Just voted - after you vote, it shows how the votes stand.

It's good to know if you participate just before the contest ends.
2  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Win 2 BTC and $500 - Predict the Price of Bitcoin at Christmas! on: December 11, 2014, 10:56:44 AM
I think it will be $320 To $340

That's a wide range, you need to be closer to win I think. Good luck though.

In 5 days there'll be no more predictions.
I guess I'll post a few more.

I'm getting a little confused here - are we supposed to post it here as well?

Wow, 2 BTC & $500  Grin

But, i think it's bad idea to put the prediction at youtube.
A lot of people can abuse it by using multiple account

You better do it here, and with minimum post & no negative trust
And i hope bitcoin price not going down below $250  Grin

Yeah, otherwise I would prefer the 2d prize over the 1st.

you're joking, I hope.
I'm in and my say is $375
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IBM and Samsung will use Blockchain technology for the "Internet of Things" on: September 21, 2014, 07:51:32 PM
It sounds like Adept, their blockchain, will put checkpoints out there (to say, bitcoin's blockchain) and hope that that secures it enough.

At least to wherever they put a note out there as a checkpoint. That's an amusing thing to do, IBM could have an address out there on the blockchain and occasionally, say daily, sign a transaction that acts like a checkpoint for their own chain. The costs of that could be really low, say 0.0001 to 0.0005 bitcoin. Fund the original address with a bitcoin and you're rolling.

Then if Adept comes under heavy and obvious denial of service attack, then they could go back to a checkpoint. If Adept comes under slow and stealthy attack, there would be nowhere to checkpoint back to that would be reasonable and they'd have to start over.

Just use bitcoin and colored coins from the beginning and save yourselves the trouble guys Wink
Depends on if there's more features here in Adept than it seems.

You're correct. Checkpoints won't save them. What all of the "blockchain is the real technology" evangelists fail to recognize is the POW function requires a value to secure itself. You can't separate the currency from the blockchain and expect a secure network. I guess we'll need to wait for more info.

Russia = One step backwards, two steps back.

It's okay, soon they'll do a complete 360 turn in their policies and carry on going backwards

How long should I set aside to take the exam?
Do you or do you plan on offering discounts for students?

This is just embarrassing... Total ignorance of the problem satoshi was setting out to solve.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Do People Believe Bitcoin Will Replace Fiat? on: August 31, 2014, 08:45:56 PM
Mining isnt about processing transactions, it is about fairly distributing coins and preventing anyone from cornering the market.

How does mining accomplish this? Last I checked most coins are falling into the hands of financially well off miners with huge mining farms. Massive capital investments are now needed to run a profit mining, it's a system that only allows the rich to become richer.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How will we stop the evil free market Chinese? on: August 31, 2014, 08:38:49 PM
About 150 bitcoins are spread among miners every hour. They are freshly created, specifically for the miners profit, so they don’t steal anyone’s coins.
edit: also the mining farms don’t do anything meaningful (most of the computations are immediately discarded), they mine for the sake of mining, to register the owner as a person on top of the pyramid.

I wouldn't say they don't do anything meaningful. The computations are required work in order to solve the Byzantine Generals Problem.

I wish blocks were 1 minute apart, not 10.
