context to be bad.
15  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Tradding Vs Saving, which is the safest way to build crypto holdings on: May 24, 2024, 06:33:14 AM
There is no accurate answer for this because it completely depends on the person and changes from person to person. If you ask someone like me who don't trade often but just as a part time then definitely doing DCA would be a better option for me compared to someone who does full time trading. I would say it should be 70% DCA and 30% trading. Just my opinion and others are free to dispute or challenge this.

There's no accurate answer indeed and my input is that, trading ensures that an investor always has profit no matter the loss and no matter how long, as long the investor keeps improving and enhancing their trading skills, there's always going to be a time to make good returns which could of course increase ones portfolio and savings.
Whereas, savings will require an investor to have a source of income and an amount set aside for just that.

Also, I want to consider those who earn in cryptocurrency or should I say get paid in cryptocurrency and accept crypto currency payments for transaction or services rendered, I would like to think that this is even a better option if a potential investor is considering building their crypto holdings, although taxes may now have to be paid for crypto holdings for those countries or regions where it is regulated and accepted.
16  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Aggressive Bitcoin investment. on: May 24, 2024, 06:24:39 AM
IMO, in the world of crypto currency, if you have decided to make any of those coins a am investment for you, you shouldn't put more than you can risk on any of the coin, Bitcoin or no Bitcoin, no investment should take more than half of your salary. Investing on Bitcoin with more than half of the money you are being paid as salary is a good sign that the investment will not last long. There are days when some tangible expenses will come and if you don't have money to package those things your investment will crash.
I believe it's simply plain stupidity to not be thinking of the necessity of daily expenses or emergency issues because before one should even think of starting an investment these certain things are the one he should out into consideration of which one is putting the right money in so you won't be affected because whether we like or not
emergency expenses must come
and that's why it's better to have more than source of income so that you can still accumulate aggressively with one pay and then use the other for basic life necessities.
Unless the money invested that sums up as aggressive investment isn't of any use, then it's wise invest doing this with only funds one can afford to lose or stay away from for the time being.
I would even consider investment in BTC or cryptocurrency without a plan but just doing so at ones pace, is aggressively risky too, because diverting huge funds to HoDL for the time at any time may be too much due to responsibility of survival and taking care of dependants or family.
17  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: How to HODL for long. on: May 24, 2024, 06:15:36 AM
Long time holding is a core deal for any good investor in the BTC as the results is always impressive. Op all you mentioned is very important to help whoever with the desire to hold actualize the dream, as many has made mentioned which is not too far from my idea, any investment which the investor is hoping to take income from there to run daily activities or needs hardly withstand long term holding one need set outside element that kill long term holding practice by profiling solution like emergency fund , reserve fund and diversify other means if income as this could promote and keep the investment running untouched.
Omo to HODL Bitcoin for long don be the matter of discussion for long since because na watin people known as the early investors dem take cash out massively and the good thing about Bitcoin be say no matter what even till now you still fit hold am for long especially if you no how to plan yourself well because if you rush into investing in Bitcoin without having a good strategy then you might end up regretting because as your money fit increase na the same way your money sef fit take reduce wey fit come make you frustrate sell am off if you no get mind na make dem get the saying dat CRYPTO IS NOT FOR THE WEAK.
The investor that will enjoy and profit from HODLing long term, is the investor that has a steady source or sources of income. It is also an investor that knows how to oblige to the safe practices of using a hardware wallet and  is matured enough to maintain discipline despite the rise and dip of the cryptocurrency market.

If anyone does their research properly before deciding to HoDL long term, they would understand that HODLing requires a steady fraction of income at a time either quarterly or monthly or depending on ones convenience.
18  Other / Meta / Re: How would the forum feel/react if Casinos were banned like Mixers? on: May 22, 2024, 10:43:03 PM
I don't intend to pry, but you registered on May 7th, and yet you're discussing something that occurred almost 6 months ago when you weren't even registered and haven't experienced yourself. I'm not implying that this is an alt account, but I wouldn't be surprised because it does look a little suspicious.

Anyway, to answer your question, it's unlikely that a casino ban would ever take place, unless there's a ban on cryptocurrency casinos by the U.S. government (where this forum is registered, if I remember correctly), which would result in Theymos possibly getting in trouble for endorsing such services. However, this scenario currently sounds way too far-fetched.
It's way too far-fetched indeed and I know that there's a solid distinction between casinos and mixers if we are to even consider what would be the reason for such a ban in the first place.
Casinos offer gambling services and helps relax freyed nerves or act as a source of entertainment for the customers. Also I think casinos have regulations they abide by of which the government checks and tax regularly.

Mixrs on the other hand has been the sole tool for money laundering schemes as reported by the Feds, mostly as it regards cryptocurrencies and the decentralized space that the government neither has proper regulations over nor controls fully.

Banning casinos here will surely reduce engagement in the gambling section. We will also experience reduced advertising and signature campaigns and of course it will make this community/forum become more focused on all things cryptocurrency and altcoins.
19  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why Lotto Winner Takes Time To Claim Their Rewards, What's The Point? on: May 22, 2024, 05:58:06 PM
Here in our country, if you hit the jackpot, you are given one year to claim your rewards. There is also a security feature on the back of the lotto ticket where you can write your name and sign it, so you are the only person who can claim the jackpot prize, and you have a year to claim it.

I read that some lottery winners take weeks or even months to claim their rewards, but what's the point?

What if you keep it and will surprise your family after a month, but you have an accident and you get into a coma?

Or you let it know to your family, but you decide that you will claim it after a month but some members of the family spread the news will this put your family and yourself in jeopardy

Do you think it's a good idea to claim your winnings a day after hitting the jackpot or wait a few weeks?

How about you? When do you think is the right time to claim your winnings?

The best time for me to claim any reward I have won would be as soon as I find out I have won. For some of these lottery winners, they might be unaware and when they do find out they have won, they may perhaps be engaged in some form of activity or the other or out of town. So it makes sense to wait until one is confident and comfortable enough to claim their winnings.
There's no hard or fast rule about claiming winnings, one just got to know the expiry date for claiming it and or visit the place to drop a notice and return when it's more convenient.
20  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Premier League 2023/2024 Discussion Thread ⚽ on: May 22, 2024, 05:53:36 PM
Rashford hasn't been selected for England Euro 2024 squad.  Smiley  Is it surprising though? I assume not at all. Because you all must have seen his ineffectiveness throughout the season.

He has been an inconsistent player for many years actually. One season we see him playing great with making solid number of goal contributions. But another season he is like a ghost you know. He has a talent but he doesn't want to use it properly. This is bad for the future of his career. He is already 26 and I can't say he has proven himself to be one of the big players. His market value is also dropping on one hand these days.
Rashford would have to prove his worth or remain on the bench during the Euro 2024 soon to be held. Perhaps just like what and how Maguire was treated until he regained form in defense would be a solution for Rashford unless there isn't better option upfront.
Am sure Rashford will find form, but it may next season and in a new club, because I think he is simply fed up with Manchester United and just holding on as much as he can.
