Gleb, I need to photoshop you an award that says World Record Holding Inspector Gadget Of The Interwebz Tongue
I'll settle for the Pakled We-Look-For-Things Mother Ship.

Wow, Gleb! I second this. You have dumped a ton of information here. I just woke up to all of this, and am trying to catch up on all the activity.

I want to give you my perspective on this as a community member, an individual working on the project, and as a matter of public record. I've been involved in the project since 2013 when I got to know tacotime. It was purely theoretical at that point - his work on hybridising PoW/PoS. There was an obvious desire to turn this into something practical, but things were absolutely crazy. Tons of ICOs everywhere. We considered at that point to do something similar - before things even got that crazy - but when lots of projects started taking people's money without deliverables, we got really concerned about the ethics of the matter, since there was always a possibility the project could fail and we'd let all those people down. This was especially worrisome as tacotime would be the only dev. We decided against this and would rather not have his work come to fruition than take the risk to mess people up like that.

So in late 2013 I learned about c0 (Conformal Systems at the time) and got to know Jacob through their open-source work. Obviously btcsuite represented, even at that time, a monumental contribution to Bitcoin development given all the devs employed to work on it. Bear in mind not all btcsuite devs (btcd and btcwallet primarily at the time) were employed, and we should all know these other people for their work and contributions to the ecosystem. Having said that, btcsuite is primarily the funded open-source contribution of c0. You can look at their Github account for that.

I wanted to find a way to bring the talent and effort I saw in their Bitcoin development and contributions to alternative cryptocurrencies - because why not? That's where we can try new things and experiment with new ideas. If you forget about the negative connotations some people hold against "alts", you can bring the same quality and progress seen in packages likes those in btcsuite elsewhere. That was my motivation in approaching c0 on behalf of myself as an individual and tacotime. It turned out c0 shared a lot of our philosophies of collaborative governance and pushing for alternative systems - not at the expense of Bitcoin, but as an extension of technology. It's healthy for the overall ecosystem, and we'll fight for this.

So then development began in early 2014 and here we are. The project didn't take anyone's money and it never will. The project isn't even ours - "we" are custodians trying to boost it so it can become collaborative. If we screw up, someone should call us out and take that position from us. That is healthy and proper governance. I want to get out of the mindset that it's "our" project. It's your project. As soon as it's public after testing, you can come and work on the code and become respected and established in the community based on your merit, not based on anything else. To me that's a fair system - none of us are anything else than people interested in this technology. We fill our positions on that basis - we get done what needs doing to get it up and running. Yeah, sure, we've put years of effort into it - but that's that, we do it as individuals because we love it. Anyone can come work on this. That's the system the project wants, and we'll all stand by that personally too. We'll also defend that philosophy as I am trying to do for you now.

(I'm going to split my response to you so I don't write essays in one post, so give me a sec so I can write it - I'm doing this in real-time and there's a lot to address here!)

Everyone should read this post for sure.

8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Diamond (DMD) Evolution v 2.0 | NEW wallet, 50% POS Active on: November 21, 2015, 05:46:23 PM
Regarding this reactor idea for funding future DMD projects. Although I know Cryptonit is a bit impatient and a real "doer", I think it would be a good idea to first present the development goals/roadmap for 2016 together with estimated costs. In my opinion, it must first be clear what kind of projects are going to be funded before the selling/auctioning of these special reactor addresses starts.

It would also be nice to know who is in the DMD Foundation/Core team at the moment. It has been written that the team has been extended to I think six people, but nowhere it seems to be specified who the current members are.

I agree with this, let's see the roadmap first so we can atleast get an idea for what's ahead.

Ok so another coin aimed at darknet transactions right? Anoncoin is already i2p compatible I'm pretty sure, but how is i2p different from tor?

Ironically I glanced at the crave ann earlier today....didn't look so hot.

Is there any verification that steps will be added to Polo? I submitted a request and I am sure many others have as well. I can't imagine the amount of coins they get requested to add.

How plausible do you guys think it is?

Given that Steps has had some days with back to back 2+ btc volume I don't think its hopeless....but then again polo is one of the best exchanges so who knows?

I am having an issue with my wallet loading blkindex.dat. is there someone who can help me fix my problem?

First try to run your wallet as administrator (right click run as admin). Other than that can you be more specific about the error your getting?
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient HDD Mining | New 1.2.3 Fork block 92000 on: November 07, 2015, 12:21:44 AM
So I am pretty new to CPU mining and Burst mining. How are the two related? From what I understand burst mining uses your HDD and CPU mining uses your processor.

So if I am CPU mining a cryptonote coin why would mining bust effect my hash rate? Does burst somehow effect your CPU as well? Obviously I lack some crucial understanding....could someone help me out? Thanks
It depends on your configuration. Before you begin mining you should plot your HDD and this takes 100% CPU. For a lot of TB plotting could take quite some time. Then you'll need some CPU once each 4 minutes. On many processors it's better to mine cryptonote only on half the cores (or even less). Mining BURST shouldn't bother if this is the case and you only mine with 1 or 2 HDDs.

Thanks for the input, so I have 2 desktops to play around with. One is a newer i7 processor that I'm guessing is quad cores because miner gate says I have 8 cores available. So I have been mining crypto note with it. The other one is like an early 2000 Intel celeron. If I got a couple TB hard drives could I plot on the celeron or is it useless to try and mine on a cpu so old? Aside from that is miner gate the way to go on cpu mining or could I find something more profitable to solo mine?

Marketing Project:

I have created a marketing fund:

17GPDdHiXthrwrLVmw7x9p3FdGzeQwWmcY
https://blockchain.info/address/17GPDdHiXthrwrLVmw7x9p3FdGzeQwWmcY

This fund will be used to buy advertisements for BURST, which I will credit tonight with Bitcoins. The objective is to promote BURST since the demand has shrunk a little bit in the last weeks. BURST needs a shakeup and new members, a bigger and stronger community.

We hope to raise the number of posters in this thread, the number of miners, the number of BURST buyers, and thus the price, and eventually make BURST a big and strong altcoin.

Yes, BURST can make it, so if in the next days more people will post here and the price will suddenly start to go up, we can say that the marketing campaign was successful!

Let's do this!

Pretty cool to see this type of enthusiasm, but maybe the timing for something like this is off? With bitcoin rising and literally every alt coin bleeding out I think it would be hard to raise any awareness.

I have always thought that if a community is going to raise funds it would be better to raise funds to pay for a unique development to the coins usability rather than a marketing campaign. Just my 2 cents, nothing personal of course.

On a side note I really like this coin and don't think it will go away, been buying for a while now.

I have had most of my coins in my wallet for 3+ days and have only managed 1 stake...
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][STEPS] Let's make a new altcoin environment on: October 28, 2015, 11:34:11 PM
As for the staking thing:Almost 2 weeks ago I had 70k coins in my desktop wallet.they were divided into 2500 coin chunks(yes I know Shocked).I was getting rewards twice a day.Sadly enough I don't remember the network weight. As I was buying more coins I began to throw them in the wallet and the chunks were uneven! No rewards at all.I reorganised the wallet  of 100k coins in 10k chunks. The network weight was very big, took coins more than 24 to mature (PC always open and wallet unlocked for staking). After maturing,no rewards in 3 days and prediction of reward was more than 100 (!!!!) days.
Right now I'm not staking,as I got a little scared after Hashmaster and merl got hacked.I'm building a new PC just for staking, but untill that the coins are evenly distributed to 10 different adresses at 10 dif. places.
I just wrote all this to share my experience and give you an idea of what not to do!Hope that was helpful and not confusing.

P.S.When I get back to staking,I'll let you know of what I've done and what is the outcome!

Happy staking everybody!Go Steps!

Could you elaborate more on the right way to send coins to your wallet? Is coin piling different with every POS coin?

Why is it better to move coins into your wallet in one big chunk rather than smaller ones?
