No you don't need a connection. Once the bitcoin is in the system it's as good as sent and you don't need to be connected to the net as it's the network that processes your coins not your phone. You could even have your coins sent to an address offline and never connect until you want to use them but all your coins will still be there.

8 hours and 19 minutes.

Think I must've lurked for about ten times that much, though.
3  Economy / Economics / Re: Thousands of expat Americans renouncing citizenship to avoid new tax laws on: November 09, 2015, 04:24:52 PM
I'm surprised more people aren't moving out of the states. Doesn't really offer much anymore. You don't even get free healthcare at education is very costly. I'd rather live in a country where both are free.

A lot of them are staying in thailand and philippines. Just close a deal from US expat wanting to buy beach front properties of Mandani Bay in Cebu Philippines.

What are the income and capital gains taxes there like or are people just moving there because it's insanely cheap? I wouldn't mind moving to some tax exile place in the future. You can buy citizenship to places like Saint Kitts and Nevis. It comes free if you invest a decent amount in property there which sounds like a win win to me.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the point of Circle, Bitpay and so on? on: October 26, 2015, 05:40:16 PM
As far as I know, Bitcoin is supposed to be about ease of use, p2p money, fast, uncompromised, decentralized. What's the point of "payment processors" or whatever those services are called, when to use Bitcoin, all you need is to download a wallet, create any addresses you like, and start receiving payment for your work/pay others for their work? (or donating, or whatever you want to do with your money) without needing to give any personal details, and without the permission of anyone.

What the hell is really "Bitpay" and why is that a market?

You don't need to use them if you don't want to and ultimately they're not needed but some companies don't want to keep bitcoins and would rather have the cash directly and payment processors like bitpay do that automatically for them. Payment processors will also come in handy if a company scams you and never sends the goods so you can easily get your money back.
5  Other / Off-topic / Re: General Football Discussion - 2015/16 Season on: October 11, 2015, 12:01:05 PM
Klopp is a great trainer for sure, but I don't think that he is able to make them finish in top 4 this season with the average players he have to deal with. The only world class player they have is Coutinho. Which isn't exactly enough for a club as Liverpool.

I wish people would stop placing so much blame on the managers and sacking them when their teams aren't doing great. It's the players on the pitch not the manager. The manager can't do anything with poor or uninspired players. Liverpool will continue to mediocre regardless of which manager they have.
6  Economy / Economics / Re: What do you think about what Satoshi said ? on: September 28, 2015, 11:43:17 AM
In Feb. 14, 2010 Satoshi Nakamoto said : I’m sure that in 20 years there will either be very large (bitcoin) transaction volume or no volume.

Current transactions volume : https://blockchain.info/fr/charts/n-transactions

What do you think about what Satoshi said and how it's going to be in 2029 . As we can see on the Blockchain.info chart volume seems to be increasing with the time however it doesn't seem to be enough , it's not that big ...

I think he's entirely right. It's either going to be adopted by the masses or people will lose interest and the price will keep going down until the miners call it a day and quit.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do you continue to support r/bitcoin and bitcointalk.com on: September 14, 2015, 01:22:45 PM
I understand there is a lack of alternatives, and there is not a better place for up to date information.

But, in the light of Bitcoin and what it represents, neither of these platforms promote the same ideologies.

Unless you can find a forum that is decentralized I'm not sure how you could have one that promotes the same ideologies. Bitcointalk is currently the best place and its hardly run by nazis though people complain whenever their thread gets moved into the correct section. Personally I wouldn't change unless a clear superior forum came about.
8  Other / Off-topic / Re: Starbucks or The Coffee Bean? on: September 14, 2015, 01:19:51 PM
I refuse to drink at starbucks for many reasons. Never heard of the other one. If I was going to purchase coffee from a store it would be from an independant one and not a chain.
9  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you like Pizza? on: August 26, 2015, 09:07:14 PM
I used to love Pizza and it was my favorite food but no it just makes me feel a bit sick. Most pizzas are pretty bad for you to be honest. So much saturated fat.
10  Economy / Economics / Re: How Bitcoin Makes Banks Obsolete on: August 26, 2015, 09:03:17 PM
This effectively eliminates the possibility of Fractional Reserve Banking. Who in their right mind is going to give their bitcoins to a bank that turns our around and lends them to other people and makes bets in the stock market with them? Nobody.

What you think?

I think you under estimate the apathy of the general public. They don't care what the banks do to them or their money, just like they don't care what their government does with their taxes.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of reasons we do not need bigger block sizes on: August 17, 2015, 09:42:22 AM
If fees ever do get too crazy I'd support a block size limit increase too, but I don't expect that to happen for over a decade if ever.

i think the point is that we cannot wait that it become necessary to increase the blocksize, to actually increase it, we must forecast this, before it happen

I agree. It will become a problem at one point and it obviously needs to be raised, it's just to what and and when that people can't seem to agree on. I don't think it needs raising it 8 though.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Snowden Says Bitcoin is Flawed on: August 17, 2015, 09:39:33 AM
He is obv. no Bitcoin expert.

Exactly. I don't really think he's much of an expert in anything really but just got thrown out there because he had the balls to share the information he had access to (which I respect him massively for btw). I'm surprised he's not more of a fan than bitcoin to be fair. It's one thing he could benefit massively from.

Real Madrid v Tottenham in the audi cup tomorrow for the next round?
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: July 19, 2015, 03:00:17 PM
that was before 1000$ BTC price.

it was after actually because 1k happened around january, but it does not mean anything because a manipulated price like that on one exchange only does not count at all

Finally, someone gets it. Bitcoin has never hit $1k exchange rate. That was a Karpeles con. It's actually a testament to Bitcoin's success that we've held stable at the $250-$300 range for so long. There's nothing wrong with it taking 30 years to reach $1k exchange rate. Most people just don't want to believe it will take that long because that doesn't fit neatly into their early retirement plan.

Well, it did hit it regardless of manipulation. Maybe someone could manipulate it back there too. I do think it is going to take a while for us to get back to 1k but if bitcoin is adopted by a major industry or company then I think we'll get their sooner than people think.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who controls bitcoins? on: July 19, 2015, 02:58:40 PM
The Chinese has tried to "shutdown" the internet in their country for years and the people there still bypass some of those restrictions.

Let's say there is some truth in what you are saying... your Bitcoin would still be safe. {It's recorded on the Blockchain}

Not ALL governments will shutdown the internet.... There has not been a single event in the history of mankind, where all nations agreed on something.

The Blockchain can function on many other communications methods and it will soon be into space.  Wink

if the government decides to shut down the internet then i guess there is no more reason to live Cheesy

They're not trying to shut it down, just censor and control it. It's really sad to me that they think they can keep their citizens in check like this.

17  Other / Off-topic / Re: What are your HOBBIES? on: June 18, 2015, 09:54:49 AM
I think my biggest hobby has become bitcoin. I love everything about it. I also like to read, listen to music and watch films. Think those are the biggest way I pass the time.

My hobby is drinking wines.

Are you an alcoholic ? lol.
18  Economy / Economics / Re: I need bitcoin to be $690 to break even.....will I make it? on: June 18, 2015, 09:52:41 AM
If you have patience you will regain your loses.

How much patience..... are we talking 2 years or 20 years?

20years will make you a millionaire.

20 years id be 47, and id say why the hell would I hold these coins for so long.

If anyone holds this long, much props to them. I could be dead before 47 due to natural causes etc.

You could die today also. Most people save until there older and bitcoin could give you a nice early retirement package and give you the freedom to do all the things you ever wanted. On the flip side of that nothing is guaranteed but it is exciting to see where bitcoin will go in the future.
19  Other / Off-topic / Re: Help me count my activity on: June 06, 2015, 11:17:39 AM
Quote
The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is updated every hour.

Can someone help me understand it. ELI5 please.

What is ELI5? Simply put you can get 14 activity every fortnightly period you have posted in. You only need to post once in the period then you can collect the potential points later.
20  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What to do with Bitcoins on: June 06, 2015, 11:15:11 AM
I don't think you need to gamble or invest them. Just holding bitcoins themselves will be the best investment, but of course it is also a gamble. Save them for a few years and I think you will be in substantial profit. You can then spend them or cash them out.
