~~~ Can you try to present the details in an ordered and concise manner? I try to interpret the mess... You have one BTC account labeled "Bitcoin 2" from Ledger Nono #1. You seem to have lost the mnemonic recovery words for the wallet of Ledger Nono #1. Is this correct so far? Do you know the PIN to unlock Ledger Nono #1? (Required to be able to move funds out of this wallet.) If you still know the PIN of Ledger Nono #1, this is your ticket to move all funds off this wallet. DO NOT reset Ledger Nono #1 until you moved all funds from it. You have another BTC account labeled "Bitcoin 3" from a second Ledger Nono #2. You have the 24 mnemonic recovery words for this wallet? You have the unlock PIN for the wallet of Ledger Nono #2? Try to reply to every question to sort the details out. It's then easier to give accurate advise how to proceed. No, I have 1 ledger nano device I used to set up the Bitcoin 2 account on the live app on my phone but that nano ledger device wasn't being recognized by the live app when trying to transfer, so I attempted to restore the nano via the 24 PW's on a new phone but it says there's £0.00 on it (So may have saved wrong 24 PW's) I have a 2nd nano ledger device I used to set up Bitcoin 3 that the live app does recognize fine and I can send transactions from. I can see both Bitcoin 2 and Bitcoin 3 accounts on the live app on my phone. My phone is the only place I can see the Bitcoin 2 funds as when I set up the nano ledger on a new device it reads £0.00 (Again as seems I saved the wrong 24 PW's) So am reluctant to throw this phone away as is the only place can see the Bitcoin 2 funds What I wish to do is transfer the funds from my Bitcoin 2 account to my Bitcoin 3 account
As said I do not have the 24 passwords for Bitcoin account 2. By PIN CODE are you referring to the pin code for the ledger to verify transactions etc, as the same ledger was used to make Bitcoin account 3 afterwards with a new set of 24 passwords of course.
Thanks again
I set up 1 BTC account on the ledger live app on my phone I then set up a 2nd BTC account using a different ledger on the same ledger live app on my phone
I have them titled Bitcoin 2 and Bitcoin 3 on my ledger live app, and the app shows the total of both together until I select either Bitcoin 2 or Bitcoin 3 then I only see that accounts funds. I may have lost the 24 passwords for the Bitcoin 2 account so currently can only move money from the Bitcoin 3 account
is there a way of me moving the funds from my Bitcoin 2 account to my Bitcoin 3 account on my ledger as I currently cant access the Bitcoin 2 account?
Thank you
I do still have the Ledger device I set up with the correct PW's I then lost Well then it turns out that I misunderstood you ). In that case you just need to figure out what the problem is. Does your computer see the device? Could the problem be in the usb-cable or connector? Would you know if there is a way to get past PW's used on a ledger device from it?
There is no way to get seed phrase out of the device. My computer does see the Ledger device but the Live acc doesnt recognize it I set up the Live acc and the ledger did allow me to send and receive several transactions using the Ledger, but when I tried to use the ledger a week later it didnt recognize it. So I restored the Ledger via the 24 PW's I had saved My thinking is that the initial nonrecognition of the Ledger device may have been some simple error, but when I restored the device using what I now believe to be the wrong PW's the previous Live acc is now inaccessible
Yes, I restored the Ledger with the old PW's it seems and the new ones were lost. Then if I understand your situation correctly, along with the 24 words you lost access to your coins. You need those 24 words, not any other. It's not a password that can be changed, it's a seed phrase from which private keys are calculated. Also, will I still be able to obtain my Private key without my 24 PW's? No. I do still have the Ledger device I set up with the correct PW's I then lost Would you know if there is a way to get past PW's used on a ledger device from it?
|
|
but then I restored the device using old PW's as hadnt saved the new ones by accident.
That's the one I don't really get. You say old and new PW's, that means you had two sets of 24 words, right? So after sending the transaction, you restored the ledger with the other words, and the first ones were lost? Yes, I restored the Ledger with the old PW's it seems and the new ones were lost. Also, will I still be able to obtain my Private key without my 24 PW's? Thanks again
I do see the derived Bitcoin addresses with their corresponding private keys on the far right side, what do I do with them?
Regarding the Bitcoin address I used, the addresses are showing on my live app so they are noted
Some wallets allow you to import individual addresses and private keys (like Electrum for example), so you dont even need a 24-word mnemonic backup in that case. In Electrum, run the Create new wallet wizard and select "Import Bitcoin Addresses or Private keys". Be careful when copying and pasting private keys, and make sure your devices are secure and protected. Anyone with access to your private keys will have unrestricted access to your funds as well. (Some wallets allow you to import individual addresses and private keys (like Electrum for example), so you dont even need a 24-word mnemonic backup in that case. Will I still be able to do this many months down the line? Or is time a factor? Thanks So All I need to do is use my BTC address the funds were sent to (device no longer have PW's for) and I can return the funds to the BTC address I sent them from? Thanks again
Happened to me before but I realized that I have 2 set of 24 word password for my old and new account. My ledger live shows my balance on my old account while my 24 word password I’m using is for my new account.
Is it possible that you use different 24 word password?
if I did use a second set of passwords I no longer have them. You can easily verify that the 24 words you have are the same as those entered into your device. The Recovery Check application is available for this purpose. https://support.ledger.com/article/360007223753-zdAlso, this Ledger worked fine a few days ago
What do you mean by “worked”? Did you send a transaction a few days ago? Yes I sent a transaction fine the day I set up the ledger but a week later it didnt recognize my Ledger device. I then tried to restore the ledger using my 24 PW's and it still doesnt recognize my Ledger. My current guess is that The initial nonrecognition of my Ledger may have been a simple error but then I restored the device using old PW's as hadnt saved the new ones by accident.
How would I move the funds to the Electrum wallet if my live account is not recognizing my ledger?
have you tried to follow instructions in this article and faced a challenge? - https://support.ledger.com/article/115005161925-zd?redirect=false
using my passwords on the iancoleman site, I am seeing several codes such as BIP32 Extended private key, Extended public key etc, as well as a list of Path addresses starting m/0/0 etc
Where do I go from here to retrieve the funds?
Thanks again
You need to scroll further down. You will see each of the derived Bitcoin addresses with their corresponding private keys on the far right side. But you need to be sure which type of Bitcoin address you used for your wallet. But I don't think all this is necessary if you can set up your Wallet using electrum. I set up the wallet using electrum but it shows no total and no transactions My actual total and my transactions are still showing on the Ledger live app on my phone, but it wont recognize my Ledger device
I have Electrum open on my phone now but how do I add the funds from my Ledger live acc to it without using the ledger device that its not recognizing?
You mentioned you have 24 word recovery seed and that is what needed to restore your wallet on electrum since you're HW isn't recognized. You just follow the simple process Create New wallet => Standard Wallet => I already have a seed => Enter those 24 words and please check BIP39 check boxOnce you have done this, you successfully restore the wallet and all the funds left. I did it but its showing 0.00 with no transaction history When it should show a total and 5 transactions if there was a mix up with my passwords somehow and now my ledger device is useless Can I retrieve the funds another way? The funds were sent to this ledger account from my other ledger account I do still have access to btw (Only strange thing is the device worked fine on this account a few days ago)
^ it seems the Electrum doesn't detect your HW which is why it shows the standard options of creating new wallet. Make sure the HW wallet is detected and try repeating the same, so you will not expose the seeds to Electrum.
If it doesn't work then try import the wallet via recovery seeds to access the funds but keep that in mind once importing voids the purpose of cold wallet so never use the same wallet again for storing, use a freshly created ones for future storage.
but would your ledger live still show the balance if you were still signed in with your old passwords as well? Or would both accounts show the total but only the new account could move the funds? Thanks again
I get what’s wrong with your Ledger but you can try updating the device maybe theirs is a latest firmware. If the wallet still shows the coins are still their then it is not moved and can easily be restored on another wallet
But should the problem persists then you can simply use other wallets like electrum or any other reputable wallet on an airgapped device or you can still go for another hardware wallet and move your funds their as ledger device isn’t even advice of recent for use due to their seed phrase recovery process
How would I move the funds to the Electrum wallet if my live account is not recognizing my ledger?
Your crypto is not lost or inaccessible, you just have a Ledger device error.
If you remember what the derivation path Ledger used when you created the wallet was, you can simply type it into any wallet software along with the 24-word seed.
I'm not going to recommend anything, but Sparrow Wallet in particular allows you to manually specify the derivation path.
So if you've got legacy addresses it should be m/44'/0'/<account-number>' <-- the account number is probably 0 unless you made more accounts. [/quote
if its a ledger device error, will accessing the account using the 24 passwords on a new ledger fix this? From what you wrote: unlikely. Any chance you setup a "25th word" as extra passphrase? If you did, you'll need it again to reach the same "account". See this article. I did not set up a 25th word Failing a new device working my other avenue is the derivation path suggestion above. Would appreciate some guidance on retrieving the funds via the derivation path if anyone can help Thanks
My concern is that the funds are not on the wallet/Ledger device somehow as when I check this wallet on ledger live on a new phone the wallet total shows as 0.00 ~ Your funds are not on the Ledger device or in the wallet, but on the blockchain. You can export xPub (extended public key) from your Ledger wallet and use it to check your balance and all your previous transactions on the public blockchain explorer. This article might help you: How to analyze a Bitcoin (BTC) account xPubI have found the transaction on the blockchain using the xpub from my other Ledger I sent it from How will this help me retrieve my funds? Thanks
if by Wallet you mean the Ledger device My concern is that the funds are not on the wallet/Ledger device somehow as when I check this wallet on ledger live on a new phone the wallet total shows as 0.00 I can only see the actual total on Ledger live on my original phone but this live account doesnt recognise my Ledger device now
I set up a new Ledger device and Ledger live account, sent a few transactions to and from the account using the Ledger device fine.
I tried to send another transaction today and get the error message: Something went wrong Please check that your hardware wallet is set up with the recovery phrase or passphrase associated to the selected your account. I tried restoring my Ledger device using my 24 passwords but Ledger live still doesnt recognize the device.
When I plug my Ledger into a new device with Ledger live downloaded it shows the total as 0.00
As the actual total is still showing on my previous device I am guessing the funds have not been moved, but not sure how to access them as is not recognizing the ledger device
Any ideas what could be up?
(Sorry is second post related to same issue but quite concerned)
Just an update.. When I use the Ledger to add an account to a Ledger live account on a new device, it shows a total of 0.00 I set this Ledger live account up only a few days ago on a previous device, sent a transaction fine using my Ledger device, but now Ledger live doesnt recognise the Ledger device. if my concern was that maybe someone got hold of my passwords since I set up the account and did something to secure the funds, would I still be seeing the actual total on my previous device? Thanks again all
