4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Recover founds old multisig coinbase wallet on: November 24, 2023, 04:59:29 PM
Can you please confirm the following address is correct, and definitely for receiving bitcoin:

1J7sNfSwSa4d4Fc5sd9Fgc5SVUizYH3hbV

Can you also confirm you are happy for me to pay an appropriate fee at the time of broadcast? At the moment, this will be around 14,000 sats ($5), which will give your transaction a fee rate of 41 sats/vbyte. This may change over the coming hours and days, but if it goes significantly higher I'm happy to wait until average fees come back down again.

Thank you o_e_l_e_o

I confirm you this adress it's the good adress i'ts from my account coinbase I checked once again.

About the fee no problem, go aheah.  I hope this history will finish soon... lot of years unhappy because I dont know how its works this bitcoin

thanks again

can also someone explain me why I have, bitcoin and bitcoin cash ?
It's called a Bitcoin Fork. I wrote a topic about it years ago, although the values are much lower by now, and most Forkcoins are worthless. But you'll own a few dollars worth of Forkcoins too. Chances are it's going to a be lot of work to recover them from your multisig, so if you don't move them, just keep your multisig in case it becomes worth more in 10 years (which I don't expect to be very likely).

thank you for the information, I went to your topic but it's hard to me to good understand.

I think it's o_e_l_e_o who will take cares in 10 years about the multisig Smiley hahah

I've checked OP's address, and the equivalent BCash address contains around $5 worth of BCash. I've not bothered to check any other forks.

Langostas - I will PM you with my ProtonMail address, which you can use to send me your keys and password if you are happy to accept the risk of doing so. You can also send some of the information via ProtonMail and some of the information via forum PM to keep it separate, if you prefer. I'll take a look at them when I get chance over the weekend and confirm your receiving address before I send you your coins.

Its a good idea I will put half information by PM and other half by Protonmail.

Thank you o_e_l_e_o  and have a good weekend at the same time.

OP has PMed me his three xpubs, which I have entered in to the tool locally and discovered an address containing coins which fits exactly with the story he has given in his first post.

The next steps will be for him to decide. Either we can help him try to set up the tool locally (preferred option!), or if that fails and if OP chooses then I would be willing for him to send me his seeds and password and I can sign and broadcast a transaction sending the coins from this address to another address of his choosing. Obviously any sensitive data being sent will need to be encrypted first, which will pose another challenge.

I'm posting this here in the interests of transparency.

Hello again o_e_l_e_o

I dont have any word to say thanks to you!!!

I dont have a very good level in computer.... I preferred the second option, but I undestand that means I need to have a lot a lot of confiance in you. and to be honest, from few years ago im very sad about this situation, because I havce some money but I cant recover it!

for give you one adress, like my normal adresss in Coinbase to receive any bitcoin is good ? its starting by number 1 if I remember good.

1J7sNfSwSa4d4Fc5sd9Fgc5SVUizYH3hbV

Im at your disposal, thank you Smiley

edit to put a picture from my coinbase exchange, with my bitcoin adress ( I think so)

I checked juste now, its seens its the good number

thank you!

So... thank you very much again to keep on for me, If I understand I  need to go to protonmail ( so i think i will put this name in google an I need to create a new account)
It's protonmail.com , which nowadays forwards you to proton.me . You can create a free account on https://proton.me/mail/pricing .

After recovery, you'll need a secure new wallet to send your Bitcoin to. Have you thought about that yet?

One minute ago I did my new account in proton.me/mail/pricing thank you

So... for the wallet, I putted here few messages ago my adress in Coinbase, when I go to "receive bitcoin" i see a QR code with the number of my wallet and I saw this information ... "only to receive bitcoin" so no other "netcoins I think"

can also someone explain me why I have, bitcoin and bitcoin cash ?

thank you, Im waiting for your instructions.

It seems to be that using PGP here is going to be too complicated.

Given that, I would opt for Loyce's suggestion of using ProtonMail for its end-to-end encryption. You can make an account for free, and I will supply you with my email address to send the keys to.

If you don't want to trust me then I can try to talk you through setting up and running this tool locally, but you've already said you would not feel comfortable installing and using Linux.

Hello o_e_l_e_o

What I need to do ?

Really LInux and all that, its not posible for me... and when I realised how much hours I spent already while all this time from few years ago to try to recover this found, Im thinking thats better for me to go handworking the same amount of hours and I will keep the same money that I have on the multisig coinbase wallet, this coin "bitcoin" I dont like at all.

I understud that if I give to you all my password
DO NOT do that! If you post your wallet data anywhere in public, your funds will most likely get stolen.

User o_e_l_e_o offered to help you. If you want his help, and if the amount is low enough for you to risk it and trust him, you should send him a PM. Or use a more secure method of communication, like Protonmail (this adds encryption without requiring technical knowledge).

Hello LoyceV

I understood the "public place situation" thank you, protonmail I dont know what is it.

Thanks for your answer!

Hey OP, I've helped a couple of users in the past in the exact same situation as you. The issue is that the Coinbase recovery tool uses a now-defunct API, so it cannot access the balance on your addresses and then won't progress to letting you try to sign transactions.

There are a couple of options available to you. The most straight forward one is here: https://github.com/dlajarretie/multisig-tool
This is a direct fork of the Coinbase tool with the defunct API replaced with a working one.
Here's a user who successfully used this tool: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5436171.msg61722006#msg61722006

If you are struggling to get this tool to run, then this thread might be of help to you: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5444779.msg61907765#msg61907765

Thank you for your help!

I saw this message from you in the post you sent me,

Have you at least managed to identify the addresses and balances you are trying to gain access to here? You mentioned to me in your PMs that you are not sure how much bitcoin is stored in this vault.

Since we are struggling to get this to work for you, if you like you could send me your three xpubs (not private keys) and I could at least look up the addresses and balance for you. The only thing you lose by doing so is privacy by account of me knowing the addresses - there is no way for me to steal your coins from only knowing your xpubs. At least then we would know if you are wasting all this time trying to recover a very small amount of money. If you like I can provide you with my PGP key so you can encrypt any communication.

And moving forward, since we can't seem to get this tool working for you, then we could instead try going down the path of manually extracting the necessary xprv from your two keys and then recreating the multi-sig wallet in Electrum.

There are some posibilities about me for that?   Im agree if a need to share with you my xpub, I have only this 10 euros, (now 800) in the bitcoin and Im not a advanced user only I would like to close this chapitre for me... because Im not relax, I have also the final adresse where there are the bitcoin

Thank you again!!!

Have a good day.

Try this NO IDEA IF IT WORKS OR NOT:
Go to https://github.com/pilsnerbeer/multisig-tool-fixed and under code download the zip file
Unzip the file to it's own folder by default by default it should put it in a folder called multisig-tool-fixed-master
In there there is a file index.html

If you do not have the chrome browser installed, get it from https://google.com/chrome

Once installed run it with the --allow-access-from-files parmamter and the index.html file

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/18586921/how-to-launch-html-using-chrome-at-allow-file-access-from-files-mode

-Dave

I tried this, but not working I think its me who are not good in that because.... I need a wallet starting by number 3.... I dont know how can i get one adresse bitcoin starting by the number 3. and also I think Im not done with the all acces files to chrome i dont know really how its works the cmc.exe or something like that. its very hard for me.... today I spent all my sunday to get some information on the net.... 12 hours since this morning and I have nothing so maybe I need to forget this money....

Thanks all you!! really!!! if one day you have a solution for  my problem tell me Smiley))))))))

edit,  I have also the final adresse where I have the founds, its a adresses starting by 3KN.......  i dont know if that can help

Good afternoon to all, thank you very much
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Recover founds old multisig coinbase wallet on: October 29, 2023, 04:30:42 PM
I have never also used Coinbase multi sig vault, through search I found out that you need to actual have some extended private key and if you have that then you can follow this guide to restore it in electrum https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2088713.msg20875786#msg20875786
The guide provided by Abdussamad in that thread won't help OP.
OP should recover a 2 of 3 multi-signature wallet. That thread is about recovering a 2 of 2 multi-signature wallet and is not related to OP's issue.

The weird thing is there is no announcement from Coinbase that they are going to terminate Vault Wallet and honestly creating a Vault Wallet does not generate a private key it requires only 2FA and another email as co-signer.
See this:

https://help.coinbase.com/en/coinbase/managing-my-account/other/the-multisig-vault

Coinbase multisig vault is 2 of 3 multi-signature wallet.

One of the keys is owned only by the user. One of them is stored by coinbase and the user has no access to that. One of the keys (which is encrypted) is owned by both coinbase and user.
If you own two of the keys, you must be able to spend your fund without relying on Coinbase and without any need to 2FA or email verification.

Yes I think i`ts that, I have all the information but how can I use them?

Thank you
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Recover founds old multisig coinbase wallet on: October 29, 2023, 01:31:30 PM
The vault tool from Coinbase no longer works:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5316286.0

But if you read to the bottom: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5316286.msg62141240#msg62141240

Someone did make a working version at least as of 6 moths ago or so.
I can't comment on the safety of it or if it still works but it did back then.

Once you run the tool if it does work move your coins ASAP.

-Dave

Hello Dave!!

Thank you very much for your reply, I saw this but I have no idea how its working...

The usage is 1:1 same as with the old tool. For complete instructions, visit https://github.com/coinbase/multisig-tool/blob/master/README.md

In short:

download & run the project with npm install and make run (also you will need python3 to be able to run local server)
input your xpubs in step 1, then (optionally) go offline and input the rest for step 2. NOTE: For destination address, use P2SH address (starting with "3"). Native SegWit (bech32) addresses (starting with bc1) reportedly do not work.
raw transaction will be generated. It will send 100% of your funds (minus the fee) to the destination address. You can use https://coinb.in/#verify to verify that it's looking good, mainly if the destination address is matching.
broadcast raw transaction using any bitcoin client (for example, run broadcast("....") in Electrum console)
you are done!

what is npm install? python3 Huh?  run local server I dont understand??? where is the link to download the project? I'm not very good with computers and internet so all this information its new for me  Huh Grin

Thanks again, maybe we found a solution for me !!!!!! Cheesy
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Recover founds old multisig coinbase wallet on: October 29, 2023, 01:10:44 PM
It seems you got an email from a scammer.
Are you sure we talking about Coinbase?
Another thing is why the email from Coinbase said you can only access the vault funds if you have these two keys?

The weird thing is there is no announcement from Coinbase that they are going to terminate Vault Wallet and honestly creating a Vault Wallet does not generate a private key it requires only 2FA and another email as co-signer.

Hello, thank you for your answer Smiley

A scammer is someone who try to stole you? I dont think so, because this was the answer after I putted a message in "Contact us" by coinbase exchange.

I dont really understud the email from coinbase... the answer for me was no really clair.

at the moment (2018) i dont see all the emails from coinbase stopping vault multisig, but I found one email, you will see, they informe me... Sad

Dear Valentin,

Following up on our previous message and blog post, we will be ending support for existing multisig vaults on Coinbase on April 19, 2018. Please remove all funds stored in your multisig vault prior to April 19, 2018.

Because this product is user-controlled, you can move funds with the two keys in your control but you will not be able to access the third key that Coinbase holds after this period. Please ensure that you have access to both keys.

After April 19, 2018, access to the multisig address associated with your vault will not be available on Coinbase.

If you have any issues, please see the FAQ at the bottom of this message.

Kind regards,

The Coinbase Team

FAQ

How do I access my multisig vault?
- Log in to your Coinbase account at www.coinbase.com. You cannot access your multisig vault using the mobile app.

- Navigate to the “Accounts” tab from the top of the screen.

- Select your multisig vault from your list of accounts.

- Press the “Withdraw” button on your multisig vault.

- Select one of your other non-multisig Bitcoin accounts to transfer your funds to, enter in the amount to transfer, and any two factor authentication codes if needed. Then press the “Continue” button.

- On the next screen, enter your vault password into the password field, then press the “Approve” button.

- Once approved, your withdrawal will enter the 48-hour waiting period before the funds are transferred. There is no way to bypass this waiting period.

What if I don’t know my vault password?
If you don’t know your vault password, you can instead copy/paste the user seed into the password field. This will allow you to approve your withdrawal. The user seed was provided to you when you created your multisig vault.

Where do I find my vault password or user seed?
Your vault password is the phrase you chose when you created your multisig vault. The user seed is a string of numbers/letters that was provided to you during the creation of your multisig vault. You should have stored or saved both of these pieces of information when you created your vault.

What if I forgot/lost my vault password or user seed?
Unfortunately, Coinbase cannot provide or recover your vault password or user seed to your multisig vault. This has always been the case for multisig vaults. The multisig vault specifically puts you in control of your own security, and Coinbase does not have access to your vault credentials.

Because the vault cannot be accessed without these credentials, if you have forgotten/lost BOTH the vault password AND the user seed, your vault funds will be inaccessible. We apologize that there is nothing further we can do to help in that case.

What if I use a group multisig vault?
If your multisig vault is a group vault, it requires multiple approvals from different people for each withdrawal. Once you initiate your withdrawal, you should contact the other people who are approvers on your vault and make sure they log in to Coinbase to approve the withdrawal.

To see a list of the people who are approvers on your multisig group vault, press the “...” button next to your vault and select “Vault Details.”

What will happen when Coinbase removes the multisig vault from my account list?
Once Coinbase removes multisig vaults from the account list, it will no longer be possible to access funds using the Coinbase interface. However, this open-source multisig tool will remain available and you can use that to withdraw your funds:

https://coinbase.github.io/multisig-tool/

Please note that the open-source multisig tool does not support group vaults.

If you have any additional questions, please reply directly to this message and we will be happy to help.

the problem the open-souce multisig tool is not working, so.... I dont know what to do.... I was silly to put the btc on a multisig, I'm not a PRO I dont know for what I did this....

but I would like to say once again, I have all my passwords... seeds... all... only I need the way to put then in a normal wallet.

I apreciate your help

I see on my coinbase account that I have around 800€ but no idea how can I put out to my bankaccount.
If you "see" your funds: are you talking about the wallet, or Coinbase the exchange? If it's Coinbase, you can sell your funds. If it's "the wallet", than I guess you have access already and can send your funds to an exchange to sell it.

Probably might be seeing the balance from an explorer by checking is address there, I doubt he has access already because he is asking of recovering the wallet

First: I've never used Coinbase Wallet, so I can't speak from experience.

Question:
I see on my coinbase account that I have around 800€ but no idea how can I put out to my bankaccount.
If you "see" your funds: are you talking about the wallet, or Coinbase the exchange? If it's Coinbase, you can sell your funds. If it's "the wallet", than I guess you have access already and can send your funds to an exchange to sell it.

Suggestion: sell some, but never sell everything. You have 8000% profit now, what if it goes up a lot more?

when I'm going in on coinbase, the exchange, I dont know if you can notive in my picture (first time I putted a picture on a forum) I see like my "account" is on 800€ but its not avaible to do some sell...

I already contacted coinbase exchange but no had any more reply from help.coinbase. Sad((((( it's for that I understud like Im alone for doing all that and im not really someone who are working on the sillicon valley with a lot a of competences Smiley

At all times, customers in possession of their two multisig vault keys were and are able to remove their BTC. Customers who are no longer in possession of their two keys are not able to access and remove their funds.

Unless you have access to your two keys, there is no access to the funds you left in the multisig vault.

Thanks,
Coinbase Support
