3  Bitcoin / Hardware / Which brand of miner should I trust? on: January 13, 2023, 05:48:12 AM
Hi there, after months of thinking about it, I'm still struggling... As a newbie, which brand of mining rig should I choose at the beginning?
4  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Will you declare the import amount low when you import the miner from China? on: January 09, 2023, 07:45:18 AM
Any legit seller from China already declares the amount and tariff class in their paperwork. There is nothing for you to change. I doubt there are many who will falsify that value to risk their business. U.S. customs only looks at the value and class to determine the tax. Maybe if you buy in large bulk some sellers will want you to handle all the customs yourself or through a broker depending on the terms.

Very true

If the tax is high for you, then it means you shouldn't import it. Declaring fake amounts will only give you trouble. You'll lose more than the tax money and risk yourself for a jail sentence.
Risk jail sentence? For under-declaring imported goods? In what country? Roll Eyes But still, I understand trouble for refusing to pay fine once caught, blah blah. But not just for under-declaring goods value! Imagine making typo in customs declaration and insta prison lol. This does not happen.

No idea so far, risk exists everywhere Undecided we'd better follow the local rule to avoid more troubles.

Thanks, i guess following the rule is the best option.

You seem a marketer to me after reading this thread. must be promoting the same thing

He might be an alt account of this dongqudalaoli who promoting Canaan's official website that includes a fake telegram link.
Canaan never use telegram to contact their customers. So there is a big possibility that this man is one person trying to promote something or the telegram link.
I believe sooner or later if this thread is already buried in a few pages in this section he will edit his post and add the telegram link just like other users who try to manipulate the forum(Blackhat strategy).

Canaan did start its official Telegram group, i am already in their group.

Since the duty and penalty tax are so high. Will you declare the import amount lower when you import the miner from China?  What if the customs notice it, will there be more trouble?
Asking will you do a crime is not likely to get you honest answers.
If I buy from bitmain directly I know I am out 25-35% tax.
I figure it in.
That's right, i guess most may hide the full amount to save some import duties.
Then you guess wrong! More to the point, the buyer has no say in what the value of a shipment is that an exporter declares to Customs. If a manufacturer or exporter cares about staying in business they will NOT 'help' you like that.

No one likes it BUT most of us here DO NOT try to 'hide' the equipment cost and NO reputable manufacturer would ever help you to falsify the value of a shipment. A manufacturer or exporter falsifying declared value is a very good way to have their goods banned from entering a country once they are caught.

As for the recipient the equipment was destined for, yer boned. In cases like that the equipment is seized by Customs.

Thanks for the info, i am not very familiar with thant, i just heard from some shipping agents, maybe they just use their own cargo plane to deliver without doing the customs declaration one by one, kinda confused so far. As you mentioned, it's the best to follow the rule.

Shipping your mining gear back to China for repair isn't the best idea, shipping to and from China will cost a lot, or your miner could be "confiscated" by the manufacturer.

I thought there should be a list of good repair services that all miners can access locally based on their geographical location, this will ensure a cheaper shipping rate and a much faster repair process.

I will be updating the list regularly as information come by, if you have or know a repair service please share it here or send it to me via pm, I will try to do some basic research on all the services I list here, but you will deal with them at your own risk.

Inputs coming from trusted members of the mining community in Bitcointalk will be very helpful.

Please be careful with this website, he may be a scam, it is recommended to contact Avalon's official Chinese website, and then contact websites outside of China through them.
It's their official online shop, i have checked on their official website. You can find the shopping cart. I guess they just started this new program.

Thanks for reminding, it should be the official shop, i contacted their customer service team by Live chat. It's shop.canaan.io
Nothing new about it, canaan.io is legit, one of the oldest manufacturers of gear.
Just be careful to use their website and not something with extra aaaa in the domain name or other funny extensions.
