1  Bitcoin / Hardware / One Stop Shop To Do Research on Mining (Manufacturers, Sellers, Hosting, Repair) on: April 21, 2023, 03:00:38 AM
Hi, I'm Jay and my team and I have been working on ASIC.guidehttps://asic.guide/.  We launched a few months ago and for the past few months, we have been working hard to add as many companies in the space as possible (semi-curated).  I think the website is now a lot more well-round and you can now do research on:
- Manufacturers
- Distributors (For Wholesale Purchase)
- Resellers (For Retail Purchase)
- Hosting providers
- Repair (Repair centers, Repair Training, Repair Tools)
- Services (Mining pool, Custom Firmware, Miner Monitoring, and other services)

You can also filter the list by 'Company Type' and 'Country'

For now our plan, is to add more companies and work on the verification process so that we can do the verification part for users and provide a space for legit companies to operate.

Would love to get some more feedback from the community!

We want the site to be the place where buyers can do research and make a better informed decisions on manufacturers, distributors and resellers.

I'd like to know that in this situation for niceasicminer, what kind of info/intel do you think would be best in order to make an informed decision?

The first thing you would probably need to do is not accept new websites and new resellers that have been around for just a month unless it's a spin-off from some big company that already has some kind of large-scale business. The second and easiest way is a live video stream with the owner, if he wants that to be listed, he can spare 5 minutes with a call from their warehouse, and you can't really fake that.

Also, something like a third thing, do check the ones you have listed and add a few remarks for things that have changed between the time you added them and now, cause companies like ComputeNorth for example have filed for chapter 11 and already sold 2 datacenters as they owe half a billion, a tiny details some might be more interested in that anything else.

The same for Minerva, it missed completely all deliveries to Stronghold and they are part in the lawsuit investors have filed against the company.

I have added the updates as you mentioned for these two companies here: Minerva and Compute North.

I will be combing through other companies to see if there are any newsworthy posts that should be added to the 'Update' section.  If the update is significant and the community wants it, we might move it to its own dedicated section.  Cheers!

You might want to add a disclaimer to the footer area of your website and perhaps it'd be better if each of the listings came with verified/unverified labels.

1. Yes, we will be adding "Suggest an Edit/ Report Company" so that if there's any mistakes or possible scam, people can report to us so we are aware of the issue

2. Verified badge is something we have been thinking about, but it can be tricky to execute.  As in, what does it mean to be verified (as a whole company)?  I think that's very hard (i.e. Compute North, Minerva, Compass Mining are some of the examples that have some "controversies").  That's why we chose to verify only the website as we launch because it is the most obvious one.

However, we do plan to have some other verified sections for different types of companies.  For example,
- distributors and resellers can have a "verified warehouse" section where they have to provide paperwork to show to us that they own/rent a warehouse for their operations.
- hosting providers can have a "verified hosting operation" where we make sure that they really 'operate' the site, not just being the middleman (being the middleman with no control of the operation usually leads to problems in the future).
- manufacturers => I think this is the juiciest because I fly to China all the time (before covid anyway, lol), so I can just visit their factory and make some content.  The only issue here is how to organize it in a neat way for people to see.  I'm sure people outside of China would love more info from the inside.  One incident came to mind: The D1, L1 Hammer/Hummer ASIC.  Obviously they are a duplicate and it was confusing for me in the beginning too.  I think I want ASIC.guide to be able to help resolve these confusions for the ASIC community.

Only if you can come up with an unexploitable review system [it's extremely difficult to execute such a thing].

Yes, that's why we didn't launch with a review section, we want to be sure first.  I've seen too many abused review system that it has lost its usefulness.

There's a demand for escrow providers, but the main issue is always going to be trusting new providers who want to handle deals through other platforms.

Another thing we have under our radar but will be complicate to execute.  I'd say we need to build authority for the website first.  Currently we are trying to fill out the companies to make it useful enough for people. (hint: we are also launching a search feature so it's easier to browse).  But escrow will be something we will explore in later phases!

Hopefully you find this useful!

Wow, those are very insightful thank you!

1) Yes, just to explain a bit more of the current companies listed, since I've been selling miners and hosting miners since 2017 (I co-founded Cryptodrilling.com).  The companies that I listed are kind of pre-vetted, meaning they do that business operations.  But sooner or later those kind of companies will run out and I will definitely need to have a way to screen out scammy companies out of the potential listed companies.

2) Your point for live video stream is really good and I will definitely keep that in mind when we start to list companies that I haven't heard or worked with before.

3) Your point on recent updates like Compute North, MinerVa (and also Compass Mining) are legitimate and it's something that is on our radar as well.  I still decided to list them because I think they still have operations and assets.  But there has been some big changes like you mentioned.  Currently I have a few potential solutions:
- Add news section => I either have to have someone manually pick out some news that is of importance as list it there and point it to the real article.  At least visitors to my website can at least the latest movements of the companies they are doing research on.  (The issue being not all companies will have this section, but having it for certain companies is good for research purposes)

- Add review section => Technically it can be done but my worry is that it can be abused and it will end up with a lot of fake reviews.  So I'm still a bit hesitant, lol.

But thank you so much for your insights! We will definitely take these and discuss it with our team.  Thanks!

Hi all!

I'm Jay and I created https://asic.guide/ and this scenario is the perfect reason why I created the site.

As a reseller and hosting operator myself (I'm based in Thailand and Laos), I have to deal with Chinese suppliers all the time and trust is a big issue.  So my friends and I feel that there is a need and we created ASIC.guide to try to solve the issue.

We want the site to be the place where buyers can do research and make a better informed decisions on manufacturers, distributors and resellers.  Verification is one of the highest priority for us, but we are still trying to figure out how to best do it.

We are thinking about adding a verified warehouse so that we can help confirm that they really do operate (or else they won't be renting out warehouses) vs they just do drop ship (and you could have buy directly from someone else).

I'd like to know that in this situation for niceasicminer, what kind of info/intel do you think would be best in order to make an informed decision? Obviously asking the seller themselves won't solve it.  But what if we have their 'verified warehouse'? Or 'pictures of proven shipments'? Any kind of feedback would be welcomed as we add more features to the site.

In this situation, I think our resellers list is the most relevant: https://asic.guide/resellers.  We are continually adding resellers to try to cover all geographies.

You can also try our distributors list: https://asic.guide/distributors.  But most likely they will have MOQs or doesn't have a specialized logistics route.

Thanks guys!

Thank you so much for your feedback!

I have made the edits to the mistake raised.

All of your concerns are justified and we are aware of them too.  Currently I think my goal is to list companies that are currently operating in the space.  Verification is a bit tricky and we have put a lot of thought into this because one company may be legit to someone and scam to another (i.e. the Compass incident, it would be impossible for us to predict what happened).

So I think the first phase of the website would be a comprehensive directory of all companies and buyers will still have to do more research for themselves.  (We might add a review section so people have feedback.)

In the future we might have escrow service for buying (if that's what the market needs).  Or maybe bulk buying feature.  Let me know what you think.

But I think in the first phase, we just want to be as comprehensive as possible!

Thank you so much for your feedback.  It's very much appreciated! Cheesy

Hi we are continually adding new hosting companies around the world.  You can check a list of them here: https://asic.guide/hosting

Most of the hosting providers that we have in our database are located in North America.  However, we are working hard to add more hosting companies based elsewhere.  If any of you have hosting companies you want us to add, please let us know!

I just launched ASIC.guide.

We are continuously adding companies to our database.  Here is the list of ASIC manufacturers: https://asic.guide/manufacturers

It's not comprehensive yet (we have about 30~ more in our backlog to add).

Hopefully this is useful to you.

Hi,

I'm Jay and I've been mining Bitcoin since 2017.  I co-founded Cryptodrilling.com and I've been mining in Thailand and Laos.

As a reseller of ASIC hardware and also a hosting operator myself, I understand the friction and the fragmented nature of the whole supply chain.  From talking to manufacturers like Bitmain, Microbt to finding distributors who will sell you the MOQs you wanted to talking to local resellers that cater to specific geography and to hosting companies that will accept your ASIC machines.

So we created ASIC.guide to help reduce the friction and facilitate the whole process.  We want to be the go-to directory for ASIC miners and companies to do research.  We know that we won't be able to solve 100% of the issue of the supply chain, it has got to be an industry-wide effort, but we hope to be part of the solution.

Currently we have 4 live sections (1 currently in the making):

1. Manufacturers (https://asic.guide/manufacturers): Basically all of the ASIC manufacturers.  We also include container manufacturers and cooling technology companies (i.e. immersion cooling, hydro, etc.)

2. Distributors (https://asic.guide/distributors): Distributors who have bought and have inventory of ASIC machines and other hardwares.  We aim for this section to be more for wholesalers (not retail) because their requirements are quite different from retail miners

3. Resellers (https://asic.guide/resellers): Resellers are more for retail buyers and tend to be more localized (i.e. serves one geography)

4. Hosting Companies (https://asic.guide/hosting): Hosting companies are the hosting providers.  I think we need to improve on this particular section and we will add more type specific sections here (i.e. hosting location, pictures, verifications)

5. Repair Centers (https://asic.guide/repair): Coming soon.

I'd like to hear feedbacks from the community and I can't wait to engage to see how we can make this tool more useful for everyone here.  Looking forward to hearing from you all!
