2  Economy / Speculation / Re: It'll be insanity not to buy bitcoin at sub $500 on: September 10, 2014, 06:31:40 AM
The premise of this thread is built upon a fallacy.  The value of bitcoin is not dependent on the cost for mining, I dont even get how somebody could say this is the case.

Consider any other product, goods or services...the value of it is not guaranteed to not fall below production cost, it just becomes bad business when it does.

If it costs me $10 to make a sandwich that doesn't mean people will buy it from me for $10.  They can go to subway and get a 5 dollar footlong.

FYI if one uses norton connectsafe DNS, it seems to have started blocking westhash lately claiming virus are found....

Really? Could you tell me what Norton finds? - Not that I trust Norton at all, just curious......

Thanks.

The profit switcher is working based on statistics from some of the popular pools. The pools supported are TradeMyBit, West/NiceHash, LTCrabbit, Yaamp.

The easiest way to get all the configuration needed is to follow this guide, where you can download all pool info:
http://www.awesomeminer.com/guide/awesomeprofit.aspx

If you use Coinwarz statistics and want to mine for Darkcoin (just an example), Awesome Miner will compare the profit of Darkcoin with the current profitability of mining NiceHash, and switch to the most profitable one. It is however important that all these pools to be considered by the profit switcher are added to the miner pool list. If you go to the Pools-tab for a running miner, you see the list of all the pools - and those you want to profit switch between must be in the list (example screenshot: http://www.awesomeminer.com/img/guide/profit_mining.png)

Thanks, I am pretty sure I am following the directions and see it change sometimes but not confident its working as intended.

For example, I am remotely managing a Gridseed 5 Mhz blade (scrypt only).  I have selected my "Awesome Miner pool" which consists of the supported Pools along with some individual coins.  It has chosen to use the Nicehash pool.

As a test, I have also added my crappy graphics card which gets about 50 khs (scrypt only).  I too select my "Awesome Miner pool" with the exact same pool/coin options.  If this software was auto-picking the most profitable and NiceHash was already picked, one would think the graphics card would also be assigned NiceHash, but no, it gets a coin.

If things are most profitable, why would different devices get different coins/pools?
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PROOF that GAWMiners Hashlet Is Not A Miner on: September 03, 2014, 12:37:03 AM
or it could mean that you are buying a small portion of a larger setup and not assigned to a particular rig - just playing the Devil's advocate here.

that's my impression of the entire thing, your simply buying a "virtual" slice of a greater environment. I'd even guess this may include different methods of achieving payouts including mining but also hedging and other financial tricks to turn a profit.

Regardless of how its accomplished or even if its a completely illegal ponzi scheme, everyone has the ability to withdrawal their earnings the minute they post, so at most if the FBI raids them and pulls the plug, you would lose a day's "mining".

I'd think GAW has made gobs of money selling equipment over the years so it would be a drastic change to switch to a ponzi scheme now...Its like McDonalds selling horse meat, why ruin a good thing that works for something instead illegal? Sure its possible, just not a likely outcome for people already making millions...

Really enjoying the product, so thank you! But I am also not confident I am understanding a couple statements from the website help vs my results.  I have enabled the awesome profit switching rule and its set for 30 minutes.  I also enabled the check box to manually implement and see the option on top, love it!

Help: The Awesome Profit Switching rule requires all pools to switch between to be added to the miner. Of all the added pools, the most profitable will automatically be prioritized.

Me: I am not finding the priorities changing over time even as the coin's and pool profit-abilities change.

Help: If the pool has a specific coin specified, the coin statistics will be used to calculate the profitability of the coin, and the Awesome Profit Switching rule will automatically change to the pool if it's more profitable than any of the added multi-pools.

Me: Pool can mean either a hosted pool such as NiceHash or the pool of coins/pools inside AwesomeMiner.  If I am using NiceHash and also added a dedicated pool for a coin NiceHash knows nothing about, will it get the profitability from Coinwarz and those sites or does it rely on NiceHash to give individual statistics? What if NiceHash knows nothing about that coin?

Mainly I am not seeing consistent results in changing pools with the awesome profit enabled.  For example, ANC coin is always at my highest priority and it starts mining with this.  I then manually switch to a different pool, say NiceHash.  I then re-add my awesome pool which consists of both.  Technically if ANC was my highest priority and thus most profitable, it would switch back, no? And vice versa...in either case it seems to stick with what I move it to and not auto-pick after the 30 minute interval or manual request.
7  Economy / Economics / Re: US National Debt / Deficit - How does it end? on: August 30, 2014, 03:21:03 PM
A government debt is different than a personal debt.  Government spending doesnt just burn away, even if its spent on what somebody may "waste" its spent on jobs and contracts and pushes money into the economy.  Look at the postal service, a collosal waste and cannot keep up with UPS or FedEx, but where does all that money go?

Additionally debt should be in relationship to the GDP output of the country.  If both are increasing at the same rate, then we remain the same.  The actual dollar value increases, along with inflation, so sticker shock always seem high.

Its an interesting subject with much to learn about and of course opinions
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1991 Electronics -> 2014 Smartphone. 2014 Banking -> 2018 Bitcoin on: August 30, 2014, 03:06:36 PM
The more people who early bitcoins from mining, the less chance the value will reach these skyrocketing prices people dream of.

Just my personal option of supply & demand.

If I can buy a miner at relatively reachable amounts, the value of what I archieve will not be 10x 100x anymore...there was the one-time boom like a undervalued stock, but now its just settling.

11  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Using OpenDNS Instead of ISP on: August 22, 2014, 12:31:40 AM
As mentioned above DNS is only for looking up resolution from a hostname to IP.  Once its been looked up by the operating system, the OS will then cache it for a period of time as well.

For example on your windows PC if you connect to www.google.com it will obtain the IP from your DNS which will take a certain ms.  But it then keeps that information for the next 24-48 hours (example time frame)

Unless you had a horrid ISP you'd likely be better off looking to tweak your OS to keep the DNS cache longer

You're correct, there's nothing in any religious scripture that was not well know at the time of writing.

Some people will interpret particular verses to fit current events or discoveries.

And...there was nothing in any religious scripture that was not well known before the time of writing.

13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Thoughts about Bitcoin as a small country currency on: August 21, 2014, 05:50:03 PM
I'd think 2 things would need to be fixed first

1) bitcoin price volitility
2) somebody or some company to open the doors to make it simple technology wise.  I'm talking easy/cheap payment methods like Square brought Visa/Mastercard to small businesses and some reliable/safe non-technical wallet service.  Relying on phones has its challenges in a 3rd world, dont consider just phones but also data-enabled phones and plans which usually bring up costs.

Maybe somebody can help guide me.

Using my wallet I transfered some Monero to MintPal.  I received a transaction ID
80b31d61c7862b8c94b2fc41536b9a89bb059c8f172e7b2c918a27fbef6b775

When searching http://monerochain.info/search this doesnt show up.  However, the funds have been removed from my wallet and MintPal cannot find it either.

Its been a couple days so it appears lost in the ether.

This is my first time searching a transaction so maybe I just need some help on how to find it? Or maybe I found an issue with Monero?

Did you include the payment ID when you made the transfer? Exchanges need you to specify a payment ID for cryptonote coins otherwise they will receive the XMR but have no idea who sent it to them.

for example:
Code:
transfer 2 <mintpal deposit address> <amount> <payment ID>

Douup! That would be it! I'm sure this is where reading instructions would come in handy! I appreciate the response, will try again.

16  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What is average cost of electricity for miners? on: August 04, 2014, 08:08:35 PM
Mine is tiered in southern california...

0 - 376kwh = $0.15
377 - 488 = $0.16
489 - 751 = $0.31
751+ = $0.34

751 kWh/mo is about 1.04 kW average utilization, which is a low threshold. This means you would essentially be paying $0.34/kWh for any miners you add, correct?

Correct, I too am in California with this tiered structure...started mining and hitting the $0.34 tier Sad
17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: creating an exchange site on: August 04, 2014, 07:17:14 PM
How can I create a global banking system? I know how to get a hammer and nails and put together some walls to start making an office.

Basically this is what your asking and if you are asking such a high level question for something that requires so much in-depth knowledge across many different skill sets, it shows your probably not up for the challenge and comprehending the magnitude of your request.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: August 04, 2014, 02:23:25 PM
Hello,
I have been contributing to XMR for a few days and have some XMR in my windows .NET wallet.  When trying to use some of this and send via my wallet, I get the error "the transaction could not be sent".

I am using min count = 1 and fee is default 0.005, for which my wallet has enough to cover my send amount and fee.

Any ideas?
19  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: i want to give 100 BTC to one user on bitcointalk. tell me why it is U. on: August 04, 2014, 01:43:36 AM
I wont lie and say its going to charity (not that those who post that are lying - just I wouldnt).  I am a normal guy, with a normal wife, 2 kids and doing pretty middle class.  I enjoy my career and having fun playing with this bitcoin thing as I find it fascinating.

What would I do with 100 BTC? I would probably put most of it towards my retirement.  While I enjoy my career, the sooner I retire the better, I rather spend more time with my kids, take them travelling, see the world, etc.  Obviously 100 BTC cant do all that but it helps get one closer.

I dont think I am more deserving than anyone else and there are definately people who have had a much harder life than I.  If that's the criteria I am sure there are much more deserving.  Otherwise, making a normal persons' life pretty cool for a bit would go for this BTC 1Fu9oepGnq3ye5NZ47vpmpWaLcLSucPikM
