6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin Solving inequality? on: September 14, 2025, 06:59:59 AM
I really had this question in my mind and wanted to ask was that one of the core principle and aim of Bitcoin is providing equal services and treat people equally without discrimination. But If we look at it from the perspective of "Power" it is creating a new generation of people who hold power I.e the early adaptors of Bitcoin (whales) who hold significant economic influence because they accumulated Bitcoin was undervalued.

So is it really solving the problem of inequality or Creating a new generation of people who hold power and shifting the inequality into a new form?( New Elites?)
Would love to hear your thoughts.

Bitcoin was initially created to eliminate trust during transactions, i.e providing a trustless transactional system where it is not required to have to trust anyone with your transactions by eliminating 3rd party interference, this leverages on cryptography and Blockchain technology to provide adequate security measures during these transactions (but unfortunately, these days we do have 3rd party interference in the form of CEX)
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin with capital "B" and bitcoins with lowercase "b" on: September 10, 2025, 11:32:49 PM
New learning.

I just noticed this in the advertising section of the forum.
Quote
The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.
Image: http://prntscr.com/mblnlf

Meaning when I am paying someone in Bitcoin then I am sending him bitcoins  Smiley

We are Bitcoiners and bitcoins are our currency.

Thank you.

Is this a fact? Cause when we go to English, the protocols is more of an abstract noun compared to the coin, so I feel personally, the reverse should be the case
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Uses of the big and small letter of Bitcoin [btc] on: September 10, 2025, 11:25:26 PM
I decided to make more research on this educative topic.

Many of us don't know when to use the big and small letter of Bitcoin. And here I will differentiate the two though there are almost the same but they have different usage.

The CAPITAL "B" of the Bitcoin is the network protocol of the asset. In other words it is the whole system of bitcoin. When you are referring Bitcoin as a whole, you used the capital letter. Example. pooya87 uses Bitcoin network to send the coins (bitcoin) to philipma1957.  The capital B is the protocol (the rules Bitcoin is governed) and moves from one wallet to another (the movement in the Blockchain)
Bitcoin: the network

Small Letter "b". The small letter "b" in bitcoin is used when referring to the currency or the coin. That is the unit of bitcoin you have is called as bitcoin with small letter. Examples. klarki gave 20 bitcoins to 1miau as birthday gift. CryptopreneurBrainboss sent 10 bitcoin to Mia Chloe to support orphanage.
bitcoin: The Currency/Coin

The uses of BTC
BTC basically used for the currency or the coin but it use for the two. Bitcoin and bitcoin.
Igebotz has 100 BTC. Or Fillippone sent the coins on BTC network. The first sentence is the coin (currency) while the second sentence is the network.

You can see more information on this here:
Bitcoin with capital "B" and bitcoins with lowercase "b"

Is Bitcoin Capitalized? Uppercase "B" vs Lowercase

Did you learn new thing from this?

But if we bring this to English language I think the coin should be the capital B instead, cause it's a noun, and the network is more of an abstract noun compared to the coin, although you can't touch it, but you can see and use it, so in the rules of noun, you give more weight to concrete noun than abstract.
This is just my take in this
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: He saved himself, or BTC saved him?? on: September 10, 2025, 01:55:49 AM
I never thought I would witness something like this unfold in real life, especially close to home.

I have an uncle who has always loved technology. That's all I really knew about him when I was younger. He was a government worker at the time, and everything seemed fine. He was married with two kids, and life was going well until he had an accident.

The accident cost him both of his legs. Since then, his wife took over everything, and they moved far away from us, which caused our relationship to fade. Now, all we do is talk on the phone.

The last time I heard anything about him was when my mom told me that his wife had divorced him. He had no money or means to take care of his family which lead to the divorce but he did do something right.

In those days when we used to discuss technology, he mined Bitcoin (BTC) in an old pool. He referred to his mining rig as the "7970." However, since the value of Bitcoin wasn't very high at the time, he just left it in an old wallet.

A few days ago, he called my mom, saying he needed to speak to me. I later got in touch with him, and he asked me how to import his BTC private key. He said, "Do you remember that I mined Bitcoin with the 7970?" I replied yes, and he mentioned he didn't know how to import the key.

He was quite sure that he had something left in the wallet. After helping him out, I discovered he had 0.48 BTC in there. This has saved him, I believe. He wanted to send me something as a thank-you, but I refused because he needed the money more than I did.

His son doesn't look back, the daughter married to another man and they are out of the country. I hope we don’t end up having children who will never look back and take care of us in the future.

Please understand that I don’t like discussing my family online, but this experience has been surprising and provided a valuable lesson. It's a reminder for those who are taking care of their families without planning for their own futures. Your partner can leave you, your child can become indifferent, so always have something set aside just in case.
All I can hear here is, marriage and love is not what they told us it is, or how we thought it is, and besides, initially, ur partner was a stranger, the only sad thing here are his children, God bless ur Uncle.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will banks One day accept Bitcoin deposit? on: September 10, 2025, 01:38:44 AM
One day banks will accept Bitcoin as medium of exchange and accept deposits from bitcoiners. As soon as the world powers accept it as medium of exchange.
Nah.....I don't think that will happen, here's why, every country do have a means of exchange for goods and services that directly or indirect affects the standard, values, and wealth of that country, accepting Bitcoin as a legal tender have no benefit for a country more than how they are benefiting from it now, which is taxing cexes, taxing traders, e.t.c basically taxing so nah...I don't see it happening anytime in the future.

Although they can incorporate Blockchain and cryptography into the financial system to foster security but adopting Bitcoin, nah...twill be difficult.

--Edited out--
As much as we want Bitcoin to be "free" from middleman, there's nothing we can do to stop centralized entities from getting involved in it. After all, it's a free market. Centralized exchanges started to dominate the market from the very beginning, and now banks and "Wall Street" are getting in the game.

What's important is that most of Bitcoin's circulating supply ends in the hands of the people. As long as this is the case, we should have nothing to worry about. Fortunately, entities hold less than 1% (sort of) of the circulating supply. I hope that number stays low forever. Otherwise, it would be the end of an era. All good things must come to an end, right?

Well you are right in some, cause even though we want an enclosed system, if it had stayed so, I don't think Bitcoin would have been as big as it is today
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Merit] Share your best posts/threads with Fillippone to be merit assessed on: September 09, 2025, 09:37:42 AM

Why are you in such a hurry, if you are in such a hurry then earn merit through your own efforts. Because @fillippone is not getting merit at the speed at which users are posting every day. As a merit source, @fillippone applies the entire merit that is accumulated every month to the entire forum. @fillippone is not limited to this help topic only, he has to run the entire forum.

Is that what the issue really is, cause I thought I saw a post where he said the reason for the delay is due to the fact that the tools he uses in checking for those that have posted in less than a week is down or something in that line, I'm not sure

ROUND 1

16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Satoshi saw today’s Bitcoin, would he call it a failure? on: August 19, 2025, 05:38:09 PM

I don’t think he’s happy, considering he hasn’t touched his Bitcoin in about 15 years. Reports say he holds around 1 million BTC, so why isn’t he spending any of it? Maybe he’s just waiting for the day he surpasses Warren Buffett, like some news outlets have speculated.

This is a poor take in my opinion, not selling doesn’t mean he is not happy with it, he might have actually leave off is bitcoin just to support the network more, do you know what FUD it will create that Satoshi move his coin out? Talk more of selling or taking anything like profit? That’s simply someone not believing totally in his own innovation, best he will do is to use it for peer to peer exchange he will never moved it to any currency.

Further more it is wrong to even think that Satoshi would want to overtake anyone in terms of wealth, if Satoshi was about this he would made more bitcoin to his name through mining more or through a mechanism that still gives him more, which today would have entirely killed bitcoin

How do you know so much about what Satoshi wants, heck that name might not even be a real name, but in any case, I think as far as BTC whitepaper goes, which is the safest way to tell what he wants, BTC has been successful so far and have achieved what it was meant for, a trustless based transaction so yeah he was successful, after all he made it so it will be successful, but I think he would be(is) super proud of how BTC have gone so far, I mean if you were the owner of BTC, won't you be proud
17  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk API key on: August 17, 2025, 10:44:30 AM
Hello Bitcointalkers I'm a web dev, I'm trying to design an app that can send push notifications directly to ur phone(iOS and Android) on new PM's, mentions, notifications, monitored threads, participated threads, posts on created threads, e.t.c.

But the issue is there is no API to get these unless the user login their credentials in the app(the login details will be saved locally and the code will be open source so as to see that the user's details are private).

How can I overcome this hurdle, can their be trust or is there a way to get API keys to achieve this
I believe you can't get API keys, and users won't be interested in your apps either, where they need to submit their account credentials. I am pretty sure theymos isn't interested in creating apps, as he doesn't even create official social media for this forum. The forum is quite sensitive; those who provide a few services, like mention bot or public data, have scraped the data from the forum and saved it. It needs to be updated always with the time.

There are a few services that exist on the forum that you have mentioned, like the notification bot. For PM users usually receive mail notifications, which is a good thing to not miss the forum PM. For me, I'm not interested in logging in from an unauthorised app or extension. Honestly, I haven't been using any bots or extensions for the forum.

Although, the app is just a tool to send notification so as we can keep up with activities we are already engaged in.

I came up with the idea cause I made a thread and I actually forgot about it because I've been preoccupied with other things, but if there is a way to send notifications on activities, it will actually create a reminder and awareness on activities here which we are interested in and it will be easy to follow up and keep up. But anyways, thanks for your input I'll keep that on mind
18  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk API key on: August 16, 2025, 11:38:30 AM
Ofc I can't get pm's and all, but the API key will be like an access permission without putting your sensitive credentials, you know what I mean

I do understand, but that's not possible. Users cannot generate API keys, so you would either:

1. Make an app/extension that actually connects to the user accounts using his credentials (no one would use this unless it's open source, and run in the client side)
2. Or, an extension that would use your current session in your browser (obviously that comes with certain limiations).

Thanks for the tip
19  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk API key on: August 16, 2025, 09:59:18 AM
You cannot request data using API keys. You would have to scrape the data (threads, mentioned posts, etc.) manually and work on that. For PMs, that's not doable unless you make the user run an extension or his own script locally to get those information's.

Ofc I can't get pm's and all, but the API key will be like a limited/controlled access permission without putting your sensitive credentials, you know what I mean.

I've thought about scraping, but the information gotten will be very limited
