1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / FACT0RN Mining after exchange listing on: March 04, 2023, 11:36:21 PM
The FACT0RN (Symbol: FACT) Blockchain is now listed on xeggex (https://xeggex.com/asset/FACT) in case anyone here would like to mine the coin. The PoW is integer factorization; in particular, it is very friendly to CPU mining and not as friendly to GPUs and ASICs on the market today. The development of this project was funded by Coinbase (See https://www.coinbase.com/blog/fact0rn-blockchain-integer-factorization-as-proof-of-work-pow)

The total coin supply as of this posting is 88,221.87042070 coins. The current difficulty level is 288-bits --- you must find a brilliant number of that size under blockchain restrictions. The reward for that is about 2.5 FACT coins at the moment --- the target block time is 30 minutes....though many miners have joined in the past couple of days and the blockchain has produced up to 5 blocks in one hour recently and on average is producing more than 2 blocks per hour right now.

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / FACT0RN Blockchain listed on Xeggex on: March 04, 2023, 01:07:58 AM
The FACT0RN Blockchain development was funded by Coinbase though their 2022 Crypto Community Fund competitive call for innovative crypto projects (See: https://www.coinbase.com/blog/fact0rn-blockchain-integer-factorization-as-proof-of-work-pow). The project seeks to replace hashing as PoW by integer factorization; said another way, it seeks to replace a non-research operation like forward hashing by a heavily researched area like breaking RSA or integer factorization.

The project will make available in 2023 the ability to place bounties on the blockchain on any integer of interest, including RSA numbers, by placing FACT coins on them. The details of how to redeem these bounties once you have a solution will be published on a whitepaper. It is a two transaction process, and it is a race.

This project, as stated in the whitepaper as well, seeks to accelerate research and hardware development in the space of integer factorization. The goal being to accelerate advance mathematics and the computational areas associated with it.

FACT0RN has been listed on xeggex and so mining is no longer the only way to get FACT0RN Coins. ( https://xeggex.com/asset/FACT )

3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase: FACT0RN blockchain with Integer Factorization as PoW on: May 31, 2022, 06:41:36 PM
Perhaps you should read the whitepaper. That way you can avoid yelling, and perhaps, learn why gHash is designed the way it is. But, who knows? Maybe reading is not your forte. Incidentally, gHash does take a neglible amount of time while still protecting the blockchain from a mathematical attack using gHash that is described in the whitepaper. Again, reading the whitepaper will allow a conversation that is much more productive than the one we are currently having.

The whole point of gHash is to make it hard to implement in an ASIC, not to make it simpler. The complexity is exactly what is needed to make it hard to implement on ASICS, or FPGAs, for that matter. Plus, this is fast enough to verify quickly. The block target time is 30 minutes.

Coinbase published an article(https://blog.coinbase.com/fact0rn-blockchain-integer-factorization-as-proof-of-work-pow-bc48c6f2100b) 3 days ago on Friday where one of the recipients of their Crypto Community Fund Awards (user https://twitter.com/LionesEscanor on twitter). (The website of the blockchain is https://fact0rn.io)

The whitepaper can be found here (https://fact0rn.io).  Has anyone checked this out? Is anyone mining this stuff? What do you guys think?
