1  Economy / Speculation / Re: Difficulty are going down - No question about it - New price target 3-4 dollars on: August 12, 2011, 05:27:23 PM
Difficulty doesn't set the price of anything. Don't know where you came with those "price targets" from, it's a supply and demand market, not a "pay for the miners luck" and bitcoins will not be generated faster by a small decrease in difficulty, as that also means a decrease in allocated computer power.

Basically this.

Difficulty is going to be a lagging follower of price in the long run, not the other way around.

The only way the opposite would occur is if a medium/large company decided to build a large mining array and then started running it before it announced that it would be doing something big with BTC that would raise the price significantly.

I do really dislike this 4 hour limit though. A post limit of 10-25 is one thing for instance, but sitting/idling on a forum reading the same handful of threads a dozen times that pertain to my interest just waiting for the timer is not my idea of fun Sad

This.

The post limit should somewhat match the time limit IMHO.
3  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why would pool hopping matter? on: July 25, 2011, 11:21:41 PM
It depends on how the pool pays out.

If the shares in a pool do not reset every time a new block is found on the network, you should join the pool that most recently found a block.

Hello,

I would like to be white-listed as I am starting a Bitcoin services business with several partners, and I would like to give other members of the forum an opportunity to preview the site and provide input.

Thanks in advance for any consideration.

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

This is an exciting time for the world and for the Bitcoin community.

As the prevalence, exposure, and market cap of Bitcoin grows, there will be more people of less than savory character attempting to steal from the community.

In that vein, what is the best method a company could utilize to ease the more than understandable distrust users would place in an unestablished company?

Obviously trust is slow to build and quick to lose, but is there anything a company could do that would make it harder for them to scam their customers and/or make it easier for customers to trust them?

Thanks in advance for the thoughts!

Cheers
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: POLL: What name would you give to the smallest unit of bitcoin (0.00000001)? on: July 25, 2011, 10:27:52 PM
In all seriousness now, the best way to keep new people coming in is probably to continue moving the decimal place and calling the common unit of division a 'Bitcoin.'

Those who already use BTC will understand it and adapt.  Those who don't won't be confused and scared off by, 'I want to buy bitcoins, wait I have to buy 350 Satoshis?  WTS is a Satoshi?"

a "bitcoin"

Anything that isn't the status quo will be attacked by those who are invested (emotionally, intellectually, or financially) in that status quo.

Most people's life philosophy consists of knee-jerk opposition to any conclusion that doesn't fit the conclusions they have been taught.

The only thing one can do is use and improve the product that isn't the status quo and hope the market does not stay irrational until after they die.

The updating of 'Total time logged in' is woefully slow to update.

Speaking of Bitcoin being great, I'm accepting bids for www.bitcoinisawesome.com if someone wants it before I decide what I want to do with it.

There's a good chance I want to develop it myself though.  Grin

Hi Everyone,

My partners and I will be launching a Bitcoin Services network in a few weeks.  We are currently internally testing and will be launching with an Options exchange and a USD/BTC exchange in late August or early September.

Over the weeks following our launch, we will be launching a Merchant Services API/Platform alongside a few other exciting services.

If you're interested in beta-testing or even just getting a sneak peek at the website, feel free to contact me (once I have the PM function in a few hours), and I will be more than happy to chat with any of you.

I look forward to getting to know a lot of you over the coming weeks and months.

Cheers.
