1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: RPC authentication with Bitcoin Core failed (spectre) on: May 07, 2024, 07:50:48 AM
Nothing about my problem made sense to me. I originally installed it in F://bitcoin wherein there was two independent bitcoin.conf files. One in the install path and the other in the data directory. I did edit both during those few hours I was trying to figure out the issue. The config file opened through the gui was the one in the data directory. The password and user was the same as spectre. Spectre did not automatically detect, nor did it accept my password or user info. Yeah maybe there is no way to tell exactly what the problem was or why this solved it since technically I have two copies of bitcoin core installed. The newer installation, now located on my C drive which just points to the data directory on my F.

I reinstalled the bitcoin using the default paths, keeping the data folder on a separate hdd. Spectre automatically detected the software. Everything is working fine. The password/username's being rejected probably has something to do not installing bitcoin core in the default installation paths. I would recommend installing bitcoin core in the default installation path. Once installed, from within the software change the directory of the data folder to your alternative hdd. This way Spectre still automatically detects bitcoin core and you dont fill up your sdd or m2 card with the blockchain. Maybe this helps someone new, like myself, when installing and connecting these programs for the first time.

Hey, i've been trying to connect spectre to bitcoin core for a few hours now. The rpcpassword=b and rpcuser=a in my config file. On spectre these credentials are rejected when attempting to connect. I cannot understand why, perhaps i am missing something. I am 99% certain the password and user info in the config file is identical to the inputs on spectre.

I'm not sure what else to try. If there is some bug?
