One could argue that it's not a bug, but rather a feature to check whether the topic is still active (if any fox notices the intentional malfunction).
But as always, GazetaBitcoin is always there, noticing everything.
2  Other / Meta / Re: Is this forum getting worse and worse? on: June 11, 2024, 04:23:28 PM
Hello my good friends.

Allow me to share my point of view on this topic.

You may (or may not) have noticed that I am writing a lot less than I used to.

This forum felt like a home to me, when I was struggling with understanding Bitcoin and how it works. Of course, I only consider myself to be a little more educated than I was when I joined the forum, but there is still lot to learn.

I have been a member in signature campaingns, I have developed some tools - just for extra knowledge - and I have always been interested in Bitcoin and almost nothing else.

I think that unfortunately this forum is occupied by:

1. people submiting poor answers just to earn some sats from signature campaigns.
2. people who try to scam, or promote fishing websites.
3. people who insult, swear and post death threats.
4. people who should moderate but they don't moderate at all!
5. people who are only interested in posting "will bitcoin reach 1 billion dollars per coin?" or even worse "will this shitcoin reach 1 quantillion dollars per token?".

Of course, there are some exceptions. There are some people who I have really been proud of exchanging ideas with. I will not name anyone, but of course, you all know who the valuable members are in this jungle.

I am not leaving the forum, I love it. But, I think it's simply because I am accustomed to loving it...

Don't forget: keep fighting the good fight! I will be here, for anyone who is genuinely interested in Bitcoin.
3  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: A tor-enabled online marketplace where users can buy/sell watches using Bitcoin on: May 31, 2024, 06:28:24 PM
You mean all the newbie accounts posting in the same format, who are claiming it's a great idea, do not convince you?    Huh   Shocked   Cool

Haha well if you put it this way...
I mean, for some reason, I am reluctant with posts like this, but I am not necessarily suspicious. By that I mean, I am careful, but I have a more romantic approach, thinking that the interest in creating something unique is genuine.
I admit I am wrong...
4  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: I REGAINED access to Bitcoins in my made-up brainwallet! on: May 31, 2024, 06:22:12 PM
That's another issue with trying to use bip38 and brainwallets is that bip38 is pretty well DEPRECATED by now and not really recommended. It's a fact of life that not all Bip38 tools produce the same output. So you better stick with the software you originally used to encrypt which apparently is bitaddress.

That's what I thought, but I couldn't find evidence for it. This would indeed mess up my system.

Any info about it? Sounds like an intriguing case-study.
5  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: A tor-enabled online marketplace where users can buy/sell watches using Bitcoin on: May 31, 2024, 06:18:53 PM
Well I understand everyone who is suspicious, I have come to a conclusion that there must be something shady here... But I have nothing to prove it, so I will just ignore the website and this thread.
6  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: I REGAINED access to Bitcoins in my made-up brainwallet! on: May 27, 2024, 06:15:56 PM

I don't think anyone actually uses BIP38 anymore outside the collectibles community.
I think you're wrong, but can't prove it Wink

I could help proving this statement  Tongue
Now, seriously, were you doing an experiment (for fun) ?
Personally, if I used something like that, I would definitely keep the phrases in paper backups, without ever mentioning or stating they had anything to do with Bitcoin.

Simple brainwallets (by human standards) are in many cases fundamentally flawed which has been proven. You simply can't use anything that's online available as source for a simple brainwallet (simple in terms of taking only the SHA-256 of the source phrase as private key).

Or use my tool https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5488789 (Only kidding of course!)

8  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Silent payments on: May 27, 2024, 03:00:57 PM
Kinda Tongue One large difference is that in Bitcoin, you can choose your own denomination. I've seen altcoins (BlackBytes) that have fixed denominations (like banknotes). In Bitcoin, unlike banknotes, your change is always one input.

One could argue that Bitcoin is a better implementation of cash. I totally agree with you, and it's good that you mention it for newer members to see it.
9  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Silent payments on: May 27, 2024, 06:37:19 AM
Therefore, silent payments offer privacy as long as you're careful with coin control.

Correct, I think we must have made clear, since we have been a lot vocal about it, that in general, Bitcoin works better with coin control. Not only for privacy reasons, but also for better fee management.

Warning fo people who still haven't realised how important coin control is:

Your Bitcoin wallet -although digital- works exactly like your physical wallet not like your bank account.
If your Bitcoin wallet says: 0.15BTC, it means that all the UTXOs that you have in your wallet sum up to 0.15BTC, but you can spend each UTXO separately. Just like you could have $1000 in your physical wallet, but you could spend each dollar individually. In the bank account, there is only a digital balance and each time you spend money, it reduces the available amount respectively.
Imagine paying for a TV that costs $1000, using 200 x $5 bills. Wouldn't you try to find a more convenient way to pay? Like using 10 x $100 or 5 x $200?
Each actual dollar bill that you have in your physical wallet, corresponds to a UTXO that you hold in your Bitcoin wallet.

You must use UTXOs wisely because if you don't, you will end up either ruining your privacy, or -even worse- overpaying transaction fees.

now we still need the confirmation of receipt from @apogio and then the thread could be closed

I haven't received any notification from any courier company regarding my package, which makes me kind of sceptical about its whereabouts. I will let you know if I have any news. At the moment, I have no indication where it could be... As I said, I am using a public locker and I expect them to contact me as soon as the package has arrived, but I have not received any notification from the courier, nor from the locker service company... Anyway... I hope I will receive it soon.

@cygan, if the package is returned to you (for any reason), please contact me via PM.
11  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [Tutorial] BlueWallet - Bitcoin Wallet Discussion on: May 21, 2024, 06:35:33 AM
There is a feature that I really like with BW and this feature is in the "Advanced" mode.
It's the ability to add your own entropy (which exists in other wallets too, but I haven't noticed it in a mobile wallet).

So the way I used it (for experiment - for the time being) is:
1. I downloaded and verified the BW APK from github.
2. I put it in a SD card.
3. I moved the SD card on a mobile device in which I run LineageOS. The device has never touched the internet. It was a cheap one that I bought, did a factory-reset, rooted it and added the custom OS.
4. I grabbed my dice and started playing around.
5. I used the dice to produce entropy and then fed that entropy into BW.

Pretty fun experiment (and I repeat, I know it's not very uncommon, but I liked it!)
12  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best Exchanges Nowadays on: May 21, 2024, 06:28:27 AM
1. Since I see Binance being mentioned here, I must say I was never - ever - ever able to understand the UI / UX of the platform.  Yeah, I know, I may be lazy, but I feel like the exchange is so full of information, that I can't always find what I need.

Note:  I don't use it currently - it may have changed

2. If you want to use a CEX, give a try to some exchanges that are Bitcoin only. I am only aware of a few that work in Europe, but I am sure you can find some of these anywhere in the world.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you invest in BTC or MicroStrategy MSTR? on: May 21, 2024, 06:23:22 AM
Does anybody know where MSTR store their coins? Is it in Coinbase, like the majority of the ETFs?
14  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: BRAIN21 - A simple Brain Wallet generator in BASH on: May 20, 2024, 03:37:00 PM
Basically, unless you are talking to someone who is specifically a Windows application developer or a Windows build is a requirement of the project, you can assume a programmer is going to build in Linux.

In fact, there is nothing wrong with developing in any environment.

Personally, apart from the coding tutorials, I also try to impart an alternative approach:
1. Linux instead of Windows.
2. Open source, instead of closed-source.
3. Verification instead of trust.

Obviously, I am also learning! The road is full of new adventures!

that would be the absolute last resort. reboot the entire computer just so i can run a single bash script. i'm sure you know of a way i could do it from within windows and NOT using wsl...

If I knew, I would tell you. I don't like keeping secrets. What I said is that I don't really want to spend time trying to find a solution to make it work on windows!
15  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: TalkImg Awards - Image of the Year 2023 | sponsored by BC.Game / Icarus on: May 20, 2024, 03:09:00 PM
@Mia Chloe @Amphenomenon @apogio it's been a month since i sent you the Icarus cards
have you received them yet? they should have arrived everywhere by now...

Hi! No I haven't received it either. I have used a locker for the delivery. When they notify me I ll go grab it.
16  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Searching for programmers in the crypto ecosystem! on: May 16, 2024, 07:41:39 PM
In the first hand i said to ''network'' i see that reading is not ur best thing ...

As I saw understanding things is not your thing,

Since you have a clear intention to insult people, saying I can't read or understand you, I am puting you in my ingore list from now on.

Note: since you are a new member here, just note that being on my ignore list means I won't be able to read your posts from now on, so don't bother answering me. You don't seem to care about my opinion anyway.

Good luck with your idea (whatever it is).
17  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Searching for programmers in the crypto ecosystem! on: May 16, 2024, 07:12:40 PM
I doubt that anyone will consider this offer. Let me tell you why...

1. You said it's not a job, but still you don't share the idea with the forum. So you obviously want to make money from it, but the dev you are seeking is going to get nothing, will they?
2. We are all tired of those "incredible idea that would revolutionize the crypto world".
3. Why don't you do it yourself since you are a dev? Just spend more time to study about networking and do it for fun. (Or is it a job and it's not for fun? - you see the confusion here)

Anyway, this forum is open to new ideas, so if you have anything in mind, feel free to share it here
18  Local / Αγορά / Re: Αγορα & Πωληση Κρυπτονομισματων p2p στην Αθηνα on: May 13, 2024, 08:10:16 PM

19  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Sparrow Bitcoin Wallet on: May 13, 2024, 06:31:39 AM
Sparrow and  Samourai have it, which ones else?

The more wallets add PayNyms the faster adoption of this payment scheme  within Bitcoin community.

According to my research, only these 2 support paynyms.
I think Sparrow has always been innovative with new features.
Craig Raw said in a podcast that they try to incorporate the features that they think are beneficial for the great majority of Bitcoiners.
But, then, it's on the user to actually use them!
I have tried paynyms and it worked smoothly, but it was more like a feature experiment to use them, rather than to actually get paid.
20  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Securing Your Seed Phrase with Washers on: May 13, 2024, 06:08:18 AM
Notice that I only struck each letter once, and didn't apply much force, for other washers I have tested the letters and numbers are engraved at a deeper level (if you hit them harder, of course)

Very good result! Congrats!
I liked the fact that you didn't have to use an anvil.
