You could post on Craigslist and trade in person. Both of you bring your laptops (or mobile device) to a cafe that has WiFi.

Nope, power supply is 850w currently loaded to about 250w. Also, the motherboard doesn't recognize a very low-end board (Radeon 2400) in the 1x slot.

I may just have to get a more modern motherboard, such as the ASRock 970 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157262), which has multiple PCIe slots (3 16x and 2 1x). My Dell DG33A01 motherboard is from 2007-8.

Both cards I've tried (5670 and 2400) in the 1x are slot powered only (ie, no 6-pin power connector). Both work fine in the in 16x slot.

Combinations I've tried are:
16x: card, 1x: empty --> 16x card recognized
16x: card, 1x: card --> only 16x card recognized
16x: empty: 1x: card --> no video and BIOS beeps (because there's no recognized video board)

I have a Dell Vostro 410 (Foxconn DG33A01 motherboard) which has three PCIe slots - one 16x and two 1x. I'm trying to add a second 16x GPU (Radeon 5670) to the 1x slot.

I've Dremeled off the end of the 1x so that a 16x can fit. The card fits perfectly but the OS doesn't recognize the card. I've tried shorting pins A1 to B17 as outline in http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=42.

An odd thing is that whenever I have a video card in the 1x slot, the integrated LAN doesn't work. I've also tried disabling the integrated LAN.

So basically I'm stuck. I tried an old Radeon 2400 in the 1x (with and without the A1-B17 short) and it doesn't recognize, so it's the GPU card. For some reason the DG33A01 motherboard refuses to recognize a 16x card in the 1x slot. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a DG33A01 motherboard manual anywhere. The Dell BIOS is pretty lame and doesn't expose any PCIe setting.

Thanks for any help. I've love to get some extra Mhash going with my spare card.
