1  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] kycnot.me | Open-source list of non-kyc services on: August 16, 2023, 10:20:40 AM
If it were possible to further filter the "Services" part by type of service, such as vpn, hosting, phone whatever, that would be even better. But I have to say, it's good even as-is.
If you go to the "Services" filter and then use the search bar, for example typing "VPN", "hosting", "sms" you will get all services filtered by that type. I could add a type filter, but I think the search bar is more powerful.

I love the look of the new update, especially the UI. However, I noticed that the lists/log containing exchanges that have been delisted from the platform, when they were delisted and the reason they were delisted seems to be missing or is probably hard to find. Can you rectify this?
Yeah, https://kycnot.me/changelog doesn't work anymore.
True, there's no way currently to see the delisted and reasons for delistings. I will add a `/delisted` list or something, so this is visible with all the information about the delisting. You can currently visit https://kycnot.me/audit to see database changes, but it will only show when the status of an exchange changes (i.e. status changes from "1" (listed) to "-1" (delisted)).

Hi pluja, I'm glad to see you here, since you're here, create an ANN topic here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=84.0

Off topic: Great job on the update @pluja! I would seriously consider follow Yamane_Keto recommendation[1] and open up a thread in the service announcements section of the forum. That way we could discuss anything related with your website. Regarding the website design the only aspect that I have some doubts about is the grading color scheme underneath of each service - I understand that it helps translating what kind of aspects aren't achievable by the service (Being open source, No JS, etc) but the user always has to end up clicking on the service in order to see what is missing. I don't have an alternative solution for this however.

Thank you for the suggestions, I just opened a new topic there: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5463031

I am ready to follow the replies and make sure that topic is updated if you do not have time or are not interested in the forum (I will contact you via github)
Thank you for offering, I will try to be around, but sometimes I get busy and tend to forget about social media, so it would be great if someone could contact me on important matters if you see I've not been around for a while Smiley

Quote from:  A curated list of non-kyc cryptocurrency services: [Clearnet] & [Tor Mirror]

KYCNOT.ME is an open-source list of alternatives for buying, exchanging, trading, and using cryptocurrencies without having to disclose your identity,
helping to preserve the essence of cryptocurrencies, which is decentralized, self-governed and private.

Why?

Bitcoin was made to revolutionize the way we pay for goods and services, aiming to get rid of the trust on centralized entities such as banks and governments that control our economy.

Exchanges that enforce KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) rules operate similarly to traditional banks. Users are required to provide identification, such as a photo of their ID, to use these exchanges. Moreover, most of these exchanges are centralized, taking custody of user's funds. These requirements contradict the decentralized nature of cryptocurrencies.

Usage

Just visit KYCNOT.ME and browse the services. You can use the search bar to find particular types of services; for example, is I wanted to find VPN services, I can type "vpn" and it will show me all the services that offer a VPN service. Other filters are available, such as accepted payment methods filter, or type filter.

Each service has a page. The page shows a description, links to the service and a series of information about that service:

  • Point list - This is a list of the features (and anti-features) of the service. You can click on any point to see the point page, there you will find a description about it and all the related services to it. It's also possible to request new points to be added.
  • ToS scrapper - An automated tool scrapes all the service's ToS every day, trying to find any fragments of the ToS that are related to KYC. You will find this in the last section of the service page.

> Request a service

Requesting services is done through the request form available at the request page. Just fill the form and submit, I will receive a ping and a new issue will be automatically created on GitLab. The service will then appear in the pending services list. After a review of the listing, it may get listed or discussed in the said issue.

The approval process is manual, so it may be a bit slow for me to check everything, test and take a decision. This means a service can be a somewhat long time on the "pending" page.

> Discuss a service

If you find any discrepancies, outdated information, or suspect fraudulent activities related to a service, you can share this information publicly via the service's GitLab issue. You can access each service's issue page on kycnot.me by clicking the "Discuss this service" button on the respective service's page. I will then review it and engage in a discussion about it, so we can jointly decide on the appropriate course of action. It is crucial that these discussions occur in the public domain to ensure transparency and maintain a public record of the decision-making process, for this, GitLab issues were chosen.

> Follow a service

If you are a service owner or just interested in a particular service, you can subscribe to the particular GitLab issue for that service. Anytime someone posts a comment on the issue, you will receive a notification.

The only small bug I've found is that if I try to visit the Audits page I get the error "Could not get audit logs, please try again later". I assume this is simply because there have been no updates yet since the new site launched?
Thank you for your kind words and the heads-up on the bug! I just pushed a fix, it was an issue with some database changes I made that were not reflected on the audits page.

If you only or mostly include trusted & verified services and make sure that listed information is always updated, then no one will be able to clone you and become more popular. Back then when I used your website, I was looking for SMS service, googled all of them and only one or two was trustworthy, the rest of the listed websites were scam.

That's what I try. Every service that's been tested personally by me has a double blue check mark, indicating that I have verified that it works manually: https://kycnot.me/about#verification

But that's not a forever-verification. Services can change, so I try to regularly check services, but that's a very time-consuming task, and also I have to put my money in risk every time I test them out. For this, it would be great if any  user that encounters some valuable information about a service (like you did with some SMS services) sends that information to me, by an issue, or commenting the service's issue: https://gitlab.com/kycnot/services/-/issues. This way, I will be aware of that and able to update the information or delist. It's impossible for me to be aware of all changes, and all user opinions about the services that are listed at all times...

By the way, it will be better if you return the old way of filtration. At the moment there are only | All | Exchanges | Services |. Please don't unite everything under the name of services because it's getting hard to find the list of companies that offer particular service.

You can use the search bar for that. If you want SMS services, just search for "SMS" and you'll be shown any service that offers SMS service. Same for VPN, hosting, domains, mixers... I may add sections in the "services" list, but the search bar is now more powerful than any filter there was before.

Hello everyone, I'm pluja, the user behind kycnot.me, and I happened to come across this post.

Just a couple of days ago, I launched a major update of the site. This involved refreshing a lot of information and removing exchanges that are no longer active. Each service has its own discussion thread at https://gitlab.com/kycnot/services/-/issues. Feel free to leave comments if you notice any inaccuracies or outdated information, and I'll make the necessary updates as quickly as possible.

I understand the appeal of creating a clone of the site, but I've always believed that kycnot.me would benefit greatly from more contributors. As it stands, I'm the only maintainer testing and verifying information for a multitude of projects, which is a time-consuming task. For all this, it is, inevitable, some things might slip through the cracks. Fortunately, I receive many emails alerting me about significant changes, so most times I can respond very fast to important issues. My point is, I believe it would be more beneficial for the community as a whole if we pooled our efforts, rather than creating separate clones and dividing our resources. I always read all the issues and emails, and I always respond, even while I was working on the rewrite.

In addition to updating existing information, I've added a number of new services and I work hard to keep everything up-to-date. The updated site now includes a 'pending' page at https://kycnot.me/pending, where you can see which services are awaiting review and testing before being accepted.

I welcome any suggestions or improvements you might have. Since the code is open source, you're more than welcome to contribute, open issues, or whatever else you feel would be helpful. I'll make an effort to be more active here as well Smiley
