1  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Looking to exchange Amazon eGift for some BTC on: November 03, 2023, 06:31:24 PM
At this time I think it's best if I close the offer. I'm slowly understanding Gift Cards aren't exactly a "sought after" method for trading. I can understand why. being the funds are limited in scope to whatever business the card is redeemed to. I'm thoroughly invested in making p2p trading work for me though. So perhaps I'll look for other more versatile methods to trade in the near future.

Edit to my original proposal: Just to provide some extra incentive, I'd be willing to trade the Gift Card (100$) for a 10% fee on my behalf. So any potential trader would just have to send 0.0026084btc. Just to sweeten the pot. I'd like to close the deal before the end of the week.

If you decide you like doing business with me we can setup recurring transactions every 2 weeks or so. Basically whenever I get paid. My trades would range from 100-200$ typically. I may occasionally desire a slightly larger amount, but this would be a rare exception.
i can exchange gift card for crypto at 30% if its suitable for you contact me thanks

Appreciate the offer, but for the amount I'm buying it wouldn't be advantageous for me to do so at the current moment.

4  Other / Off-topic / Re: Windows 11 pro's and con's? on: November 02, 2023, 04:23:49 PM
I've only ever used Windows 11 in my VirtualMachine to play around with it. My current Windows PC apparently doesn't meet the requirements for upgrading. Being inside a VM and not a dedicated PC, this probably affects the performance quality quite a bit. But, incidentally, I've noticed Windows 10 is pretty fast too provided you kill all the unnecessary baggage that starts on boot in the task manager. The fact Windows 11 is better by default might suggest it's shipping with less bloat. My most major con though is the fact it's just a "black box" operating system. I prefer running Open Source wherever and whenever possible.

I really want to buy the gift card. But I don't have BTC right now, will you accept another cryptocurrency if I match your price? I am willing to do the 25% Deposit, that you mentioned.

What other coins do you have available at the moment? I would prefer BTC, considering whatever I end up with is going to have to be exchanged for BTC.
6  Other / Politics & Society / Re: freedom of expression on: November 01, 2023, 11:36:33 PM
I don't think "freedom of expression" carries much weight anymore. Arguably never did, at least starting in the early 20th century onward. Consider the Espionage Act that could've locked people up for holding an political opinion deemed "too extreme." Or an extension of that scope when McCarthy had his communist witch hunt up until the mid-50s or so. Then after 9/11 the Patriot Act that green-lighted warrantless surveillance of individuals under the guise of terrorism. Some of these you could argue even started out with good intention on reeling in otherwise bad actors, nevertheless innocent people did (and do) get caught up in these surveillance programs for expressing opinions that may be considered extreme by a global entity like the NSA. Unfortunately for us, it's what they decide is too extreme.

I do think we've entered a whole new era that's become monumentally more concerning though. With the rise of Big Tech, people end up profiling themselves a lot more than they realize, simply by using certain services without reading the fine print in ToS's. For example, monitor your scripts across every webpage you visit. 90% of them will have Google 3rd party scripts collecting data. Even when the webpage itself seemingly has no connection to Google. Facebook is a TOTAL wash, people profile themselves on that for fuck sake. Instagram, SnapChat, Tinder, etc. all the same.

This in and of itself is concerning, but when you factor in the era of "culture wars" and "wokeness" that contemporary companies not only acknowledge, but many endorse, then Big Tech can monitor pretty much everything you do and cut you off if they don't think you express the right views. And considering by law these companies are considered private entities, your not protected under the first amendment. At least not as well. Because they can argue in courts of law that their platforms are owned by them, and they can choose to deny service to anyone for whatever reason they like. Hold the wrong view about Israel/Palestine? Gone. Hold the wrong view about Joe Biden? Gone. Hold the wrong view about Donald Trump? Gone. Are you skeptical about COVID vaccines? Bad news for you, you're gone.

And it shouldn't even be about what's correct or not. Technical application of "freedom of expression" would allow for people hold, endorse, and even spread incorrect views. Provided said views don't incite violence towards another individual or institution. However people aren't allowed to have incorrect expressions anymore. Or, rather speaking, their not allowed to have what other private conglomerates believe is incorrect expressions anymore.

Thanks, yeah I've already tried looking around on AgoraDesk with not much luck. I had an ad there but no one responded (I may post another later, just waiting to see if I find anyone here first). The other two I haven't seen before, I'll do an extensive search on them. I see a lot of the immediate offers (localcoinswap) for gift cards are charging pretty high fees. I'm more looking for someone who actually needs Amazon redeemed points, not so much people looking to make profit off the deals. I suppose I'd go as high as 5% above market value, but a lot are much much higher than that. The 9% ad looks kinda fair I guess, but I'd rather just buy 100$ worth my first time.

Hello, I'm not really an active user here but I've decided to check in to see if someone would be willing to be my trade peer for BTC. Preferred method would be an Amazon gift card code, 100$ in exchange for the equivalent in bitcoin (roughly 0.002887 right now as of this post). I can and will provide the code upfront before you send me the BTC so you can confirm the gift's legitimacy. However you need to be a reputable member here, just so I can be reasonably sure you're not a scammer. If you're a member no one can vouch for, perhaps we can setup some sort of security deposit (say 25%?) if that would be agreeable. I'm opened to suggestions. Escrow as well, though I'm unsure how to use such services (my only experience thus far has been centralized exchanges). Send me a message if anyone is interested. I am setup to do PGP communication as well if that's preferable to anyone.

Best Regards,

John

The not important stuff: I'm here because I wish to escape the centralize KYC oligopoly, I've looked into decentralize P2P exchanges and while I like the concept they seem pretty much dead to me. Especially places like Bisq. Basically anyone who's not buying "cash by mail" has a hard time finding trading partners. Or Zelle maybe, which I've seen quite a few offers for, but I'm not setup to do as of right now. As I originally said, I'm interested in escaping KYC for security and data collection purposes. I'm not really looking for fully anonymous coin. So cash by mail has no interest to me, especially when it takes so long to close the deal. Most of their minimums are frequently too high as well. I'm typically never looking to buy more than 100-200$ in BTC at one time.

9  Other / Archival / Re: Sinbad.io Mixer - secure, fast and easy to use on: August 06, 2023, 07:59:09 PM
Thanks for all the replies, I greatly appreciate it! The transaction did go through without any problems, I will however refrain from doing this in the future. Can I use the same non-custodial wallet to funnel the pre-mixed and post-mixed coins through?

Say, for example, I create one address to send the pre-mixed coins to from Coinbase. Then I send the coins from that address to the mixer, then back to the same wallet on another address?

Or would it be best to use a entirely different wallet for that intermediary process?

Thank you all for the help.

Hello, I'm a new member of the forum for starters.  But I have lurked on occasions to learn more about this stuff. I think I made a pretty big mistake using your mixer. I was stupid for not reading your FAQ first, I thought the whole process sounded pretty straightforward. Needless to say, I'm not that smart when it comes to this type of stuff haha.

Anyways, your FAQ said to NEVER send coins from a market wallet (like Coinbase) to the mixer address. I actually ended up doing that. Is this going to turn into a big deal? Will Coinbase close out my account? Or will even worse stuff happen, it's my own fault but because I'm unsure of the consequences I'd like to know if anybody else has made this mistake before.

Thanks for your time,
John
