1  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Security measure on: October 25, 2014, 04:34:04 PM
Destroying hard drive seems a little expensive.

Try this:
You will need two USB drives

Disconnect all the internal drives
create one live Ubuntu/Tails or any other linux USB
on 2nd USB create encrypted container*
transfer bitcoin wallet address generator to 2nd USB and run it from Live USB
create Bitcoin addresses and save them on 2nd USB
(optional but highly recommended) encrypt your private keys with strong password.
**important** create many back up copies

*cross platform encrypted container is hard to find since TrueCrypt (the only cross platform container that I know of) is no longer in development.

Edit:
as an added layer of security, use a spare computer that will never go online to generate Bitcoin addresses

3  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Online or Desktop Wallet? on: October 18, 2014, 01:14:17 AM
I would suggest online for purchases and small amounts and cold storage (offline wallet) for savings. you should check out paper wallet. here is guide for paper wallet: http://www.btcguys.us/blog/how-to-create-bitcoin-paper-wallet-tutorial

Remember not to print your private keys on a printer that keeps data in memory. So use a dumb printer for paper wallets.

thanks for the link. gonna try that one too. Now, where can I find a dumb printer now?  Grin

My guide seems a little rushed.. if you could provide some feedback, it would be great!

5  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My N00b plan to make an anonymous purchase--will it work? I bet not exactly. on: October 14, 2014, 01:03:34 AM
We provide anonymous service depending on volume. More than $1,000 worth of Bitcoins in a single day requires ID.
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is one method of 2FA safer than another? on: October 11, 2014, 06:10:06 PM
I don't think authy is safe as it keeps your data online. Route for either Google Authenticator or sms. Even Google Authenticator is unsafe because it stores data on the phone so try to use spare phone that will never go online and keep the phone in a secure place.
7  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: i wanna download electrum (HELP!) on: October 11, 2014, 03:10:23 PM
But it is unsafe to use Electrum on pc that is connected to internet because Electrum stores wallet data here: X:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Electrum

You should either encrypt the wallet with strong password or use offline pc.

If you need help with setting up Electrum on offline pc then here is guide:
http://www.btcguys.us/blog/how-to-create-offline-wallet-with-electrum-bitcoin-client-and-broadcast-transactions

as a rule of thumb you should encrypt your offline wallet too.

9  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Justcoin · Secure Bitcoin Exchange from Norway (BTC/EUR/USD) on: October 10, 2014, 08:30:56 PM
It is working fine now. I was able to deposit and withdraw Bitcoins using same deposit address that I always use.
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help! My buddy's BTC were stolen! on: October 08, 2014, 09:47:42 PM
Transaction has been confirmed on the blockchain and as a result you will not be able to recover your Bitcoins. I know there is (was) a site that could intercept input of transaction BEFORE it is confirmed on blockchain to make it invalid transaction.

White at it, does someone know domain of that site or if it still exists in case someone has to intercept unconfirmed transactions.

18  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: About to do a Trade with Chris001 on: October 02, 2014, 01:40:41 AM
since this is your first trade, you should use escrow service. If you do not know escrow service then you need to do some research.
Check out Danny, an escrow specialist: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=254369.msg2706951#msg2706951
