You can. However, this asset will stay active after the end of the presale. In this way, it provides a market for ether before it officially gets traded on an exchange.

They serve different purposes and are both useful. This asset just lets you convert back and forth if you like. If you prefer NXT, stick with it!

Update August 24, 2014:

The ether redemption will work as follows:
1) After the ethereum genesis block is released, redemption will be available
2) To redeem the ether, transfer your assets to the issuer address: NXT-7LSS-UUWW-GZH5-EGYY6
3) Include a message with your transfer. The message should be your ethereum address where you want your ether sent to
4) Once the asset transfer is confirmed on NXT, the ether will be sent to the address provided

A token is now available on the NXT asset exchange that can be used to buy/sell ethereum BEFORE the genesis block is released. Once the genesis block is released, owners of this asset will be able to redeem their tokens for ether on the ethereum network (or continue to hold, if they wish to do so).

We have purchased some ether in the official presale to facilitate this market. If there is enough demand, we will create more assets by utilizing additional ether bought in the presale.
