Should be okay if you can cool it. btw a 3090 will use 285 or more watts
I can’t believe I overlooked that Cheesy. I was so focused on whether the motherboard would be compatible. Thank you for pointing that out since the power supply says 250W max. By chance would you be able to recommend another graphics card that fits this PCs specs for a plug and play ETH mining setup. Either way I really appreciated your response. Thanks

Oh my... please do yourself a favor and find another hobby  Shocked
Hahah I guess i did thank anyone for replying in my original post so… thanks… I guess hahah. It was something I overlooked but would have obviously checked it before purchase and setup. Not  ignorant to the fact that it would have been dangerous. My mind was just focused on whether motherboard would even support it before checking the rest of the boxes so to speak. But you’re right I was kind of working backward there huh? Lol

It should work but not always. There have been some issue reported when using very old motherboards with
very new GPUs. Sometime a BIOS upgrade helps with compatibility. There is a recent thread discussing this very issue.
It will either work or it won't, performance is not an issue. The only way to know for sure if that motherboard
will work is to try it or find someone who already has.

Thanks I’ll keep that in mind. It back to the drawing board for me consider the lack of support from the stock power supply. So that eliminated the 3090 as an option. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have regarding graphics cards that would suit my PCs current specs. That you think might allow me a bit of ETH mining. I believe highest electricity rate I’ve paid is $0.09 kWh so I’d like to explore the whole mining this. I guess I’m late with ETH staking potentially happening this year but it would be nice to get a shot while I still can. Thank for your time

Hi 👋

I know ETH staking is supposed to be coming later this year but would still like to mine what I can in the meantime. Wondering if I can use my HP Pavilion a6303w Desktop PC with a Asus ipibl-lb motherboard to mine ETH with an RTX3090. Would using this old hardware create any bottlenecks to where it would no longer be worth it. I want to start mining but would not like to buy anything other than the graphics card. Thanks in advance for anyone that takes the time to answer
