1  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer S3 support and OverClocking thread on: August 30, 2014, 07:57:28 AM
hello all, i have a stubborn s3 that will not accept OC...the frequency remains at the stock 218.75.   i have tried selecting 237, 250, etc.  and i cannot OC.  i am plagued by the 218.75 frequency.  any suggestions ?
Yep. Update a firmware from Bitmain's site and overclock your S3(s) via web-interface.  Cool

maybe i am just tired, but this is getting worse.  LoL  i updated the firmware to the August file.  now the antminer will not hash at all.  it has both the red and green LED's on.  and there is no frequency in the web UI.  i went back into SSH, and have selected the frequency.  however, the ant's red LED will not turn off.   this is comical.

Flash the firmware again, but reset all settings too, then reconfigure.

So I messed around and how to restore to factory settings.  So back at factory settings consistently at 440~G.  I went back to overclock them.  After SSHing into the miner, changing the settings, confirming the settings were changed, the GUI still shows the stock frequency.  Any clue to why this is?

Putty shows me having marked 250hz, but the GUI only shows stock(218.75).

Thanks in advance

I had problems with the asic-frequency file being used, even though I was using the new advanced frequency setting in the GUI. I just renamed asic-frequency to .old then rebooted.

Does cgminer run at 100% cpu for anyone else?

Ah, it might be this bug:

"There is a problem, when run cgminer as a daemon, it will use 100% cpu. Hope anybody can revise this."

Does anyone have any information about the JDH1238B fan used on the S3? Specifically Air Flow CFM and Noise Level dbA.

I'm looking to replace them with something quieter if possible.

Thanks

they move 90-105 cfm.  the high end 30 a piece deltas move 210 cfm.  so if you buy them and turn down the rpm they will be quieter.  wait for link,

these can be found for less.

they are 4 pin and will run slower then 2000 rpm and still move more air then stock.

most other solutions are meh.  but someone may find a better one for you.

I actually ended up installing a couple of these: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/140mm-silverstone-sst-fhp141-140x140x38mm-fhp-series-black-case-fan

They are 140x38mm with 120mm mounts, they overhang the bottom of the S3, but not by much. The device runs a few degrees warmer, but they're hella quiet and they have a high WAF rating Smiley

Well, according to the #digitalcoin IRC channel: "he is lost and no one knows where he is and no one can reach him".
