1  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Loss of assets in hardware wallets?! on: September 17, 2023, 01:11:49 PM
Hello. I'm just thinking about buying a hardware wallet and I'm a bit skeptical and inexperienced in this field. I used coinomi until now.
I have three questions. Help me please.

1- Has anyone ever lost cryptocurrencies stored in a hardware wallet? I know that should not buy a second-hand hardware wallet and should buy it from the manufacturer or its authorized representative. I mean, is it possible that the manufacturing company (like Ledger, safepal or whatever) tampered with the product from the first? For example, in the production line. For example, the manufacturing company may have stored the words of the device, and after someone makes a purchase and transfers the balance to the hard wallet, the manufacturing company steals them. Has anyone ever reported that they lost their cryptos stored in hardware wallets?

2- How do I know that the words I received will not be assigned to another user after some time in a hot or cold wallet?

3- I want to buy ledger nano s plus or safepal s1.  which one is good? (I only want for bitcoin)

please guide me.
Thank you very much

Hello.
I want to buy a hardware wallet. I only have bitcoin. In your opinion, is safepal good or ellipal titan mini? (I don't have a financial problem, I just want an air gap hardware wallet).
I also want a hardware wallet that support bip39 password (a cipher that is needed during recovery, in addition to words, and is actually a protection for words) when creating the wallet.
Thank you very much

Hi, I recommend to take a look to our website to chose the best hardware wallet for you: https://thebitcoinhole.com/
We compare lots of models and you can also filter them by the features that are a must for you.
Hi, thanks.
I visited the site and found that safepal supports passphrase.  But my question is: let me say it like this.  I use Coinomi, after gives me the recovery phrases, an option to add a passphrase appears and a password can be set.  But this option is not available when creating a safepal wallet.  So how does it work?

For bitcoin-only hardware wallet, you can go for Passport hardware wallet.

I also want a hardware wallet that support bip39 password (a cipher that is needed during recovery, in addition to words, and is actually a protection for words) when creating the wallet.
It is supporting BIP39 passphrase and also it is airgapped. https://foundationdevices.com/2021/10/passphrases-what-why-how/

Thank you for your suggestion. But I am in a country where this wallet is not sold

I bought a SafePal some time ago, and I don't think it's worth the money (and it was even cheaper back then). Not sure about the latest one that just came out: https://www.safepal.com/en/store/x1

Also, I'm not sure I understand what is "bip39 password" you're referring to here. Is it the extended words that you can add to your seedphrase? If so then Trezor has that: https://trezor.io/learn/a/passphrases-and-hidden-wallets

Thank you. Why is it not worth it?  bip39 is a code that can be placed on recovery words.  If your words fall into the hands of a thief, he can't do anything with just words and will need a password.  If he simply retrieves the words, he will see an empty wallet.
