1  Economy / Service Announcements / [Announce] New search engine for all things Bitcoin on: July 21, 2014, 04:02:34 AM

http://www.coinver.se - A full-text search engine for all things Bitcoin

Ever feel like you're having trouble finding bitcoin resources? Want to find where to spend bitcoin? Tired of keeping spreadsheets of useful links?

Coinver.se is a search engine for every single bitcoin link available all in once place. This is not a "directory", it's just like google! Real internet scale search of all kinds of resources that focus on bitcoin exclusively. (I'm planning to add altcoins very soon)

Things you can find with Coinver.se
  • Merchants that accept bitcoin and the products they offer
  • Services you can purchase with bitcoin by keyword, company name or location
  • Software and Github projects with a bitcoin focus
  • Gambling, Gaming, Faucets, and even "Adult" links
  • Mining gear and help resources
  • News, Articles and Blogs

It's big. Over 150K links to start.
  • Over 20,000 links at launch & growing daily.
  • Web-scale spider to crawl sites frequently
  • Software and Github projects with a bitcoin focus
  • Gambling, Gaming, Faucets, and even "Adult" links

It's free.
  • No fees to list your bitcoin url or project.
  • Organic search ranking based on quality
  • Human curated list of links to avoid lame sites
  • (Coming soon) Claim your site to help make data accurate and relevant

FAQ:

Q: How do I list a site that you're missing?
A: On every page, there is a link to "Suggest a site....". All suggestions are human reviewed for quality.

Q: How is this different from the other sites listing bitcoin stuff?
A: It's not a directory, it's a full-blown keyword-based search engine. Sites are found through crawling the Internet for bitcoin links so it's more complete and larger than simple directories. You can search by product name or keyword.

Q: How is this different from sites like spendbitcoins.com?
A: First, that's a great site! We also include products, but much, much more. Services, gambling/faucets, wallets, mining guides, etc...

Q: How do you make money?
A: Keyword ads just like google. They're limited to text and just a few on each page.

Q: Do you track users/queries?
A: We do not track data on individuals or IP addresses, but searches and clicks are saved to help make the search smarter.

Q: I didn't find my site in your index. Why not?
A: Not every site is in yet. Please suggest a site & it will get added to the index.

Q: Lots of lame links show up before my awesome site. What gives?
A: We're constantly working on making the search better. Drop a line and let us know so we can check it out.

Q: Why didn't you answer my question with this lame FAQ?
A: Post your question this thread and it will be answered!

Q: Do you list alt-coin sites?
A: A few, but not as many as there should be. Please submit sites and they will be added.

Q: Why don't you don't have any sites for <search term>?
A: It's not complete yet, may never be. Please post in this forum and it will get added.

I'd like your help to make Coinver.se better. Your feedback is appreciated. Add your favorite bitcoin site or your own site to the index & it will be reviewed. Provided it's not spam or some kind of scam, it will be added to the index & crawled, just like a regular search engine.

I'm also interested in advertising the site, so if you've got some traffic (or sig space available) and want to talk, please pm me.

2  Economy / Auctions / Re: Lucky Bitcoin Casino is being placed up for auction - Complete Working Casino on: July 11, 2014, 12:42:05 AM
Can you provide some window into financials? Monthy revenue and profit, any debt owed by the company or to players, account balances on deposit (I'm assuming these go the purchaser as they are liabilities), any licensing or maintenance costs, etc...

Without being forthright about the fundamental elements of the business, it's difficult to commit to a bid.

I'm happy to discuss these offline or in PM.

Thank you.

How much is the debt owed, in total, to all parties?

4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have officially made it into the 100 Bitcoin club on: July 10, 2014, 03:33:01 PM
This is a revenue figure. Not an account balance. It makes sense if you remember that he has a business which accepts bitcoin. (or it sounds like it)

If my business account transacts $1 million in a year that is revenue. I would own a million dollar a year business, which is worth something (based largely on profit or brand). Does not make me a millionaire though as I could spend $1.1 million.

5  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is the BEST way to buy bitcoins with Paypal? on: July 10, 2014, 12:35:01 AM
I'm not certain there is a safe way to SELL bitcoin with paypal. That's why it's hard to purchase it with paypal. Sellers have gotten screwed out of their rightful payment and their bitcoin by paypal's policies on disputes (which always seem to favor the buyer in bitcoin transactions).

Basically selling btc with paypal = lose your coins & never get paid. I'm not saying you're a scammer, but so many have been burned that it's a significant risk to the seller. If you did a successful transaction on paypal involving btc, consider yourself lucky.

Buy local, in person, with cash & buy the seller a beer. =)

I never used it but Silk Road is/was "loved" by many people.
It is an amazing example of people using technology to allow the free market to operate.
Not "pitiful", but truly incredible...

I wasn't castigating silk road, which I never had need to use, but how the author throws this tired trope at bitcoin as a whole.

This is a hit piece to advocate buying precious metals instead. Of the hit pieces I have read, this may be one of the most poorly written. Really bad.

Let's take a few of the assumptions apart shall we.

The downsides, however, are only too apparent. Stories abound about how the high-profile digital currency is the coinage of choice for the ‘darknet’, used for everything from arms running to money laundering.

Currency, especially the USD, it far and away the dominant way of laundering money. I could post links to articles about major banks being fined for money laundering, but it's not even worth it.

Silk Road, an online narcotics marketplace beloved of Bitcoin users,

Silk Road is a "beloved marketplace" for online narcotics. Just pitiful, really.

If you’re looking for an alternative currency system that will drive a transition towards sustainability, then there are plenty of better places to start than Bitcoin. Take e-portemonnee, an e-wallet system currently being piloted in Belgium. The system, which is run by Limburg.net, an inter-municipal waste disposal company, sees local residents gain discounts at municipal facilities in exchange for reducing their waste and other environmental actions.

Oohhh...How soon can I place my assets into a currency designed by garbage men?

Quote
Or consider an approach being experimented with in the French city of Nantes. Last year, local bank Crédit Municipal de Nantes issued a pilot currency in conjunction with the municipal authority for exclusive use in the area.

Even better, an inflationary currency designed by a bank that's only good in my neighborhood. I'm gonna convert my 401k into that!

I'm so sick of goldbugs writing this spam. It makes you look bad, it really does.

8  Economy / Services / Re: [FYI] Promote yourself - I wil add your listing to my online directory on: June 27, 2014, 04:03:46 PM
No charge to add your site (or someone else's). I'm just gathering as many resources as I can. More links = better results.

If you sell products, visitors can search for what you offer by keyword term. This is materially different from a number of "category"-based sites where you have to choose a section, then see a list of web sites.

It's a real Google-style search engine, based on lucene. (http://lucene.apache.org/). Right now, I have over 25,000 links, so hopefully it will provide some real value.

My goal is to make where you can type "widgets" and get a list of links to widgets. Or "web design" and see links to designers.

I'm also including all kinds of other useful links, like wallets, exchanges, tutorials, and even github projects.

It's very close, maybe weeks from completion.

That's awesome to hear. Every bit (bun intended) helps everyone buy & spend bitcoin. Post a link here when you're up and running!

Hey all,

If you sell services for bitcoin, I'd be glad to add your website to a directory I'm building. Hopefully when I have enough listings, I'll update with site address, etc....It's not finished yet =)

Just post in this thread or PM me with your URL & I'll add your site. If you don't have a site, post your linkedin, github profile page, FB, etc...

If you want to list some other data (public only please), I will look at adding that to the listing so it shows up how you want.

Thanks!

I promote things on twitter for BTC with my venture:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=367564 as well as selling adspace on my travel blog for BTC here:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=430845.0 Would appreciate the help Smiley

Sure thing. Can I list your blog directly? There's a lot of people that search for bitcoin-related blogs.

13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Search Engine - Thoughts? on: June 17, 2014, 02:42:35 PM
I'm building a search tool specifically for bitcoin resources. Not a directory of top level sites, but a real Google-type engine.

What I've included to at this point:

-Products you can buy with bitcoin (e.g. google shopping)
-Services offered for bitcoin (e.g. web development, etc...)
-Ratings & reviews (aka, yelp)
-Development tools / github projects
-Investors & Funds targeting bitcoin
-Start ups
-Markets, exchanges, and payment processors

What else would make your life easier to find bitcoin resources/lists?

Any feedback (positive or negative) please? I'd thinking of some features like people search (by name, email or btc address).

Thank you!

p.s. long time reader, first time poster, thanks for all the great community.

p.s.s. For the technical folks, I'm using nutch to crawl with a lucene back-end & some hadoop goodness. Rails/Bootstrap front end.
