1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Casascius coins pledge for European Bitcoin Conference on: November 07, 2011, 01:18:49 AM
I thought one of the big advantages of Bitcoin was the whole digital thing.. and that one would want to let people know about those advantages..
rather than encouraging them to buy overpriced novelty* items.   Undecided

I see memory dealers is currently selling those physical coins for more than twice what one can buy BTC for at any exchange.   Shocked

But I suppose if you can find people who will actually buy them, more power to you.
I just don't see how it really helps people understand what Bitcoin is really about.

Just my opinion.

* "novelty" in this sense: an article of trade whose value is chiefly decorative, comic, or the like, and whose appeal is often transitory: a store catering to tourists who loaded up with souvenir pennants and other novelties.

So far from what I have seen this is hands-down the best mining company to date.

I have received another dividend Smiley

How will the increased production affect dividend payouts?

casascius.net is redirecting me to casascius.com  Shocked

Well isn't that awfully nice of a "scam" site to now redirect to the "real" site  Roll Eyes
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: update: casascius.COM is GOOD but casascius.NET is EVIL / FRAUD / SCAM / 1% on: October 25, 2011, 07:56:06 PM
It's not very hard to set up a server in another country, hide info and then claim rogue.

I am not saying this is the case, but I think a lot of people need to refresh themselves on what "spam" is (and not the meat).

Unsolicited, bulk email = Spam.

6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: update: casascius.NET is EVIL / FRAUD / SCAM / 1% on: October 25, 2011, 06:41:47 PM
So it is acceptable then that an unsolicited email was sent out to a hacked list "warning" people of a fraudulent site?

I received the email but it was not wanted by me, I did not ask to be notified about this and never did I provide my email address for this purpose to the sender.
It was also completely irrelevant to me since I have not used either site nor would I have planned to.

I shall try this, one for each of my projects, and of course, provide an apology to excuse my sending to thousands of emails to propagate the message that contains links to each of the projects. ^_^  It shall be very effective without any backlash, eh?  Yay traffic to my websites!
Exactly.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Obnoxious Casascius Spam (hint: /etc/hosts: 127.0.0.1 casascius.com) on: October 25, 2011, 06:32:21 PM
I also did receive the email from casascius "warning" me about the fraudulent site, but I did not receive any other emails from the leak list that is supposedly being spammed.

 Huh

11  Economy / Marketplace / Where Can BTC Merchants Advertise? on: October 07, 2011, 07:32:50 PM
Please post if you have the following places for BTC merchants to advertise/promote:

- Directory, marketplace, classifieds
- Banner or other ad placement
- Link trade spots

Pretty much anywhere that someone who sells goods or services for BTC could advertise or promote their products.

Please mention if the site is free to list or paid placement.

Thx

No kidding.

I'll not hold you responsible for the postal service people and their definition of 5-10 days, lol.

A good transaction for sure Smiley

14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Dont buy overpriced PCI-E raisers / extenders weight your options! on: October 06, 2011, 04:16:52 PM

Arrived today Cheesy

Looks pretty good in the bag, will see how it works in the box Wink

Plugged in and churning away. Turns out it's about 2" short of making the card mount nicely on a side card mount in the case so I'm running it open right now.

Going to order a PCI-e x1 extender to make it fit better. Will have to reconfigure some fans but then I will have managed to squeeze every last drop of hashing out of this particular box... for now Wink

If you have Bitcoins and would like discounted cam4 tokens you can exchange them with me.

The current rate is at my site but I may be in a negotiating kind of mood Wink

And when this anonymous unofficial pseudo-business crashes, no one will buy those shares, and those 8BTC will be gone.

Yes, I covered that when I posted:

... any amount below is a loss, minus dividends paid out

Generally a crash = zero.
So that would be the worst case loss scenario from what I said.

At least the level of understanding in this thread is consistent.  Grin

You can now see a live exchange rate for tokens at xxxcoin.com.

Pardon my french, but this has got to be one of the stupidest investments I've seen. An investor ponies up 8 BTC for the chance (and I'd say a very low chance) of getting 1.2 BTC back in a years time? Idiotic. I'd be happy to offer double that return to anyone with BTC they want to get rid of invest.

Clearly someone who does NOT get what is being offered here.

It goes like this, for those who may have missed it...

There are risks, but like with ANY investment, there are risks. Even Fortune 500 companies with long track records manage to screw people over, so putting the risk and trust elements as equal, here's the rest:

You are not spending the Bitcoins. Everyone is talking like the 8BTC is gone and now you have to wait for your monthly dividends to make it back.
When you buy shares in a public company is your money gone or can you sell the shares? Is the dividend on top of the share value or is that now your only source of value in the purchase you have made? This is pretty basic stuff.

- You put in 8BTC for a share
- As long as you have a share you get a % of the mining production every month
- Should you decide to sell your share, any amount you sell it for above 8BTC is a profit and any amount below is a loss, minus dividends paid out

It's not that complex and it's pretty fundamental in terms of structure. The risk level is obvious.

OP's attitude towards some of the "brilliant" posts in this thread are certainly just.

Current bitcoin users buying, selling or hoarding coins is not what will advance (or destroy) bitcoin. Reaching a bigger public is what will make or break bitcoins.
