You need to add a worker in your BitMinter account.

For example, my workers are Home and Work. You need to define a password for each.

Then:

The extra flags is -v -w128 for your cards. The Username must be Username_Worker (example for me: Soak_Home).

Thank you soak for all the info. I just got back from work and I see I have 7k proofs of work. Seems like it is working just fine for now.

For now Ill be using the GuiMiner since I cant get the bitminter app to work, should I add anything in particular to the extra flags section ?

You will find all the flags used for your cards here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison

For the Java miner, have you administrator rights?

Yes even when running as admin it doesnt work.

Ok so this is what was written on the mining hardware part

-k phatk platform=0 device=0 VECTORS BFI_INT AGGRESSION=11 worksize=128 FASTLOOP=false, mem clock @ 228MHz, voltage @ 1.25, Fan @ 40%, Temp @ 73C

So I would put in my extra flags what ?

Sorry if im so newbish

The only one diffenrence between large and small pools is the frequency of rewards. Large pool pay fast but less, and small pool pay slower but more (especially if the pool have luck and there are a bit of miners).

You have a large choice of pools, but I recommend for you BitMinter. It's a small pool with no fee, a pretty look and better miner than other (expecially on 6xxx cards, try it) and the pool owner is very available.

Here an overview of the miner:

I registered, confirmed my email and all, but when I clik on start mining ( on the website) it opens a bitcoin picture and then the picture just dissapears, I dont see the actual application and I cant mine. Looked at my vid cards they are both at 0-1% activity

You need to install the miner through Java (for automatic updates and more).

Could you go about explaining how I would do that?

When I click the icon I see the java32.exe process coming up in processes but I dont see no interface at all.

Hello, I am new to bitcoins and I really want to be part of a pool. I am currently running 2 x 6870's and get about 500 mhash/s

I was wondering which pool should I join to get the most out of it. My computer runs 24/7 and I don't need my video card for gaming right now and probably wont for the next several months.

(Computer has been on without reboot for the past 28 days)

So which pool should I join ?

Advice would be greatly appreciated. As I can see each person's opinion seems to be different about joining very large pools or smaller ones. With the setup I will be using what should I do ?

I would like to agree with what others have said already. Trying to ban bit-coins will only attract more adopters.
And besides, if they do try and ban it, it's just gonna result in something similar to what is happening with torrents.
Shut one site down, 10 more will pop up.
And there are too many people using these for them to go after everyone, so they will most likely just make "examples" out of the biggest users.

As a total noob who just heard about bit-coins tonight, I was also wondering this. As far as hardware goes, I already have 2 x hd6870 in crossfire that I used for gaming. But until Battlefield 3 comes out I wont be doing nay gaming at all. Also I live in Quebec and since we basically have the biggest electricity infrastructures in North America and supply a big part of Canada and a big part of the North East of the US, our electricity here in Quebec is fairly cheap.

I will be definitely trying this out. Any good recommendations on which pool to join? I was thinking about joining the Continuumpool since its located in Canada.
