1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if people already know you hodl alot of coins on: September 24, 2025, 12:30:11 PM

Step 1: Coinjoin to make your on chain funds private
Step 2: Fake a "boating accident" where you tragically lose the keys for spending those coins

Lol. Never expected such idea but I think you are on point.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What if people already know you hodl alot of coins on: September 24, 2025, 11:33:55 AM
One of the top security tips for holding bitcoin is not to let anyone know you are holding it as it will endanger both your life and your coins.  Then this taught comes in, what if your holding is no longer a secret, how do you manage such condition? How do you secure yourself and your coins?

Well, I composed this as suggestion to help vulnerable members who failed to take precaution of one of the most important security tip. I will divide this into two sections;

1. Wallet security
2. Physical/Personal security

1. Wallet security: Since people are aware you hodl bitcoin you should be strict with your wallat security. The following suggestions should help;

a. Use Multisig Wallets: Of course you know that in multisig wallets, multiple private keys are needed to sign transactions before the coin can be used or spent. This will help prevent prevent a single compromise or coercion from draining all your bitcoin asset.

b. Segregating Holdings: splitting holding can also be of help. Store large bulk in cold, hidden storage and then keep a small portion on a hot wallet for day to day transactions this way, if you are ever forced to send some coins only a small portion of it will be at risk.

c. Diversify Brands of Hardware Wallets: Some coins can be stored in Trevor while the remainder can be stored in Ledger Nano x as the case maybe. This way, bug or an exploit in one type will not compromise everything.

2. Physical/Personal Security: As we all know, robbery is always associated with physical assault, so here are some suggestions that may reduce the possibility of such occurrence.

a. Install security devices such as CCTV cameras, alarms, motion sensor, etc as this will help you track strange activities around you.

b. You can also employ trusted security personnel or bodyguard if the threat level justifies this, especially if you are a public figure.

c. Also ensure to keep you location and travel plans undisclosed in order to reduce profiling by potential attackers.

d. Should there be any need to relocate from your existing neighbourhood? Please do, your potential attacker might just be your next door neighbour.

Note: These are just suggestions and not exhaustive as well. Feel free to contribute your ideas as well.

Please stay safe and be guided.

3  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Current sub-1sat/vbyte minrelayfee and historical precedent on: September 23, 2025, 08:46:26 PM
Well, I think the core relay rules does not just focus on setting fees rather they are put in place to maintain the network general health.

It was reversed because it no longer matched the real world conditions. Remember that satoshis had become more valuable so the previous rate was unnecessary high as it obstructed some legitimate transactions. Moreover, miners were already including rates below 1 sat/VB which made core developers to adjust the node policy with miners behavior.
4  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / WHY SNAKE DEY ENTER HOUSE on: September 18, 2025, 06:48:38 PM
My brothers and sisters I greet ona o. Something just enter my head today to torchlight on this matter small.

5  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Not all cookies are meant to be accepted on every websites on: September 18, 2025, 07:09:34 AM

From what i have made research on the websites cookies are know to be a small text files stored on your device's like desktop, phones, laptop's by a websites, which is allowed to tracks browser browser behaviour, preferences  and some other information, so i got learn some this from a pod cast on YouTube today so i couldn't resist sharing it because it really worth sharing, so here are throughful question that was shaped light on.

Cookies are supposed to serve as a tool to improve security and user experience unfortunately, scammers can turn it into a tool for malicious activities,  so my brother just as you have said we need to be more security conscious and know the kind cookies we accept.

- Suspicious websites Be cautious of sites with poor design, grammatical errors, or those asking for unnecessary personal information.

Even websites with great designs can also serve as threat.

To add to the list please do not autosave your password on any browser, if possible, back-up your pass by writing it down on a piece of paper and keep safe.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a primary reserve on: September 16, 2025, 03:17:23 PM
I think the down side of this would be the uncertainty in government regulations. The government can decide to impose task or restrict usage and another issue would be security concern because if the private key gets high-jacked by hackers then you loss your coin, beside bitcoin is still controversial in some sectors.

My suggestion to companies is that companies split their reserve across digital asset (Bitcoin) and physical asset such as gold. This way there will be balance.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should we be concerned big firms and countries are hodling more bitcoin? on: September 16, 2025, 05:01:28 AM
No matter how we sugar-coat it, government indirectly influence bitcoin in one way or the other since they hold it in reasonable sum and stipulated law in the society.

The idea of decentralisation is perfect but it should be noted that this cannot be 100% achieved maybe 80%. But I don't think we should be bothered by this since we are not using bitcoin for criminal activities.
8  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who is in position to feel the regret? on: September 15, 2025, 09:16:08 AM
What I am about to say is quite controversial. I normally bet two slips containing thesame game, one for a possible cash out and the other one I can leave till the end of the game. The idea is even if the game cuts at full time I will use the cash out slip to recover my stake and if the other slip goes through its a win-win situation.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Satoshi ever be back ? on: September 15, 2025, 06:55:23 AM
OP the idea is simple, people get convinced to buy your product if you are a living evidence of what that product can actually do.
So yes, keeping himself anonymous makes people trust his process in decentralisation.
10  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Point-Shaving on: September 14, 2025, 02:34:11 PM
Hi OP, everyone feels that way you are not alone. In as much as many measure have been put in place by sports authorities to combat point-shaving,  it can not be completely eliminated, so yes, it still exist.

However, what is worth noting is that this act has reduced drastically as compared to the situation before now. It is just like the way crime can not be completely eliminated in the society despite bills passed into law by the government to eliminate it.
11  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Decentralized Gambling: Promote Freedom or Promote Fraud? on: September 14, 2025, 08:20:39 AM
Both decentralised and centralised gambling comes with risk of fraud. But I think we need to weigh the risk involved.

For centralised gambling, you deposit money into the Casino's account, trusting them to pay if you win. Imagine if the company shuts down suddenly, what will happen to your funds?

For decentralised gambling on the other hand, run on a blockchain instead of being controlled by a company or a central authority. Now imagine if there is a bug in the smart contract, attackers/ hackers will exploit this and drain funds.

For me, both are risky. I will advice you choose the risk you are more comfortable with  Cool
12  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / A Proposed Modification to Bitcoin Inheritance Protocol on: September 13, 2025, 08:50:57 AM
Hello friends, I have been researching in this forum about Bitcoin inheritance protocol for a while now and I have come across different threads.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5185907.msg52497274#msg52497274
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5512560.msg64615711#msg64615711

Many of these threads only focus on time locked transaction.
Disadvantage: What if the supposed heir doesn't have a bitcoin address.

Though I am a newbie but this is my proposal and please correct me where necessary and do not underrate my opinion because of my rank. Thank you in advance!

Proposal:
What if a system is created where the holder and the heir have two different set of seed phrases. One for the holder and the other for the heir.

Criteria:
-The seed phrase of the heir cannot access the wallet/address until N years as stipulated by the holder.
- Only after N years can the heir access the wallet/address.

Question:
What if the holder is alive till N years?
Answer:
Then the holder have to login a day before N years to modify the duration.

N/B: N is an integer ranging from 1, 2, 3.......

Advantages of this proposed method:
- Only the holder can have access to this account until he/she passes away.
- Eliminates any risk of the heir harming the account holder to gain early access to the inheritance.

Again, I am not a developer, this is just my opinion to developers and the community so feel free to let me know if this makes sense.
13  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Folks that makes up the bitcoin economy on: September 09, 2025, 10:11:18 PM
Really nice, I must say this brief lecture has been helpful to me as a newbie here. But I have a question, is anyone free to mine and if so, what tools do I need for mining?
14  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: A Reminder to my fellow Nigerians to Secure Your BitcoinTalk Account on: September 08, 2025, 03:22:20 PM
Thank you for this thread. I had already implemented all you have said except one, I never knew my bitcointalk account could be hacked because I saved my password in Google password manager. Now that I know this I will quickly go ahead to delete it from my Google password manager.
15  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: 🍉🍍🍓 Naija Board । Bitcoin Fruit Carving & Decoration Contest - 2025 🍉🍍🍓 on: September 08, 2025, 12:56:05 PM
Great idea, this act really shows you take this local board to your heart and I really appreciate that.
Sad to say I can't participate right now because I'm just new here and do not meet your requirements but I look forward to participate in later events when I rank better Grin

Congrats to the winners in advance and kudos to the organiser.
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 🏆 If You're New to Crypto Here's Some Stuff I Wish Someone Told Me Early On on: September 07, 2025, 11:07:46 AM

- Learn the basics
You don’t need to become a developer, but it helps to know:
What is a wallet?
What’s the blockchain actually doing?
What is mempool?
Trust me it makes everything less intimidating
https://mempool.space/

Thank you for this thread. I have covered few of these topics you've recommended. I am actually new to this forum, although I have made threads on topics I have learnt so far including mempool. But I must confess, even though I am still learning the platform seems to be difficult for me to cope alone, I wish I could have a professional who could give answers to all my curiosity in this platform.
17  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / How to Use Escrow in a Bitcoin Trade on: September 04, 2025, 09:00:36 PM
Many people hear about escrow but don’t know how it really works. Since Bitcoin can’t be reversed once sent, escrow helps you avoid getting scammed. Here’s the simple process:

-You and the seller agree on the trade.

-Instead of sending BTC direct, you send it to an escrow wallet (Na middle man escrow be)

-The seller delivers what you paid for.

-Once you confirm, escrow releases the BTC to the seller.

If there’s a problem, escrow settles it and returns the coins to the right person.

I suggest you only use trusted escrow with reputation on Bitcointalk or known platforms like Binance P2P. always confirm the real address, and don’t pay extra release fees.

Escrow might look like an extra step, but it saves you from losing your coins. Do you guys use escrow often, or only when you don’t fully trust the other party?
18  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: Land and Bitcoin which is more profitable to go into as a Nigerian. on: September 04, 2025, 08:45:34 AM
A lot of people has always been asking this question so we are going to run a scenario so we can quickly know if land investment in Nigeria is more profitable than Bitcoin or not, so we are going to be using from 2018 to 2025 which 7 years to do this analysis.

First Scenario: ₦10 million in Bitcoin in 2018 to 2025.
In 2018, 1 BTC = $6,500.
Which was ₦2.34 million as at then, judging from the dollar value then.
So with ₦10 million, you could buy about:₦10,000,000 ÷ ₦2,340,000 = 4.27 BTC
Now in Sept 2025, 1BTC = ₦172 million.
So 4.27 BTC × ₦172m = ₦734 million today.

So investing ₦10m in Bitcoin 7 yeears ago will give you ₦734m as of today.

Second Scenario:  ₦10 million in Land Lagos.
In 2018, ₦10m could buy a plot in Lekki Phase 2 or half a plot in Ajah, Banana Island was already ₦300m–₦500m then, so ₦10m wouldn’t qualify.
By 2025, those same plots are worth:
Lekki Phase 2 plot: ₦50m–₦70m.
Ajah half-plot: ₦30m–₦40m.

So investing ₦10m in Lagos land 7 yeears ago will give you maximum of ₦70m.

hope you are seeing the gap, so it's very clear that Bitcoin is more profitable so invest wisely.

Bitcoin is very profitable, but it’s also extremely volatile. From 2018 till now it didn’t just rise smoothly and there were big crashes along the way, and not everyone had the patience to hold through them.

Land is slower but more sstable. You can’t flip it overnight like Bitcoin, but it has real value. You can build, rent, or use it as collateral. Of course, it also comes with risks like omo-onile and government issues.

So yes, in terms of returns Bitcoin wins. But for safety and predictability, land still has its place. The best strategy would be to diversify between both of them. Own some bitcoin and also own some land in strategic areas.
19  Other / Politics & Society / Re: People of Kiev, please move West, out of Kiev. on: September 03, 2025, 12:28:46 PM
The recent drone and missile attacks on Kiev (yesterday) reportedly killed at least 15 people.

If Zelensky isn't going to surrender, expect more destruction in Kiev. If Oreshnik is used by Russia, the whole city of Kiev will become a mass of burning rubble.

Move West, into little cities that Russia has no reason to attack. Stay in Kiev and risk your life and the lives of your loved ones who remain there with you.

You are free to move. In America, everybody recognizes the saying by Patrick Henry, "Give me liberty or give me death." Stay in Kiev, and it will be death. If you deside to stay, I admire your dedication (dead-ication).

Cool

War brings about loss of property
War brings about hunger
War causes depression
Most importantly, war causes loss of human lives.

My humble suggestion is that the root causes of this war should be addressed so there can stability and peace in the region again, running away can't solve the issue on ground. God bless Ukraine, God bless Russia
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: My Early Experience With Altcoins on: September 03, 2025, 11:10:23 AM
what altcoins you have?

I don’t hold too many right now. Just a bit of ETH and some smaller altcoins I’m experimenting with. I’m keeping it small because I’m still learning and don’t want to risk more than I can afford.
