2  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Win 3 BTC in new great contest from Cointelegraph and Liberty.me on: February 25, 2015, 09:57:13 AM
Just discovered Liberty.me

Good content, I'm not sure if I like the design though.

I'm designer myself - what's wrong with the design?

I like the design and the content looks good to me.

5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1,000-member secret progressive journalist group uncovered, FUD spreaders of BTC on: August 10, 2014, 09:18:22 AM
Just going to point out for some rightwingers that Fox News and its affiliates are also part of the "Main Stream Media".
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Girl Music Video (Official) on: August 10, 2014, 09:15:26 AM
The dumbest thing about this video was the actors using physical bitcoins to buy things in the video. Yeah I know Casascius coins have existed, and paper wallet sweeping is totally legitimate applications of bitcoins in the physical world, , but it is a slap in the face and confusing to non-bitcoiners to see the guy pickup some sort of bitcoin coin on the ground and then spend it by paying for something in the same way you might hand someone a 1 dollar coin. Its unrealistic and confusing.

Yeah I totally get your point. It was more symbolic than anything. I have a casascius coin which I wanted to use really just as a hat-tip to Mike Caldwell (but you couldn't really tell what it was on camera), but mainly having a physical coin just looked better for video.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So Apple is letting Bitcoin back in. on: August 10, 2014, 09:13:14 AM
Be warned, the security of this app is not great. It stores your Blockchain.info password and your app's PIN in plaintext on your phone, retrievable over USB. It also stores an encrypted copy of your Bitcoin wallet right next to the plaintext password (which can be used to decrypt the wallet). I haven't checked, but I imagine these files might be included in iTunes backups of the device too.

The sandbox keeps it safe from other apps, but you are 100% insecure on a jailbroken device.

They did add a new PIN lock to the app, but again this is not used to encrypt your private key and is only a UI lock.

That does sound pretty poor. However, if the app stores its data in /Documents and you have a lock on your phone (preferably complex passphrase / touch ID) then the app's data should be encrypted on your device.

Didn't the recent "scandal" about those usb "backdoor" services show that this isn't good enough; you need to set those explicit NSFileProtectionComplete attributes?

The usb "backdoor" applies only to computers you have specifically authorized by unlocking the phone and tapping "trust this computer." If you can unlock the phone, you could just transfer yourself the contents of the bitcoin wallet anyway.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How To Explain Bitcoin To Your Grandparents on: August 10, 2014, 09:11:38 AM
Grandma would probably point out that that "dwarves" is the plural noun, while "dwarfs" is the verb.
Also, that is a long-winded infographic.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Propaganda at its finest: The Dangers of Bitcoin on: August 04, 2014, 12:53:48 PM
Hahaha this is awesome. It looks like some sort of joke film you'd see on a british sketch comedy show. It even has the obvious, but not over-the-top, factual errors.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What bitcoin myth you want to see us bust next? on: August 04, 2014, 12:52:15 PM
Myth: Bitcoin is more secure than traditional money transfer methods

Bitcoin is quite obviously more secure than traditional money transfer methods as there are no middlemen to mess with your transaction.
As long as you keep your private keys safe  Wink

So as long as you ignore the factor that makes it unsafe, it's safe.

11  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: New iOS wallet called Bither supporting both online and offline use on: August 04, 2014, 12:50:42 PM
Integration with a desktop version would eliminate the need for two separate mobile devices. It might be helpful to define a standard method for encoding raw transactions through QR codes. Has this ever been done through a BIP or other proposal?
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Cold War has begun on: August 04, 2014, 12:49:07 PM
"They know their power is threatened by Bitcoin and will tear each other apart over how to take that power. They will also tear themselves apart with internal power struggles."

You think they could build PRISM, but not decimate what you consider to be the bitcoin network in a heartbeat, if they really wanted to?

"Let's make sure that power is decentralized and accessible to all."

And this is where you lose it. Posts like this are the reason people are moving away from bitcoin much faster than they are coming. Get some fresh air, kid.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Cold War has begun on: August 04, 2014, 12:47:33 PM
"Bitcoin is the economic battlefield of this century"

I want some of what you're smoking on.

"They want to do what governments do, and that is to regulate. Bitcoin says otherwise."

Thanks for the clarification, I didn't know it was the governments duty to govern. What bitcoin says, about 99.99% of the worlds population, at this point, does not care about.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ron Paul on Bitcoin: "The dollar has lost 97 percent of its value..." on: July 06, 2014, 08:21:53 PM
The dollar has lost 97 percent of its value. The end stages of a paper currency always goes very rapidly. Although its been gradual for these hundred years there is going to be a day that I expect there could be a panic out of the dollar, then the Bitcoin issue is going to be a much bigger issue." - He called it the Bitcon issue..
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi.com Sells On Sedo.com For $75,000 on: July 06, 2014, 08:15:36 PM
For people who don't know, Satoshi is the first name of BitCoin protocol creator.

I realy don't think anybody on this forum need this explanation

17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buskers Promoting Bitcoin on: July 06, 2014, 08:00:58 PM
I would totally give a busker some BTC if they had a visible Bitcoin QR code up. I rarely have small bills or change on me but I always have my mobile Bitcoin wallet app.
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Gauging Interest] Bitcoin at Burning Man! on: July 06, 2014, 07:43:23 PM
The event industry will definitely love bitcoin- low fees and no chargeback risk changes the game. No need for a merchant acquiring bank in order to sell tickets online!

(I will also be buying a few gift tickets this year if BMORG accepts bitcoin!)

I'll gladly be the world's first recipient of a burning man ticket purchased with BTC as long as you're the first gifter of a burning man ticket with BTC.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ask Amazon for Bitcoin Payments on: June 29, 2014, 07:39:25 PM
In the meantime, use Gyft to purchase at Amazon. If sales numbers are high enough, Amazon might take notice and decide to accept bitcoins directly, just to cut out the middlemen.

Or, if you want to just pay the item cost and not have to round up to the nearest $10, use snapCard.
