What am I missing?

hmm you actually seem to be correct. though I would still lke more clarification.

I did think I had read that somewhere. So I went looking for confirmation before making the post. I looked in the FAQ, by the donation drop down, the front page of the blog articles because the archive button didn't work, and then read this entire post. Butsaw no mention of donations opting you out from anti-pool hopping detection.
So if there could be a blurb added to some location that's on the same page as other anti-pool hopping information I think that would help useablity a little.

I'm glad you have this system in place, and I'll go along my merry mining way, and try not to ask for features that already exist again.

It's right above the drop-down box on the account page. It displays when you have no donation set.

and he is the site owner.

edit: i'm back on the pool, and yeah in the user section it says right above the donation button that hopper protects go away for a donation.. not sure about their various user bans for not mining for any reasonable length of time.. but I'll see.. I'm donating 1% and if any site doesnt want to screw with us, i'd be willing to give them 1% as well

i do see posts of people still [getting banned with a donation set for being idle](http://www.bitcoinpool.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=166&p=3466&hilit=donation#p3466)

Can bithopper be set to send bcp 1 single share every so often, like every 30 minutes, to avoid hopping penalties?

Linux keeps doing wrong turns, the only one coming close to threat Windows, Lindows, was sued by Microsoft... they got it covered. I wonder if the new look of Ubuntu wasn't input by MS hired spies to grant that thing sinks before become any threat to Windows.

I always felt like Linux was behind the curve, never really innovating.  Everything they have done, was already done my Microsoft or Apple before.  Either way, competition is good.  Microsoft is much more worried about apple sales numbers than worried about Linux.

5  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which graphic cards work with gpu mining? on: August 07, 2011, 05:50:51 PM
Hi,

which graphic cards can I use for gpu mining?

I saw some with a ATI 5850 GPU was used - can I use cards from each card manufacturer with this processor for this purpose?

Thanks,

John

The question is whether the cards from each manufacturer are profitable.

Someone explain how a botnet can depress the value beyond increasing the difficulty?

Why would you join a pool with a buffer?  That is just unpaid shares.

That certainly can be helpful in the slots area, but the middle card doesn't have any extra room for that.  Unless you purchase more extenders and even then, I'm not sure if you can fit it below the cards like that.

If you wanted it in the drive bay, I'd imagine a single 80mm would do just as well as 3.

Bitcoin mining has become unprofitable for many due to electricity costs.  So, purchasing hardware solely for mining at this point is completely speculative.

Get an electricity meter, because I don't think it is profitable now that the market has tanked.

put a heat shield between your gpu and hard drives.  Look at your GPU's clock and bring it down.  Open the side of your case and see if it helps.

download the bitcoin client, download guiminer, pick and register at a pool, then setup an account at tradehill.

Pay attention to the CPU temps, but you should be ok as long it is only mining.  I agree also about the heat shield.  I have one behind each of my cards because air blows out the back and makes my hard drives extremely hot.

I'm not really sure how to best organize the air flow.  Is your side open?  Does your case mount vertically or horizontally?  I'm assuming you at least leave the case open because of the supplemental 80mm fan.  BTW, I'd upgrade that fan to a 120+mm and try and position it a bit differently.

Fans when they sit very close to an object will have a dead zone in the center where the motor is.  Simply backing your fan off a couple inches will help, but so will adjusting it so that the motor doesn't sit directly on top of the gpu.  You may notice a 1-2c change in temps for your middle card with that simple adjustment.  If you put a new 120 or 140 mm fan over the cards you can move the 80mm to the 5.25 bay.  You may need to play with the positioning and the direction so that it keeps the your memory, cpu, and the gpu stable.

Another thing to consider is to put the drive bay gpu upside down--meaning the gpu fan facing the floor if your case is vertical and just like the cards attached on the mobo.  Unless you are willing to cut a hole in your case above the drive cage, it may work better with the natural airflow direction.

5830 runs about 275 without bios adjustment.  Easily can get over 300 if I push it.
5770 at about 220.

If its only a mining rig consider xfce4 or strictly Xorg
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: can i cable tie a video card to the 5.25 drive part? on: August 04, 2011, 08:37:13 PM
Cable ties with extenders are fine.  Depending on your card and case, you may even be able to drill a hole where the screw goes to screw it in place.  Additionally, consider using some shelf liner to prevent metal contact and be conscious of the air flow because air flows out of the card in multiple directions.  If you can add a fan to help exhaust it will help your temps.

Add some pics and maybe we can be of more assistance.

Sandboxie is a great app, I highly recommend it, but it won't protect your wallet.
