1  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Industrial Scale Natural Gas Mining on: May 09, 2024, 10:42:16 PM
I did an analysis for a small 250kw unit, price of generator at $70,000 CAD ($50,000 USD) with an average price of gas at roughly $2750 CAD/Month ($2000 USD) with that generators gas consumption, 85% up time, and thats at 65% of the 5-year average nataural gas price.
2  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Industrial Scale Natural Gas Mining on: May 08, 2024, 10:20:48 PM
Thats interesting, the analysis that I have done for it is still profitable. Even taking maintenance on the generator into consideration.

Can you go deeper into why you do not think its profitable anymore?
3  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Industrial Scale Natural Gas Mining on: May 01, 2024, 03:06:14 AM
Specifically, if you bought a 480v gen, you would buy a transformer? maybe go to 415Y/240 and balance the load onto 240V?
4  Bitcoin / Mining / Industrial Scale Natural Gas Mining on: May 01, 2024, 01:56:15 AM
Hey there,

Ive heard of these setups in North Dakota and Alberta, Canada where a mining farm will be built to run off of excess natural gas on a well-site.

Is there anyone here who owns one or has operated or built one? I am mostly curious about how different setups have done power distribution and all the electrical components from a gas generator.

As far as I see it you would need a big transformer to get the higher generator voltages down, then a large breaker panel to supply PDU's, or your own sub panels.

Id love to hear about this from someone who has done it before.
5  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Centralization in mining. on: January 29, 2024, 12:45:15 PM
I do not think that a 51% attack is likely because the pools are incentivized to keep the value of bitcoin high for their business. An attack on the network would plummet the value of Bitcoin. If this was the intent of a government entity, they would have to coordinate with other governments to also take control of large pools within their jurisdictions.

What I do see as a problem is the ability to censor transactions, or prioritize transactions by building the coming block in specific ways. This is an opaque process that does not have any accountability, and not really any consequence. There is also high chances that government entities have such transactions in mind they would like prioritized or censored.

Ocean pool is looking to solve this, I think they will be successful.
6  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: S17+ Hashboard Swapping on: January 28, 2024, 02:27:21 PM
What is happening is that I am getting 0 chips detected on a hashboard, so I am swap that one out with different hashboards until one is recognized.

I assumed this was because the voltages were different, but maybe it is because those hashboards are broken, and when one works its not becauses its compatible but because I found a good one?
7  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: S17+ Hashboard Swapping on: January 27, 2024, 06:36:25 PM
Update:

I bought them, yes because they were dirt cheap, and because I have connections with the seller rendering them trustworthy.

I have been installing BraiinsOS+ on them as I'm going through them and this does not solve the hashboard compatability, I'm having to randomly guess until I find one that works.

It seems that the BraiinsOS+ kernal log is different from stock bitmain? I dont see anything about hashboard voltages in there.

What I think I am going to do to streamline the process is: keep one stock bitmain firmware, and as you said, use that to individually plug in all my loose hashboards and label them with their voltages.
8  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is Bitcoin mining a profitable business? on: January 23, 2024, 12:27:49 PM
Mining is a profitable business if you can find a competitive advantage for cost savings, or multiple income streams.
Most commonly this is done by getting good and creative electricity deals, research: Stranded Gas Mining
Dual income can come from selling the heat created by the miner for specific situations, some of this is done in the marijuana growing business.
9  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Changing S17+ hashboards between miners doesn't mine. on: January 21, 2024, 11:40:22 PM
Hello,

I have received a bunch of used S17+ miners from china with a bunch of hashboards not working due to A LOT of loose heatsinks and hashboards showing 0 Asics found.
So I'm interchanging working hashboards between the miners to make a few complete working miners.

Now the problem is a working hashboard in the original miner doesn't work when I take it out and put it in another miner.
I've read that these hashboards are coded and tied to it's original miner.
Is there a way to reset the hash board code without having to buy a 300$ hash board code editor?

Or any other tips I can use?

Did you ever get this sorted? I'm in a similar situation, looking to go the simple route of just flashing Braiins OS+ onto them.

Curious how all yours turned out and what you had to do.
10  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS+ support thread on: January 21, 2024, 02:59:17 PM
Hello,

I am trying to find a way to flash BraiinsOS+ onto S17+ without leaving micro-sd in, to avoid having to spend $300+ on many micro-sd's.

I have read little bits about flashing with BOS+Toolbox, and something about flashing to NAND. But I get lost as im not too technically knowlegable.

If someone could give step by step instructions, or a link for how to, that would be great. Thanks.
11  Bitcoin / Mining / S17+ Hashboard Swapping on: January 20, 2024, 02:38:06 PM
Hello,

I am purchasing over 100 S17+'s, over half of which are broken and do not work. The seller claims that many could be fixed by simply swapping the hashboards around to build complete ones.

I have read that the S17's hashboards have specific voltages which are incompatible in different combinations of other hashboards. Im wondering if you guys could shed some light on the specifics of this, and what i would need to read these voltages and match properly. Or if there is a way to by-pass this, or change it in the computer. Im prepared to buy some tools or whatever i may need.

I have also heard that if you use a third-party firmware (im considering Braiins) this specific problem does not apply, and you can use any 3 hashboards together.

Any information relevant to these hashboard voltages, s17+ repair, or suggestions on how to undertake this job of going through 100+ s17's and 300+ hashboards is very welcome.

Thanks.
12  Bitcoin / Mining / Small Farm (50 S19's) Networking Guidance on: January 07, 2024, 12:23:55 PM
Hello everyone,

Im currently building a stranded gas mining rig in a seacan to be deployed on a stranded gas well in Alberta. I come from more of the oilfield and macro-economics side of this project, and know very little about the tech side. Im looking for any advice and help I can get my hands on.

Ive been researching a little bit about how to setup my network to provide me with remote access, and be as basic as possible. It seems to be cut-dry and simple but I know that it is more complex than I think so I am looking for some guidance.

My current view of is would be this: 50 ASICS plugged into 96 port switch, The switch plugged into a miraki firewall, the firewall plugged into a modem. From what I understand, I can remotely log into the network through the firewall.

Do I need a computer to stay out on location in the rig in this network and where would this fit into the network?
Would it be complicating to build a small security camera system into this?
What kind of switch should I be looking for that is robust and simple?
What kind of firewall should I be looking for that offers remote access but is cost effective?
How should I setup my remote accessing, and how much control will I really have/what will it look like?

If anyone has any advice, thoughts, or comments about this. Please share.

Thanks.

14  Bitcoin / Mining support / Antminer S9 - Powers up but does not work on: July 23, 2023, 07:35:09 PM
I just bought a used S9,

it seems to have some problems:

- When it starts up after about 30 seconds the red light turns on and stays solid (doesnt blink and green light stays off)

- I can find the IP and log into the thing but when I put my slushpool info in, it never loads or shows on slushpool

- I have re-booted, re-started, and flashed the firmware multiple times. When i do sometimes the IP doesnt show back up and i have to unplug and plug back in, and sometimes the IP shows up but the Antminer OS is all glitchy and doesnt load half the info and pages.

If you have any ideas for me to try let me know!
