1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Forgotten password for a Bitcoin wallet from 2013 recovered, unlocking 43.6 BTC on: May 30, 2024, 01:17:21 PM

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it too advanced to get into Bitcoin now? on: February 20, 2024, 07:10:23 AM
Never back away from a good investment because the price is high, the good thing with Bitcoin is that you can buy fractions.
What you need is a strategy, it can be DCA, it can be one shots, you will have to find what suits you depending on your means and what you want for the future.

Do you believe in it ? I do and I don't even look at the price anymore.

4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do we need more influencial women in crypto to help the gender embrace it? on: February 15, 2024, 05:59:12 AM
""So how do we add emotion?""

I know a woman who just started Bitcoin and I can tell you emotions is not what you want in crypto !
She went a little mad and had some kind of mental breakdown because she was only thinking about it and became desperate when the price was going down and pure FOMO when it was going up.
She still calls me whenever the price pumps or dumps and asks me what to do ?!

You need to be cold as F when playing with money.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Importance of Consolidation, Especially with Dollar-Cost Averaging (DCA) on: February 14, 2024, 07:19:46 AM
Unfortunately, I missed the window to consolidate my small UTXOs while fees were low. Now they've skyrocketed again! Fingers crossed for another chance soon.

Just be patient and try to check every few days on mempool Smiley

Today I saw fees were pretty low so I decided to consolidate all my UTXOs, then I talked about it to 2 friends who didn't even know this was a thing so here is a post about it Smiley
[Guide] Consolidate your small inputs.

Introduce that topic to your friends as it is helpful for your friends to understand about UTXO consolidation.

Are you actively involved in dollar-cost averaging (DCA) to build your Bitcoin holdings over time? If so, it's essential to understand the concept of consolidation and how it can benefit your overall Bitcoin strategy.
With DCA, you will have to define yourself that how much money you plan to invest with each DCA time. It will decide you can withdraw it immediately after buying or have to wait for some DCA rounds before can afford to pay withdrawal fee.

Some websites for DCA and withdrawal fee checking.

Ty for all these links, very handy !
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The Importance of Consolidation, Especially with Dollar-Cost Averaging (DCA) on: February 12, 2024, 07:56:14 AM
Hey BitcoinTalk Community,

Today I saw fees were pretty low so I decided to consolidate all my UTXOs, then I talked about it to 2 friends who didn't even know this was a thing so here is a post about it Smiley

Are you actively involved in dollar-cost averaging (DCA) to build your Bitcoin holdings over time? If so, it's essential to understand the concept of consolidation and how it can benefit your overall Bitcoin strategy.

So, what exactly is consolidation?

Consolidation in the world of Bitcoin refers to the process of combining multiple smaller inputs (Bitcoin transactions) into a single larger input within your wallet. This means taking those scattered dust-sized fractions of Bitcoin and amalgamating them into more manageable, larger units.

Now, why is consolidation important, particularly for those employing DCA strategies?

Reduced Transaction Fees: As you accumulate Bitcoin through regular purchases or earnings, your wallet can become cluttered with numerous small inputs. When you eventually decide to spend or transfer Bitcoin, each input incurs its own transaction fee. Consolidating these inputs into larger ones reduces the number of inputs, thus decreasing transaction fees when you send Bitcoin.

Improved Transaction Efficiency: Consolidation streamlines the management of your Bitcoin holdings. With fewer inputs to track and manage, your wallet becomes more organized and easier to navigate. This can be particularly beneficial for those actively trading or sending Bitcoin frequently.

Enhanced Security: Consolidating your Bitcoin holdings can also improve security. With fewer inputs, there are fewer transaction details to manage, reducing the risk of errors or oversights that could compromise the security of your funds.

Optimized UTXO Set: Unspent Transaction Outputs (UTXOs) play a crucial role in Bitcoin transactions. By consolidating your inputs, you can optimize your UTXO set, potentially improving the efficiency and speed of future transactions.

If you're regularly accumulating Bitcoin through dollar-cost averaging, consolidation should be a key part of your strategy. It allows you to maximize the efficiency of your transactions, reduce costs, and enhance the overall management of your Bitcoin holdings.

However, it's essential to approach consolidation thoughtfully. Consider the costs associated with consolidation transactions, such as network fees, and weigh them against the potential savings in transaction fees over time. Additionally, be mindful of the privacy implications, as consolidation can reveal the connection between multiple inputs.

In summary, consolidation is a valuable tool for optimizing your Bitcoin holdings, especially for those employing dollar-cost averaging strategies. By consolidating your inputs, you can streamline your transactions, reduce fees, and enhance the security and efficiency of your Bitcoin wallet.

What are your thoughts on consolidation? Have you integrated it into your Bitcoin strategy? Share your experiences and insights below!

Happy hodling,

I was there first to try to make money, failed miserably and now I'm enjoying the tech and learning about its mechanics ( having my node etc )

10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Do you own a mining rig? on: January 17, 2024, 04:12:54 PM
I would but electricity is too expensive in my country.

You can have fun with a "lottery miner" like bitaxe though to understand mining things but forget about mining unless you go big with low elecricity cost.

Also read stickies, they are meant for these kind of questions...
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Any means of combining multiple output into 1 ? on: January 17, 2024, 03:52:06 PM
So my question is, is there any possible way of sending all the transactions out as one output to a new wallet in order for it to be smaller in size and the transaction fee to be lower?
Like it or not, fees are going to get even higher in next few years, so think about using some alternative option if you are constantly receiving smaller amount of bitcoin on many addresses.
Best way I found so far is to use L-BTC liquid network addresses, they will get consolidated for free using Aqua wallet, and when you collect enough coins and fees are not extremely high than you can swap them to on-chain Bitcoin.
Compatible wallets so far are Aqua wallet, Blockstream Green wallet, Jade hardware wallet, ledger wallet, specter wallet.

If the price of Bitcoin dumps, shouldn't we get lower fees ?
Even if it goes up for a few more months or even years who knows, there's a point where we will get small tx fees.

12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Effortlessly promoting Bitcoin, raising the curiosity of none bitcoin ethusiast on: January 07, 2024, 09:48:31 AM

2. Our physical items
This is also a superb way of raising the curiosity of a none Bitcoin ethusiast. When Items like shirts, cups, stickers, etc contains Bitcoin logo, and it's present in major parts of your house/environment, it would certainly raise questions from the people around. Sometimes, it might happen that the none Bitcoin ethusiast isn't the social type, but when he/she continues to see something that isn't familiar, then curiosity is certain.

There is definitely a possibility that someone who sees me might get curious but there is also a huge possibility that other people would just ignore the logo and then we have another possibility someone who is already well aware of what bitcoin is sees me wearing a shirt with a bitcoin logo or walking around with a cup with a bitcoin logo in it and attempts to put me in danger by stealing let’s say my phone which is ideally where i would have my wallets on

For me personally i just am not comfortable with parading myself around people who might have ill intentions towards me or my money

I agree with you, never advertise you have anything, we live in a world where people kill for a cigarette...
People who want to know will do their research.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We dont own enough bitcoin on: January 07, 2024, 06:49:30 AM
Bitcoin has a way of making people mad I think, it's so powerfull one might become obsessed with it.

As said before you have plenty of things in life to do to become "happy".

It's a good goal to have some but is it really that important ?!

14  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the bull run begun ? on: January 07, 2024, 06:38:55 AM
Bull run def ( by cambridge dictionnary ) : a time when the prices of most shares are rising.

So yeah I'd say yes since we've been on the uptrend for a year Smiley

Anyway, noone knows shit about fuck when it's prediction time !

16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Good portable HDD for cold wallet on: January 06, 2024, 10:49:59 AM
...

Your wallet is a hot wallet running on your online node. Your node runs in an OS which is exposed to some extend to the internet. Zero-day exploits or upcoming vulnerabilities of your OS, its components (use only the minimum necessary!) and maybe node could lead to an attack vector for malware.

It's unlikely you do nothing with your node and your wallet otherwise you won't need them. Your node just does its thing and keeps track of the blockchain and maintains your wallet's balance keeping track of relevant transactions and UTXOs related to your wallet.

To keep security up for the OS and your node & wallet living within:
  • keep the OS updated and hope updates don't introduce severe vulnerabilities
  • keep the OS as minimal as possible: less components, less potential attack surface
  • keep the OS behind a firewall and expose only strictly necessary ports to the internet (in most cases you're safe enough behind a NAT router's firewall)
  • don't do your daily internet shit on that machine, avoid using any browser on that machine, avoid email on that machine
  • full storage device encryption is recommend for that machine if it could get stolen by thieves
  • don't forget to have a decent and safe regular backup scheme for that machine, too (redundancy is key)
  • use a hot watch-only wallet on that machine and a decent hardware wallet to sign transactions (I don't speak of Ledger crap here); always, I mean ALWAYS, check carefully all transaction's outputs details on the independant display sceen of the decent hardware wallet; NEVER miss that step
Ok so I guess that's pretty much what I do so it's fine ( its an other pc just running the node, I'm not doing anything else on it )

I have to work on storage encryption and could you please explain your last point ?

The best post I have ever seen on recovery !

Thanks a lot again.
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Good portable HDD for cold wallet on: January 06, 2024, 06:22:54 AM
I have a bitcoin core full node and also using it as my wallet. Reading you all it seems bad because I'm connected to the internet but I do nothing except running the node.
What would you do ? and can you explain the steps for better security ?

PS : how can malware infect me if I do nothing on this PC/node ?

Hello I wanted to thank you all for this post where I learned many things I didn't know.

There's one thing I'm not sure about :

I read in many places that miners could "choose what transactions they resolve from the mempool" but somebody said quite loudly here that it is impossible ?

what's true and can you explain it ?
